A.M. NEWS WEDNESDAY 6-5-13

The U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force executed an arrest warrant on 52 year old Jerry Hopkins, who is a registered level 2 sex offender, who had violated parole conditions.  Hopkins had been placed on the New York State 100 Most Wanted list.  Task force members searched several homes and eventually followed a lead to a wooded area off Riverside Drive in the Town of Union, where he was taken into custody without incident. Hopkins was taken directly to the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility and is being held awaiting a parole hearing.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office arrested 18 year old Xavier Montanez of Binghamton, for allegedly stealing a Pickup on March 3rd. Montanez was involved in an accident in which he had struck a house and then fled the scene.  Montanez was charged with 4th degree Grand Larceny, leaving the scene of an accident, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, Moved from lane unsafely & Speed not reasonable for conditions.  Montanez was taken into custody & was released pending further court action.

2 films offering opposing views on hydrofracking will air in Broome County on the same night tonight. The pro fracking film “FrackNation” will be shown at the Vestal American Legion Hall at 6:00 PM, while the anti fracking “Gasland 2” is being screened at West Middle School in Binghamton at 6:30 PM.
