State Police in Norwich arrested 62 year old MICHELE KEECH of Greene for 3rd degree Arson, and Felony Aggravated Cruelty to Animals. The charges stem from an investigation after patrols responded to a report of a despondent woman at 700 State Route 206 in the Town of Greene, the Investigation revealed that KEECH had set fire to the basement of her residence, causing extensive damage and killing 33 dogs located inside. KEECH was arraigned in the Town of Coventry Court and released on her own recognizance pending future court appearances.

 

Governor Cuomo announced that the Thruway Authority has stopped plans for a 45% toll hike for large commercial vehicles.  The move follows extensive lobbying by the New York farm bureau, who argued that the massive hike would have made it too costly to transport upstate produce and other food throughout the state.

State DOT crews will be performing bridge maintenance on Interstate 81 northbound over the Chenango River, between exits 4 & 5 in Binghamton, beginning at 9 AM today.  Motorists will encounter an alternating lane closure within the work zone. Traffic delays are expected, the work is anticipated to be completed by 3:00 PM today.
