Governor Cuomo declared a statewide state of emergency because of the major winter storm and its heavy snow, sub-zero temperatures and high winds.  A state of emergency mobilizes resources to local governments that otherwise are restricted to state and allows the Governor to suspend laws and regulations that would impede rapid response. The Governor urged New Yorkers to avoid traveling and stay inside their homes the storm passes.

The Chenango county sheriff’s department arrested a Homeless subject Christmas day for Criminal Contempt and Trespass in the Town of New Berlin.  27-year-old Eric Cole is accused trespassing at a Town of New Berlin residence and the resident had an Order of Protection against Cole.  Cole was arraigned in the Town of New Berlin Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $1,000 cash bail pending a January 8th court appearance.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on State Route 79 in the Town of Fenton for a reported Criminal Mischief. The victim reported that his ex-girlfriend had caused damage to a vehicle with a plow truck into his garage, causing damage to the vehicle and the garage. The vcitm captured the event on a home surveillance video.  The female then fled the scene, she was picked up at her residence, and has been identified as 40 year old Tracey Weiss of Chenango Forks.  Weiss was charged with 3rd degree Criminal Mischief, she was arraigned in the Town of Fenton Court and remanded to the Broome County Jail.
