Chenango county judge Frank Revoir has rejected a request from the defense attorney for Ganesh Ramsaran of New Berlin, to hold a hearing to reconsider the amount for bail.  Judge Revoir ruled that there was no basis for a hearing currently, Ramsaran is accused of killing his wife Jennifer last December, her body was found in June in the town of Pharsalia.   Ramsaran remains held in the Chenango County jail.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate an armed robbery at the Kwik Fill convenience store on State Route 12 in the Town of Norwich Sunday evening.  The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 6 feet tall, with a medium build. He was wearing a black hoodie, light colored jeans, and dark colored sneakers, he disguised his face with a white bandana or ski mask. Deputies believe the suspect had a vehicle parked in the North Plaza.  The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who was in the area of to call at 334 2000. Students looking to become teachers through State University of New York colleges and universities will face higher admission requirements under a resolution approved by the SUNY Board of Trustees. By the 2015-16 school year, prospective teachers must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and take a high-level exam, such as the GRE, to be accepted into a teaching program at a SUNY graduate school. For undergraduate programs, a student must have graduated within the 30th percentile of their class. The change was a recommendation from the New NY Education Reform Commission, which was created by Governor Cuomo last year to recommend ways to improve the state’s education system.

The Chenango county sheriff’s department arrested 58-year-old Thomas Cohen of Plymouth, on an active Arrest Warrant for 2nd degree criminal contempt.  Cohen is accused of Violating an order of Protection issued for an unidentified victim in the town of Plymouth, he was arraigned and was remanded to the Chenango county jail on $5,000 cash bail pending an October 3rd court appearance.

State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced that 19 companies have agreed to stop writing fake online reviews for businesses and to pay more than $350,000 in penalties. “Operation Clean Turf” found that companies flooded the Internet with fake consumer reviews on websites such as Yelp, Google Local, and CitySearch, by creating fake online profiles, which violated state laws against false advertising and illegal deceptive business practices.  The CEO’s of the 19 companies have agreed to stop the practice and will pay penalties ranging from $2500 to just under $100,000.

The state labor department released unemployment statistics for local counties, with each of the tri-counties experiencing a decline in joblessness.  Chenango & Delaware counties each dropped 2/10ths to 6.4% & 7.4% respectively, Otsego county’s rate dropped 1/10th to 6.4% in august.  The statewide unemployment rate was at 7.6%

Delaware County Deputies investigated a car vs. skate boarder accident in the Town of Middletown.  42-year-old Jessica Koester of Middletown was driving on Glen Acres Road when 19-year-old Rolando Martinez of Montauk was traveling in a northerly direction on his skateboard.  Koester swerved in an attempt to avoid hitting Rolando Martinez but was unable to do so as Rolando was in the middle of the road.  Rolando was transported to Albany Medical Center by Life-Net helicopter where he was listed in serious but stable condition.
