A Horseheads man is in critical condition after being hit by a train in the town of Union Friday night.  New York State Police say, Travis J. Cliburn, 21, of Horseheads, was walking along the Norfolk – Southern Tier Train Tracks when he was hit by a train at approximately 11:15 Friday night.  Cliburn was sent to Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City and then transferred to Upstate Medical Hospital in Syracuse. He is in critical condition.

Three stabbings sent three people to the hospital Saturday morning and police are saying that all of the cases are related.  Around 10 a.m. on Saturday in Johnson City, police arrested Abdoul Balume, 30, of Syracuse. He is charged with assault. Police said at approximately 12:30 a.m., a person who had been stabbed walked into UHS Binghamton General Hospital. The victim has since had surgery.  Two hours later, police responded to 14 Doubleday St. in Binghamton where two more stabbing victims were found. They were taken to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City where both victims had surgery.  The case remains under investigation.

A woman from Virginia has filed a lawsuit over the helicopter crash that killed her three-year-old son and four other people in Pennsylvania in July.  Crystal McKain is suing Hampton Road Charter Service in a wrongful death lawsuit. She said they negligently and recklessly allowed David Jenny to fly, even though he was not fully trained.  According to federal investigators, Jenny was not certified to fly instrument only flights. They also said he did not receive a weather briefing before taking off from Endicott.  Carl Robert, the boy’s father, was also killed in the crash. McKain is suing for more than $550,000 in damages.

President Barack Obama will visit Binghamton University Friday, Aug. 23, as part of an upstate swing to talk about affordable higher education for the middle class.  On Thursday August 22 and Friday August 23, the President will travel through New York and Pennsylvania on a two-day bus tour.  On Thursday, the President will deliver remarks at the University at Buffalo, and Henninger High School in Syracuse.  On Friday, the President will participate in a town hall event at Binghamton University, and will deliver remarks at an event at Lackawanna College in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

The Delaware County Department of Public Works has closed County Route 20 in the town of Masonville until Friday, August 23rd to replace a large culvert.  Work is expected to be completed by 3pm on Friday the 23rd.
