Governor Cuomo announced today in his COVID briefing, that the vaccine supply will be increased again from the federal government:

The Governor also announced that starting February 23rd, sporting events & concerts will be allowed with certain restrictions, the 1st event will be a Brooklyn Nets Basketball Game at the Barclays Center.

The State Health Department continues to see favorable numbers regarding COVID.  The state tested over 176,000 New Yorkers Tuesday with 4% positive, the lowest rate since late November, Hospitalizations continue to decrease, the number of Patients in an ICU bed went up slightly & the number of Patients on Ventilators decreased to 955, there were 136 COVID related deaths Tuesday.

Chenango County Public Health reported 19 new cases of COVID 19 today, they have 110 Active Cases, 302 in Quarantines, 25 hospitalized and a total of 2256 since the pandemic began.

City of Norwich Emergency Management Director A. Wesley Jones announced that after 26 years, he will retire from that position effective on April 20th.  Jones joined the City as the Assistant Emergency Management Officer in April of 1995 & in January 1997, he took the position he now holds.

State Police responded Tuesday Morning at about 11:30, to Interstate 88 west in the town of Bainbridge for a 2-vehicle crash involving a State Department of Transportation Plow and a garbage truck.   The westbound lanes were closed at exit 9 for several hours to remove the two vehicles.  An investigation revealed that the plow truck was in the left lane plowing the passing lane and shoulder of the roadway.  The garbage truck passed on the right and struck the snowplow wing on the passenger side.  The impact caused both vehicles to go into the median. The garbage truck was registered to Global Transportation in Iowa & was being operated by 77-year-old male from Tennessee, The DOT truck was operated by a 22-year-old male of Oxford with a 55-year-old passenger of Greene, and No injuries were reported.  The roadway reopened around 2:20 p.m.

State Police at Binghamton are searching for a missing runaway teen. 15 year old Trevor Mallory was last seen on February 2nd at 4:30 PM leaving an address on Colesville Road in the town of Colesville.  Troopers were told he got into a grey colored 4-door-sedan; the vehicle make and model are unknown.  Mallory is described as 5 foot 9 inches and 135 pounds.  He has brown hair and brown eyes, anyone with information should contact State Police at 775-1241.

Current Oneonta Mayor Gary Herzig announced the passing of Former Oneonta Mayor & Businessman Albert “Sam” Nader at the age of 101.  Nader co-owned the Oneonta Yankees Baseball team from the late 60’s until 2008 & was responsible for getting Oneonta an airport while mayor.

The Otsego County Department of Health was notified of 10 deaths related to COVID in residents of a long term care facility in January. The total deaths for 2021 are now 24; they reported 15 new COVID cases, they have 98 active cases, 17 hospitalized. Otsego now has 43 COVID deaths since early in 2020.

Delaware County Public Health reported 9 new cases of COVID 19 Tuesday; they have 96 active cases, 21 hospitalized and 225 in quarantine.  County residents can find about more about vaccinations at nyuhs.org/southerntiervax.

The Sidney Central School District has been notified that a 3rd grade student has tested positive for COVID-19. The student has not been on campus since Friday, February 5th. The Delaware County Health Department has conducted an investigation and the contact tracing has been completed. There will be no change to the instructional model at this time.

State Police closed down I-88 Near exit 9 in Sidney earlier today following a collision between a DOT Snowplow & a tractor trailer.  The crash occurred at about 11:50 this morning, both vehicles slid off the highway, there has been no report of injuries, the investigation is continuing.

The City of Oneonta and the City of Oneonta Fire Department announce the retirement of Chief Patrick Pidgeon, effective March 25th.  Chief Pidgeon joined the City of Oneonta Fire Department in 1985, and has served in a variety of positions in the department in his 36 years; he was promoted to Fire Chief in 2010.

GOVERNOR CUOMO ANNOUNCES LOWEST 7-DAY AVERAGE COVID-19 POSITIVITY RATE SINCE DECEMBER 1 as the 7-Day Average Positivity Rate Drops to 4.38%.  On Monday, 153,648 tests were conducted, with 7,866 positives, a 5.12% rate, there were 7,875 Patient Hospitalizations Statewide Monday, with 1,412 Patients in the ICU; 971 Intubated & 138 deaths were reported.

Otsego County Public Health has announced 2 more deaths attributed to COVID-19 Monday.  Otsego County has 106 active cases, they had 12 more positive cases reported Monday, and they have 14 hospitalized from the Virus.  The County Health department has had 14 deaths since January 1st, and 35 since the pandemic began in 2020.

Chenango County Public Health confirmed their 48th death attributed to COVID 19. They reported 28 hospitalized, 107 active cases & 304 quarantined.  They had 12 new positive cases to report, their total is up to 2249 since the pandemic first hit, they have had 2034 recoveries.  Chenango County Public health also reports that they received 300 total doses of the COVID vaccine this week, Distribution of vaccine will go to more 1A and 1B priority groups that have been identified by the State Health Department.

Governor Cuomo today gave a COVID 19 briefing in Albany,  he stated that the number of people allowed to have the vaccines continues to far greater that the supply the state gets each week from the federal government, but an increase is coming, and they may also shift supply from Hospitals that are failing to deliver vaccines to their staff:

Southern Tier hospitals are still among the highest in vaccinating staff.  COVID testing on Sunday was over 197,000 with just over 4% positivity rate, the lowest since late November.  Hospitalizations, Patients in ICU Beds & on Ventilators continues to trend downward, there were 114 deaths from the virus Sunday.

Chenango County Public Health reports that they are up to 2237 COVID 19 cases with 47 deaths, since the pandemic started early last year.  They have 26 hospitalized, 129 active cases & 335 quarantined.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded Saturday to a domestic dispute on State Highway 10 in the Town of Walton.   The investigation by Deputies revealed that the dispute occurred in the presence of a child, the suspect is accused of damaging the victim’s phone in an attempt to prevent contacting law enforcement assistance.   Deputies arrested 37 year-old Anthony Anastasio of Walton for criminal mischief and endangering the welfare of a child, he was arraigned virtually and was released on an appearance ticket for Walton Town Court at a later date, and a Temporary Order of Protection was issued for the victim.

2 Supermarket chains announced today that they will merge and become a bigger presence in upstate counties.  Price Chopper/ Market 32 & the Tops Supermarkets chain will merge, the company will be headquartered in Schenectady & the merger should become official in about 3 months.

Organizers of the Binghamton St. Patrick parade announced today that they will cancel the event for the 2nd year in a row.  The event was scheduled for March 6th but will be cancelled again this year due to the ongoing COVID 19 pandemic.

State Police in Troop “C” issued 672 vehicle and traffic law tickets during the Super Bowl weekend.  Police issued 218 speeding tickets, 15 safety restraint violations,   18 for the Move Over law, 10 for distracted driving, 9 for driving while intoxicated/driving while impaired, Troopers responded to 30 accidents over the weekend and responded to 314 calls for service.

State Police are investigating a fatal crash Friday night, where 50-year-old Douglas Parker of Halstead, Pennsylvania, was traveling west in the eastbound lanes, he struck a GMC SUV head-on driven by 27 year old Brooke Seidel of Windsor, her passengers were a 29-year-old male passenger and children ages 1, 3 and 4.  Seidel attempted evasive action but was struck head-on by Parker’s vehicle, she went into a guardrail, Parker’s vehicle rolled over & he was ejected.  A third vehicle was struck by debris, the driver was not injured.  Parker died at Wilson Hospital, Seidel’s passengers escaped the vehicle, she was extricated & later died at Wilson Hospital, 2 of the children suffered bleeding to the head & face.

Delaware County Public Health reported 13 new cases of COVID Saturday, & and 10 new cases Sunday, with 19 hospitalized, 244 in quarantine & 100 active cases, they have reported 39 deaths from the virus since last spring.

The State Health Department reported 250,892 COVID Tests on Friday, with 10,025 Positive results, a rate of 4%.  Patient hospitalizations were down by more than 150 to 7,649, the Number of ICU Patients was down slightly to 1,459 & the number on ventilators was down to 979, there were 143 Deaths from the virus.

It’s been a year since Nasir Azmat of Franklin was charged with 40 counts animal cruelty, for having dogs trained for illegal dog fighting housed in deplorable conditions on his property, the dogs were removed to area shelters.  Erin Insinga of the Delaware Valley Humane Society was one of those tasked with removing the dogs & getting them checked up & re-trained to be able to re-home the animals, she gave WCDO an update on the pit bulls & 1 German Shepard, known as the “Franklin 20”:

The COVID 19 pandemic shut down the ability for The Delaware County District Attorney’s office to bring the case before a Grand Jury, Azmat pleaded “not guilty” to all charges on February 27th in Franklin Town Court.

The State health Department announced that they were back over 200,000 tests Thursday, with 203,000 tested & over 8700 positive tests for a 4.31% positivity rate.  Hospitalizations went below 8000 to 7937 Thursday, the lowest level in a month, there were 1516 ICU patients & 1000 on Ventilators, there were 153 COVID deaths Thursday.

Otsego County Department of Health reported 11 new COVID cases reported today. The Department reported that the daily count of active cases has been steadily declining for the past 2 weeks, the county’s positivity rate was 1.7% Thursday & the 7 day average is 2.7%. Otsego County reported that there were 743 cases reported in January, 6% were college students, 4% were healthcare workers, 13% reside in a residential care facility and 12% are students or staff in k-12 school. There were 11 deaths related to COVID in January, 27% were nursing home residents, 18% were adult home residents, 18% were group home residents and 36% were living at home.

Chenango County Public Health reported their latest COVID 19 numbers today, they had 29 new positive cases, with 25 hospitalized, 139 active cases & 370 quarantined, there have been 1964 recoveries & over 71,600 tests performed.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office has investigated a few instances where people have shot & damaged Fiber Optic cables that County residents rely on for Internet, Television & general Information sending & receiving, Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond comments:

Sheriff DuMond said that most of the instances have occurred affected Delhi Telephone & Margaretville Telephone Companies, but the damage disrupted customers all over the county, including various emergency services, including the Sheriff’s Department.

State Police are investigating a fatal crash on State Route 13 in the town of Homer.  55 year old Michael Knickerbocker of Cincinnatus has been identified as the deceased, Police said that he was the only occupant of a Chevrolet that struck a parked U-Haul truck making deliveries and parked on the shoulder of State Route 13.  Knickerbocker was taken to an area hospital & was pronounced deceased.   2 people were in the U-Haul, A 49-year-old male was in the rear of the truck looking for a package when the vehicle was struck, he was taken to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse with head and neck pain, the 2nd delivery person was able to jump out of the way & was not injured.  The crash remains under investigation.

State Police and local law enforcement agencies across New York will be stepping up patrols to crack down on impaired driving during the Super Bowl weekend. The enforcement campaign will run today through Monday. During the recent “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign during the holiday season, law enforcement agencies issued more than 70,000 tickets for vehicle and traffic violations and made 2,067 DWI arrests.

The State Assembly Oversight, Analysis & Investigation committee may soon be looking into the controversial issue of COVID deaths in nursing home and hospitals, following Attorney General Letitia James’s report that the State Health Department undercounted the number of Nursing homes deaths, while state Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker has used the location of deaths in his statistics.  Assemblyman Joe Angelino is the ranking Republican on the Assembly Oversight Analysis & Investigation committee, and he said that the Attorney General’s report only dealt with 10% if the state’s nursing homes and more information is needed:

Also, adding to the confusion last year was where to attribute the death of a nursing home resident while in an ambulance; Assemblyman Angelino said that people just need to get the truth from their state government regarding the death of their loved ones that resided in Nursing homes.

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand will be joining the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, Senator Gillibrand’s has also served on the Senate Armed Services Committee, she will also remain on the Agriculture Committee, & the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging. 

The State Health Department announced Wednesday’s COVID 19 statistics today.  Over 169,000 Tests were conducted statewide, with over 7400 positives, a rate of 3.38%. Patient Hospitalizations went down by 115 to 7,967, the number of ICU patients was still around 1500, and the number of ventilators went down by 17 to 986.  There were 135 COVID deaths Wednesday.

Chenango County Public Health reported 2 more deaths from COVID today, bringing their total to 47.  Chenango County reports 24 hospitalizations, 138 active cases & 378 quarantines.  They have had 2146 confirmed cases since the pandemic started, with 1931 Total Recoveries.

State Police are searching for 33 year old Carlos Smith, Formerly of Davenport, after troopers discovered Deceased dogs & Puppies in a crat outside his residence in December.  Smith is accused of failing to provide sustenance & proper care to the dogs; he is described as a Black male, 5’9″ tall, about 130 pounds with black & Brown Hair & brown Eyes.  Anyone with information should contact the state police at 432-3211 or crimetip@troopers.ny.gov.

 A state judge has ordered New York’s Department of Health to release records about nursing home residents who died of COVID-19 in hospitals; the order comes just a week after a report by Attorney General Letitia James’ office showed nursing home deaths in the state could have been under-counted by as much as 50%.  State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker has categorized deaths by location, so if a nursing home resident died in a hospital, it was listed as a hospital death.

State Police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect wanted for a break-in at the Balsam Inn in the town of Pharsalia.  Surveillance video captured the male subject who is a heavier set, older white male wearing a grey long sleeve shirt, a hat and jeans.  He’s accused of breaking into the business on November 26th and taking neon signs, bar lights, a table and bar stools.  He is also caught on camera destroying several items, including ripping a camera off the wall; anyone with information should call Troop C in Sidney at 561-7400.

Governor Cuomo announced that the federal vaccine supply will increase another 20% from the federal government over the next 3 weeks. Private Pharmacies Will Receive an Additional 10% Directly from the Federal Government to Supplement the Doses Allocated to Them by the State. Chenango County Public Health released their latest COVID-19 Numbers today; they had 14 positives cases, bringing their total to 2133. They report 23 hospitalized, 137 active cases & 402 quarantined, they have had 1914 recoveries & have conducted over 70,000 tests.

The State Department of Labor has identified over 425,000 fraudulent unemployment benefit claims during the COVID-19 pandemic, preventing the theft $5.5 billion. The Department has referred thousands of fraud cases to federal prosecutors, and continues to investigate with law enforcement on the federal, state, and local level. Since the pandemic began, the Department of Labor has paid over $65 billion to more than 4 million New Yorkers – representing more than 30 typical years’ worth of benefits paid in just 11 months.

People over the age of 65 can call their health care provider or local pharmacies for information on vaccine availability. Governor Cuomo announced that an increase in Vaccines will be coming to the state shortly, following confirmation from the Biden Administration today:

The state was getting up to 300,000 vaccines, with 7.1 million New Yorkers eligible to get vaccinated. The state Health Department reported that in spite of Monday’s snow, over 150,000 people were tested for COVID with 5.47% testing positive.  There were still just over 8000 hospitalized, 1500 in an ICU bed & 1004 on Ventilators; there were 146 deaths from the virus Monday.

There has been another delay in finding out who actually won the 22nd Congressional District between recent incumbent Democrat Anthony Brindisi, and the previous Congressional representative, Republican Claudia Tenney.  State Supreme Court Justice Scott Delconte ordered all counties involved in the race to certify their votes this week, however there were problems with Oneida County, yesterday, Brindisi filed a motion for a new recount following differences in vote counts throughout the process since Election Day.

Local government sales tax collections declined by 10 percent overall in 2020, or $1.8 billion, compared to the previous year, according to a report issued today by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. This decline was steeper than the drop during the Great Recession, when local sales tax collections fell 6 percent statewide in 2009 compared to 2008.  DiNapoli’s report also found that County sales tax collections decreased by 0.9 percent outside of New York City, Delaware County had the largest year-over-year increase at 10.7%, followed by Oswego at 10.5% and Westchester at 9.8%.

Residents in the Village of Bainbridge have until the end of the businesses day Wednesday to give Public Comment on the Village Police Department Reform proposal, Bainbridge Mayor Phil Wade told WCDO News that it was largely a successful 7 positive project:

Chenango County Public Health reported 9 new cases of COVID 19 today, with 147 active cases, 449 quarantined & 21 hospitalized.  They also reported that they received 200 doses of the COVID Vaccine this week; they have administered over 800 doses so far.  County residents should go to the state “Am I Eligible App or go to the am-i-eligible.COVID19vaccine.health.ny.gov website.

Otsego County Health Department reported 1 new death from COVID 19, 12 new cases were reported Monday, and they have 146 active cases & 14 hospitalized.  Otsego County has had 742 new cases since the beginning of the year with 10 deaths; most of those cases have been attributed to holiday social gatherings.

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced legislation that would invest billions in public school infrastructure and help cash-strapped school districts safely reopen under CDC guidelines. Gillibrand explained during a ZOOM press conference this afternoon:

The Reopen and Rebuild America’s Schools Act of 2021 would invest more than $100 billion in grant funding to schools with facilities that pose health and safety risks to students and staff, allocate funding for updates to combat the spread of COVID-19, and expand access to reliable, high-speed broadband to continue digital learning.

Delaware County Public Health reported only 4 positive COVID tests Monday out of 197 tested, for about 2% positivity rate.  The County reports 18 hospitalized, 246 quarantined & 101 total active cases.

New York State has had 24 straight days where their rolling average of COVID positivity rates has declined, yesterday’s rate was 4.8%, Governor Cuomo commented during today’s briefing that New Yorkers have to be patient regarding waiting for their vaccines and continue to practice social distancing & mask wearing due to the unknown possibilities with the COVID 19 variants:

The state had 8,003 Patient Hospitalizations Statewide with 1500 Patients in the ICU; 987 Intubated on ventilators and 141 COVID-19 Deaths in New York State Sunday, COVID Vaccines administered so far were up to 1.69 Million.

Chenango County Public Health reported 6 additional Chenango County deaths attributed to COVID-19. Chenango County Public Health reports 165 Active Cases, 472 Active Quarantines, 22 are hospitalized and they report a Total number of COVID cases is up to 2110, with 1762 recoveries & 45 deaths.

Effective March 15th, marriage receptions in New York State can be held under limited state guidelines. Events must be approved by the local health department and there will be testing of all guests before an event. Capacity at weddings and receptions will be limited to no more than 150 people or no more than 50 percent of the venue’s capacity, whichever is lower.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a neighbor dispute in the Town of Walton.  63 year old John DiMartini of Walton is accused of making threatening statements against the victim, who requested for a criminal summons from Town of Walton Court.   Deputies had received a copy of the summons last Thursday, DiMartini was charged with harassment & will appear in the Town of Walton Court on a later date.

Delaware County Public Health reported 5 new COVID cases Friday & 13 new COVID cases Saturday & 11 on Sunday, with 17 hospitalized, 256 quarantined & 114 active cases.  Delaware County reports a 7 day Rolling average of 4.9% positivity for COVID testing.

Otsego County Department of Health received the 1st two shipments of vaccines in early January 4th, with 700 doses for 1b population.  Otsego County Health Department officials were ordered NOT to vaccinate the 65+ population, however last week; they received a ONE time allotment of 200 doses for 65+ populations. Last Friday they received an additional 100 doses for the 1b eligible workers, and they have now vaccinated 870 individuals with 130 doses on hand.  They do NOT expect to receive any further allotments for the 65+ population; the state is working with pharmacies to vaccinate that population. More information will be posted on the Otsego County Health Department website.

The Sidney Central School District has been notified that one 9th grade student has tested positive for COVID-19. The student has not been on campus since Wednesday, January 27th. The Delaware County Health Department has conducted an investigation and the contact tracing has been completed. There will be no change to the instructional model at this time.

Delaware County Sheriff Deputies responded to a report of a domestic dispute in the Town of Delhi, 20 year old Noah Shambaugh of Hobart is accused of violating an order of protection issued by the Town of Delhi Court, by visiting the protected person’s residence, & threatening and harassing the protected party.  Deputies charged Shambaugh with criminal contempt; he was processed and released on an appearance ticket directing him to appear in the Town of Delhi Court on a later date.

The State Health Department announced that the state positivity rate has been declining for 23 straight days, down to 4.4% on Saturday.  Hospitalization went under 8,000, there were 1,534 Patients in the ICU; 1,008 Intubated on ventilators, there were 138 COVID-19 Deaths in New York State Saturday.
