Former State Senate Majority Leader John Sampson of Brooklyn was taken into custody by the FBI on federal corruption charges this morning.   Sampson is accused of embezzling about $440,000 in funds involving the sale of foreclosed properties.  Sampson was charged with embezzlement, obstruction of justice and witness tampering, he is the 5th downstate lawmaker to be arrested in recent weeks; he was the leader of the state senate during the administration of Governor David Paterson.

20-year-old Connor Casabonne and 20-year-old Bryan Lemoine of Schoharie have been arrested in an investigation into two burglaries in the town of Schoharie.  Casabonne and Lemoine were each charged with 2 counts of 2nd burglary Friday by state Police, 1 of the burglarized homes is the residence of State Assemblyman Pete Lopez. Casabonne and Lemoine were arraigned & were remanded to the Schoharie County Jail on bail.

Police arrested 20-year-old Andrew Graham of Norwich for 2nd degree assault, resisting arrest and obstructing emergency medical services after allegedly biting a Norwich city police officer & hitting a firefighter who was rendering aid to him.   Graham faces arraignment today on the charges in Norwich City court.

Sidney village police arrested 33-year-old Byron Byreitter of Sidney, following the report of suspicious activity by a neighbor.  Byreitter was apprehended by Sidney police at the scene of a burglary on Colegrove, he was charged with 2nd degree burglary and attempted petty larceny, he was arraigned & was sent to the Delaware county Jail on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond, pending action in Sidney court on May 21st.

State Police at Oneonta arrested 23-year-old Natasha Jeanniton of Delhi, for Driving While Intoxicated. The arrest was the result of a traffic stop on Case Hill Road in Franklin; Jeanniton was issued tickets returnable in the Town of Franklin Court on May 9th.

The Tri Town Relay for Life at General Clinton Park in Bainbridge raised another $92,000 for the American cancer society’s local efforts.  Cancer society spokesperson Helen Gregory comments:

Binghamton City police are looking for a 25-year-old Michael Pruitt of Binghamton an arrest warrant from Binghamton City Court for third-degree criminal mischief.  Pruitt is described as white, 6 feet 1 inch tall and 170 pounds with brown hair and hazel eyes, anyone with information is asked to contact the Binghamton Police Warrant Division at 772-7044.
