Governor Cuomo is meeting with emergency first responders across all segments today in Albany, to unveil new initiatives to better combat future disasters like Superstorm Sandy, Tropical Storm Lee and Hurricane Irene.  Cuomo spoke this morning in Albany to the attendees to the emergency preparedness conference:

The first responders will meet throughout the afternoon to get up to speed on the new developments, new York state has been hit with extraordinary disasters in a relatives short period of time, the conference comes almost 1 year to the day of Superstorm Sandy hitting the downstate region.

State police are investigating a Sunday accident on state route 23, in which a vehicle ran into a utility pole & knocked out power for hundreds of Davenport area residents.  NYSEG reported that about 380 homes were without power over night, following the accident Sunday afternoon.  The name of the driver has not yet been released the investigation is continuing, & NYSEG crews are working to restore power as soon as possible.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office arrested Joe Vandermark following a 1-vehicle crash on Chapel Street in the Village of Windsor early Sunday Morning.  .  Deputies apprehended Vandermark a short distance away from the crash.  The investigation revealed that Vandermark’s vehicle left the roadway and struck cable guide wires, his BAC was more than 3 times the legal limit of .08 percent.  Vandermark was charged with felony DWI, felony aggravated DWI, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and driving on the shoulder of a highway, He will re-appear in Town of Windsor court at a later date.

State police at Troop C in Sidney are investigating an armed robbery at the Country Store in Stamford Saturday night.  Troopers reported that a man dressed in black & wearing a ski mask went into the store wielding a knife, and left with about $250 cash.  The suspect fled on foot, anyone with information is asked to call the state police at 561-7400.

The Guilford Town Board will be holding a special meeting on Saturday afternoon.  The Board will meet at 12:00 Noon at the Guilford town Hall at 223 Marble Road to discuss a Grant Application, the meeting is open to the public.

The New York Center for Agricultural Medicine & Health from Bassett Healthcare Network is holding a free Rural Farming Community Skin Cancer Screening on Saturday, November 2nd from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.  The screening will take place at the Covered Bridge Gardens Reception Hall, on Covered Bridge Road, Unadilla. Free skin cancer screening and flu shots will be offered, along with information about personal protective equipment.
