The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office and Sherburne Police investigated a suspicious incident on North Main Street in the Village of Sherburne Thursday night.   The Sheriff’s Office received a report of a suspicious pipe on the sidewalk in front of a building on North Main Street, The area was cordoned off and people were evacuated.  The Endicott Police Bomb Squad responded to the scene and assisted in determining that the pipe was empty and not a threat to safety.  North Main Street was reopened and all residents were allowed to return at approximately 12:15 a.m. on March 29th.

Governor Cuomo and state leaders announced the early passage of the 2013-14 Budget, as the Assembly passed all of the budget bills yesterday in a lengthy session.  The Enacted Budget includes job-creating initiatives; new tax cuts for small businesses & middle class families, education reforms and an increase in the minimum wage to $9 per hour over the next 3 fiscal years.

State Troopers arrested 24-year-old Thomas Reeves of Port Crane for Possession of a Hypodermic Instrument. The arrest resulted from a search of Reeves’ belongings at the Deposit station while he was there for questioning on separate matter. Reeves was arraigned in the Town of Windsor Court and released on his own recognizance to appear at a later date.
