Jury selection began Monday in Broome County Court in the murder trial of Joseph Jones, who is charged with 2nd degree murder for the death of Daniel Martinez of the Bronx.  Martinez’s body was found stabbed and shot to death in a wooded area off Wilson Hill Road in the town of Chenango in October 2011.  Daniel Doherty of Binghamton is also charged with 2nd degree murder in connection with the Martinez killing.


The Chenango county sheriffs department arrested 47-year-old Mary Brown of Plymouth on an Arrest Warrant.  Brown was charged for the failure to comply with conditions or release on previous Driving While Intoxicated and Resisting arrest Charges; she was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $20,000 cash bail pending future court action.


22-year-old Taqwon Griffin, of Binghamton has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a shooting at the Country Town Apartments parking lot in Binghamton.   Griffin was arraigned in City Court and remanded to Broome County jail without bail, in connection with the shooting Clifford Harris November 13th.


The state labor department alerted new Yorkers today, that If you receive an email supposedly from the NYS Department of Labor’s Contact Center that invites you to join “Beyond the Rack,” do not respond to it.  The email may contain phone numbers that are similar to phone numbers for the department’s Contact Center, the email is a scam, and officials urge you urge you to delete it immediately without opening it.


COMMERCE CHENANGO announced that the NBT BANK ANNUAL HOLIDAY SPECTACULAR will be held at 49 South Broad Street, Norwich today.  The event runs from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, holiday shoppers can purchase items to support the Chenango County Council of the Arts, Colorscape Chenango, Made in Chenango, The Place and The SPCA, also members are encouraged to bring boxed or canned goods to benefit Roots and Wings.
