A Unadilla area couple that has a service dog is looking to raise money to assist other vets in need of service dogs, with a Chinese Auction at the Unadilla Carnival of Sales on July 11th. Joshua Palmer currently has a service dog “Hampton” his wife Kristina Palmer told WCDO News what business & individual citizens can donate for the Chinese auction:

Palmer said that it currently costs about $20,000 for a service dog, the Chinese Auction drawing will begin at 4:00 PM behind the Unadilla library on July 11th.

Nascar Truck racing star Joey Coulter will be making appearances at I-88 Speedway in Afton Friday Night, as well as the Tri-County Speedway & Microd club in Triangle Saturday.   Denise Paige from I-88 Speedway explains:

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office reported that 45-year old Christine Clark was pronounced dead on arrival at Wilson Hospital, after fire fighters pulled her from a house fire Wednesday evening in the Town of Dickinson. The fire at 127 Adams Drive was called in by a neighbor at about 7:00 PM.   The cause of the fire is under investigation, firefighters from the Town of Chenango, Port Dickinson, Choconut Center and Binghamton responded.

The city of Oneonta will officially re-open the Briggs pool bathhouse in Wilber Park, with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday at 12:45 PM. The city received funding from a state office of community renewal development block grant to renovate the bathhouse, which was built in 1938. The public is invited to attend.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office arrested 25-year-old Adam Whittington of Port Crane on a charge of 3rd degree rape and criminal sexual act, following allegations that he performed sexual acts with a 16-year-old female earlier this month. Whittington was arraigned in the Town of Fenton Court and taken to the Broome County Jail without bail.

Broome County Sheriff’s department announced the swearing in of new Undersheriff Fred Akshar Wednesday. Akshar was appointed to the position following the retirement of Undersheriff Alex Minor.   Akshar began working for the Broome County Sheriff’s department as a deputy in 2002.
