State Police have identified the deceased driver from yesterday’s I-88 accident in Afton, as 31-year-old Noel Pike of Nineveh.  Investigators reported that Pike was entering I-88 from the exit 7 Afton on-ramp, when she lost control of her 2005 Suzuki XL-7, she traveled into the passing lane where she was struck broadside by a tractor trailer operated by 52 year old Gary Donovan of Johnson City.  Noel Pike was declared dead at the scene; Donovan was transported to Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City and was listed in critical condition. Police said that Passengers in the Pike vehicle were 29-year-old Rayne Pike of Nineveh, and a 4-year-old child; they were also transported to Wilson Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The investigation is continuing.

The state legislature is expected to take up Governor Cuomo’s proposal to increase the minimum wage, he discussed that issue as part of last week’s executive budget unveiling:

About a dozen states have raised the minimum wage beyond the federal level prior to New York’s lawmakers tackling the issue.

State police arrested 34-year-old Joshua Mudge of Grand Gorge for 2nd degree Assault, following an investigation into a domestic dispute.  Mudge was arraigned and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Roxbury Court on February 6th.

The Department of Corrections and Community Supervision will be holding an exam for their latest corrections recruitment effort. While the exam will be held in April, THE FILING DEADLINE FOR THIS EXAMINATION IS FEBRUARY 25th.  Applications are available online at the Department of Civil Service website at cs.ny.gov/examannouncements, or at all Department of Labor offices and New York State correctional facilities.

The State Labor Department reported that approximately 250,000 New Yorkers who sought help at one of the department’s career center locations last year, found a job through that method.    In 2012, New York’s 91 career center locations helped job seekers get jobs using technology and new job search tools to find job leads and get hired.  Job seekers can look for employment at labor.ny.gov/jobs/regional or by calling (888) 4-NYSDOL (888-469-7365).

Angels Gate animal shelter of Delhi has been padlocked, and the owner of the facility faces 22 counts of animal cruelty.  PETA began investigating Angel’s gate following an appearance by owner Susan Marion of the Oprah Winfrey show, they claimed that Marino’s claims of hospice & rehabilitation for the animals was false.  Angel’s Gate was forced to close as part of a settlement of a lawsuit involving the New York State Office of the Attorney General office regarding financial donations; Marino faces the animal cruelty charges in Delaware county court.

NBT Bank reported to day net income for the year of 2012 was 54.6 million dollars, down 5.8% from 2011.  Net income per diluted share for the year was $1.62, down from $1.71 the year before.  NBT officials reported that 2012 was a busy year, with the planned acquisition of Alliance financial corporation, Hampshire First Bank and 3 other bank branches in Greene County.
