A.M. NEWS MONDAY 1-7-13

The Chenango Town Board’s rejected a proposed moratorium on natural gas development at their meeting last week.  Board members at that meeting that a moratorium would be premature since the state has not yet approved high volume hydraulic fracturing, & a moratorium could expose the town to lawsuits and interfere with economic benefits and jobs that natural gas development could bring to the town.   The town board decision came after the recommendation from the Broome County Planning Department that the proposed moratorium is denied. Meanwhile the state DEC missed a deadline to release the latest draft regulation on hydraulic fracturing in November, a decision may come early this year.

State Troopers arrested 26 year old Kari Hall of Delhi, for Driving While Intoxicated with a BAC of 0.13%. The arrest was the result of a traffic stop in Oneonta; Hall was issued an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Oneonta Court on January 8th.

State Troopers arrested 45 year old Lisa Fazio of Sayre, Pennsylvania, for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana. The arrest resulted from a traffic stop on State Route 7 in the town of Conklin; Fazio was arraigned in the Town of Conklin Court and remanded to the Broome County Jail in lieu of $250 cash bail.

This year’s January Red Cross blood drive at UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital is today, in the hospital’s Basement Conference Room 10:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.  Appointments are encouraged at 337-4028 or 337-4093. Walk-ins are also welcome.
