WCDO Sports broadcast 19 local High School football games, featuring a total of 16 local and area varsity football programs as they competed throughout the season. Games can be followed throughout the season both on-the-air on WCDO 100.9 FM and 1490 AM, as well as online at WCDORadio.com. During the post-game of each broadcast, three separate awards are given to outstanding players. WCDO Sports would like to thank NBT Bank, The Catalog Outlet Stores, and Smith Insurance of Sidney for supporting the player of the game awards program throughout the season with the NBT Bank Outstanding Offense award, The Catalog Outlet Dynamic Defense award, and The Smith Insurance All-Purpose Player award. A total of 57 awards were given this season honoring 41 student athletes from 14 area schools.
The Sidney Warriors (6-3) had 9 athletes recognized for a total of 16 awards this season. Nate McDonald brought home a team leading 4 awards, 2 offense and 2 all-purpose. Billy Kozak had a total of 3 awards, one in each category. Jerrid Cubby and Brandon Walters were awarded twice each, Cubby for Defense, and Walters the all purpose player. Pat Vibbard and Austin McCarroll were each awarded an Offensive player of the game award . Michael Chase and Damien Zimmer each received a Defensive Player of the game award, and Austin Dean was honored as an All-Purpose Player. Congratulations to the Sidney Warriors on their season.
The Unatego Spartans (6-3) had 6 athletes recognized for a total of 9 awards this season. Tyler Butler brought home a team leading 3 awards, 2 All-purpose and 1 Offense. David VanAlstine was awarded offensive player twice. Josh Feyerabend was awarded an Offensive player, and Ethan Barber, Norman Andaya, and Derek Liner each brought home a Defensive award apiece. The Harpursville Hornets (7-2) had 6 athletes recognized for a total of 7 awards this season. Steven Lee brought home a team leading 2 awards, 1 Offense and 1 All Purpose. John Andrews was awarded an Offense player. Taylor Niles and Dylan McCaffrey were awarded Defensive player, while Mason Dean and Devon Dean each were awarded an All-Purpose player. The Bainbridge Bobcats (5-4) had 5 athletes recognized for a total of 8 awards this season. Jake Mazzarella brought home a team leading 3 awards, 2 All-Purpose and 1 Offense. Justin Cirigliano and Corbin Palmer with an Offensive award each, and Mike Nordberg and Cole Webb with a Defensive each. Congratulations to the Bainbridge Bobcats on their season.
While outside of our typical coverage, the Groton Indians figured prominently into WCDO Sports broadcasts during the final weekends of play, defeating Bainbridge-Guilford on 10/19 and Harpursville on 10/27. Three Groton players brought home a total of 4 nods for player of the game awards. Zeke Wright was awarded twice, (one in each game) one for defensive play on 10/19 and one for offensive play on 10/27. Joey Scaglione was awarded the offensive player 10/19 and Zack Didrickson the Defensive player 10/27.
Chenango Forks Blue Devils:
The Chenango Forks Blue Devils were featured in two broadcasts this season as Unatego traveled to Chenango Forks on 9/1 and Chenango Forks took on Sidney on 10/5. Three Chenango Forks athletes were awarded a total of four awards in these two games. Isaiah Zimmer won an Offense and on All Purpose Player award. Jack Sherwood was awarded a defense and Cody DeOrdio an All Purpose Player.
Other Area Schools:
A total of 9 awards were awarded in 8 other area schools. Norwich players Zan Stewart and Grant Brightman received an Offense and a Defense respectively. Offensive awards were also awarded to Dylan Guttierez of Waverly and Mike Beckwith of Greene. Defensive awards were also awarded to Devlin Farr of Newark Valley, Mike Beers of Walton, and Justin Hofer of Unadilla Valley. All Purpose Player awards went to Ben Denison of Delhi and Ryan Vergason of Tioga.
