A.M. NEWS WEDNESDAY 6-19-13

Emergency personnel responded to a 911 call of a possible drowning in the West Branch Delaware River, at about noon on Tuesday.  21-year-old Donald Shamus of Delhi had fallen from his capsized kayak and was swept away by the current, he was not wearing a personal floatation device.  A witness was unable to rescue Shamus, Environmental Conservation Officers located Shamus at about 1:15 Tuesday approximately ½ south of the confluence of the West Branch Delaware River and the Little Delaware Rivers, Resuscitation was performed, shamus was taken to O’Connor Hospital in Delhi where he was later declared deceased due to apparent drowning.

Chenango county sheriffs deputies arrested 35-year-old Daniel McCoy of Oxford for DWI, Operating a Motor Vehicle with a BAC of .08 or more, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle.   McCoy was stopped; he was found to be intoxicated & was taken into custody and was processed to appear in the Town of Oxford Court at a later date.

Chenango county sheriffs deputies arrested 20-year-old Caden Cruz of Oxford for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, DWI, and Unlawful Possession of a Hypodermic Needle and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance.  Deputies, Oxford Police & state police responded to a report of a vehicle driving into a field and then returning to the road. Cruz was found to be in possession of a hypodermic syringe with heroin, He was arraigned in the Village of Oxford court and remanded on $5,000.00 cash bail. He will appear in court at a later date.
