WCDO Sports, a division of WCDO Broadcasting Inc. based in Sidney, broadcast 14 local High School Boys Basketball games, featuring a total of 11 local and area varsity basketball programs as they competed throughout the season. Games can be followed throughout the season both on-the-air on WCDO 100.9 FM and 1490 AM, as well as online at WCDORadio.com. During the post-game of each broadcast, two separate awards are given to outstanding players. WCDO Sports would like to thank NBT Bank and Mang Insurance for supporting the player of the game awards program throughout the season with the NBT Bank Outstanding Offense award, and The Mang Insurance Dynamic Defense award. A total of 28 awards were given this season honoring 17 student athletes from 7 area schools.
The Unatego Spartans are the 2012/2013 MAC Champions. The Unatego Spartans had 5 athletes recognized for a total of 12 awards this season. Quinn Barnhart led the team with 4 awards, 2 for offense and 2 for defense. Tanner Winchester won 3 offensive awards, while Phil Youngs received 2, one for offense and one for defense. Kellen Komenda received 2 defensive awards and Tyler Butler picked one up on defense as well.
The Sidney Warriors had 5 athletes recognized for a total of 10 awards this season. Damian Zimmer brought home a team leading 3 awards for Defense. Brandon Walters, Bill Kozak, and Hunter Sowersby brought home 2 awards each this season. Walters for offense, Kozak for offense, and Sowersby for defense. Joe Matzel also earned an offensive award. Congratulations to the Sidney Warriors on their season!
Other Area Schools:
A total of 5 awards were awarded in 4 other area schools. At Bainbridge-Guilford, Corbin Palmer received an offensive and Brooks Harmon a defensive player of the game. Harpursville’s Mason Dean brought home an offensive award, while Afton’s Mitch Decker received a defensive award. Unadilla Valley’s Justin Hofer also received an offensive award this season.
