State Senate today passed the “Caregiver Advise, Record, Enable Act” to educate and support the individuals who provide healthcare to loved ones. The legislation was co-sponsored by Senator Jim Seward:

Bainbridge area residents are invited to participate in the next “Reunite” Bainbridge meeting Monday, Bainbridge Chamber President John Payne explains:

Payne said that there are a number of projects already being discussed from the previous “Reunite Bainbridge” Meeting, including assisting with their wildlife preserve, road signage and the possibility of a “Boys & Girls Club”.

The State Department of Labor today released preliminary local area unemployment rates for March. The state’s private sector job count increased to 7,753,700, which is an all-time high, the state’s unemployment rate fell from to 5.7% in March, and the lowest level since August 2008. Locally, The Greater Binghamton area rate was at 6.3% in March down 7/10’s from March of last year.

The office of State Senator Tom Libous announced that the senator has had successful back surgery. During Senator Libous’ recovery from recent surgery to repair a detached screw in his spine, it was discovered that additional follow-up surgery was needed. That surgery took place on Monday, & Senator Libous is in contact with Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos, his Senate staff and voters in his district by phone and email. Libous will return to work in Albany when cleared by his doctor.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli announced that audits identified a total of $513 million in improper Medicaid payments and untapped revenue opportunities over a 4-year period. Auditors identified another $361 million in questionable transactions that will require further review and actions to prevent overpayments or recover costs. The state expects to transition the majority of Medicaid spending, services, and enrollees to managed care by 2016, but recent audits by DiNapoli’s office highlight the need for more effective oversight of managed care organizations

The Sidney Police Department arrested 19-year-old Michael Fairbairn of Sidney early Sunday morning for 3rd degree, Petty Larceny and Criminal Mischief; Fairbairn was arrested during a Burglary at the American Legion at 22 Union Street in the village of Sidney. Fairbairn was apprehended hiding near the scene with items taken during the burglary. Fairbairn was arraigned at Sidney Village Court and remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $10,000 cash bail. Sidney Police was assisted by State Police and Delaware County Sheriff’s Office.

Inclement weather forced the postponement of tonight’s game between the Binghamton Mets and Erie SeaWolves at NYSEG Stadium. The contest will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Tuesday, August 25th. Ticket holders for tongiht’s game can redeem them for a ticket of equal or lesser value to any future 2015 regular season home game, excluding July 4th.
