The New York State Division of Consumer Protection is alerting the public to be aware of text messages from entities acting as financial institutions, utility companies or cell phone service providers. The text messages prompt recipients to click on a link or call a number, when consumers reply, they are prompted to share personal information like PIN or social security numbers.  Officials stated that you should never give out such information to an unsolicited caller or text message  & you should forward these messages to 7726 to have your service provider block their number from your phone. Complaints can be registered to the Federal Trade Commission at ftccomplaintassistant.gov.

The dates have been set for this year’s Delaware County “Clean Sweep”, for residents & Businesses to get rid of common household waste & chemicals.  County DPW Coordinator Sue McIntyre said that online registrations for the September event is ready to go:

The “Clean Sweep” telephone registrations will begin in early September, the days for the event itself will be September 20th & 21st.

The Tri-Town Theatre will stage a production of the Larry Shue comedy “The Foreigner” August 16th, 17th and 18th behind the Masonic Temple on Union Street in Sidney.  Theater Spokesman Rich Cuthbertson explains:

The Broome Count Sheriff’s department & State Police arrested 36 year old Misty Lawton and 23 year old Amy Ellerson on charges of conspiracy and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, for allegedly taking a used car from a Town of Union dealer & driving off without consent & returning it hours later, back on July 12th.   Deputies also charged Lawton with numerous traffic citations.   Both will appear August 13th in the Town of Union Court.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 34 year old William Crandall of Norwich for 1st degree Criminal Contempt and Aggravated Harassment. The charges stem from a domestic dispute last month,  Crandall was issued appearance tickets to return to Delhi Town Court today to address the charges.

Sidney Village Police arrested 32-year-old REBECCA HOSTETTER of Sidney on 2 counts each of 3rd degree Rape, Endangering The Welfare of a Child, and Unlawfully Dealing with A child, & 3rd degree Criminal Sexual Act.  Hostetter faces action in Sidney Village Court at a later date.

NYSEG is looking for innovative project proposals from nonresidential customers or third-party’s working with nonresidential customers.  NYSEG has up to $3,000,000 in available incentives to help pay for energy efficient projects, Each one must save at least 100,000-kilowatt hours of electricity and deliver the energy savings no later than 12 months following the contract date.  Interested parties can obtain a Request for Proposal form no later than August 16th at NYSEG.Com/UsageandSafety.
