Governor Cuomo gave his Daily Coronavirus update in Albany this morning, he said he is concerned that protestors may be neglecting Social Distancing guidelines while protesting & may be putting themselves & others at risk;

Governor Cuomo also announced that outdoor dining at restaurants will be permitted in phase 2 of reopening starting tomorrow.  Outdoor tables must be spaced 6 feet apart, all staff must wear face coverings and customers must also wear face coverings when not seated.

The State Health Department announced that the number of Hospitalizations from the Coronavirus is trending down to close to 3000 statewide, the number of Deaths Tuesday was 49, the state death toll during this pandemic is 24,079, and the total number of cases is over 374,000.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Department arrested 32 year old Joshua Donnelly of New Lisbon for Criminal Obstruction of breathing or blood circulation & 5th degree Arson.  Law Enforcement was dispatched to the report of a domestic dispute at a residence in New Lisbon, Donnelly is accused of assaulting a female at the Residence & attempting to set it on fire before fleeing the scene, he later returned to the scene & officers returned & found Donnelly hiding in the residence, he was taken into custody, he was arraigned; released 7 will appear in court at a later date to answer to the charges.

Hospice & Palliative Care of Chenango County is offering a “Working through Grief” virtual workshop Thursday at 5:30 PM for anyone in the area communities working through grief at this particularly tough time with the Coronavirus Pandemic, the presentation will be held remotely by grief counselor Rachel Barletta, Hospice Operations Manager Lindsey O’Donnell explains:

Chenango County Public Health updated their statistics today regarding the Coronavirus.  They have had a total of 133 positive cases, with 5 deaths, 93 recoveries, 1 person is hospitalized, 104 are quarantined, and they have conducted over 4600 tests.

Delaware County is reporting 2 new cases of COVID-19 and no additional recoveries. The known active cases in the County as of today are 8. To date there have been 75 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19, with 22 people under quarantine, 2 of the confirmed active cases are in the hospital, 6 are isolated at home, 4 people have died and 63 have fully recovered.

Otsego County Department of Health now reports 67 total confirmed cases of COVID 19, there are no patients hospitalized, 58 have recovered, there were 5 deaths, 16 people are quarantined, and 291 people have been released from quarantine.

The Sidney United Way is offering free personal pandemic safety kits to area small business owners to distribute to their employees as they reopen. Each kit includes several masks, a pair of gloves, hand sanitizer, soap and tissues. Business owners may pick up one kit for each employee plus a bottle of hand sanitizer on Thursday or Friday, at SFCU in Sidney between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm, SFCU in Bainbridge between 10:00 and 4:00, in Afton at the RINKER INSURANCE AGENCY between 9:00 am and 3:30 pm & in Unadilla at HOUSE OF CONSIGNMENT between 10:00 and 4:00.  These items are being made available through the Sidney Area COVID-19 Relief Fund.

Governor Cuomo said that he didn’t envision a need to send State Police or the National Guard to New York City, which has a police force of 38,000 currently.

The State Health Department reports over 1300 new coronavirus cases in Hospitals across the state Monday, bringing the state total since March of 373,040.  Another 58 died from the Virus Monday, bringing the state death toll to 24,023.

The State Health Department continues to double check the discrepancies of Coronavirus deaths attributed to both Nursing homes & Hospitals.  Early in the Pandemic, officials have learned that a Nursing home could send a positive patient to a hospital, where they later died, the hospitals would list the death among their reporting to the State, and the Nursing home, which was the patient’s legal address, would also report that death to the state.  The investigation by the Health Department is ongoing.

Governor Cuomo announced today that Summer Day Camps Can Reopen on June 29th, a decision on sleep away summer camps has not yet been reached, plans will have to be drawn up to provide for social distancing in the sleeping areas as well as during various camp activities.

The Broome County Health department reports 557 total coronavirus cases today, with 44 deaths. 407 recoveries & 369 patients are being monitored.  They have conducted over 13,000 tests since early March.

The Broome County Agricultural Society announced today that they have decided to cancel the 2020 Broome County Fair.   The Board of Directors aims to resume the Broome County Fair, July 27 to August 1, 2021.

A report released by New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli found 50% of the contracts in 2019 between Not-for-Profit organizations and the state were not processed until after the contract start date. DiNapoli’s report showed that  50% were processed after their start or renewal dates, he recommends that State agencies make prompt contracting a priority, The Not-for-Profit Contracting Advisory Committee should meet regularly & that State agencies should use electronic means to pay promptly & pay any interest due with the first payment to avoid cash flow problems.

Governor Cuomo announced that New York dentists can reopen statewide today. Dentists’ offices will be subject to state guidance on best practices for safety and social distancing. The number of Coronavirus cases statewide is over 370,000, about 3500 are hospitalized, the state death toll is 23, 905.

Binghamton Fire Fighters responded overnight to a fire at Recreation Park.  Officials with the Binghamton Fire Department reported that the fire started around 12:45 AM & destroyed the entire playground.  The investigation is continuing.

State Senator Fred Akshar will be taking his Town Hall Meetings online for the 52nd Senate District through Zoom.  Residents who would like to participate in the virtual town hall meetings are asked to register at Akshar.NYSenate.Gov. Governor Cuomo signed into law a new measure providing death benefits to the families of frontline workers who lost their lives fighting Coronavirus in New York. The bill establishes a COVID-19 death benefit for the families of state and local government employees who have been on the front lines of this public health emergency.

The State Health Department announced that the number of Coronavirus cases statewide went up to 368,284. Hospitalizations dipped below 4000 for the first time in weeks, the number of deaths Thursday was 67, giving the state a death toll from the virus of 23,780.

Broome County Health Department reported that they were up to 546 total coronavirus cases, they now have had 43 deaths, 362 recoveries & 415 patients are being monitored by the Health Department.

Early Thursday morning the Sidney Police Department assisted Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies with the arrest of a Walton woman on a Warrant of Arrest issued by the Delaware County Court for violation of probation.   33 year-old Nikita Kingsbury was charged with violating the terms of her probation imposed in December as a result of her conviction for criminal possession of a controlled substance.  Kingsbury was arrested September 5, 2019, along with several others at for trafficking methamphetamine from 37 Union Street in Sidney.   Sidney Police located and arrested Kingsbury, she was turned over to Sheriff’s Deputies, she was arraigned remotely by Delaware County Court & was ordered held in the Delaware County Correctional Facility without bail pending further court action.

The Chenango County Department of Public Works announced that Effective June 1st, the Brisben and North Norwich Transfer Facilities will both be Open normal hours: Monday 8AM to 12PM, Tuesday through Saturday 8AM to 4PM.  The Landfill in the Town of Pharsalia will be Open normal hours: Monday through Friday from 8AM to 4PM to Residents and Haulers.  Saturday the landfill will be open from 8AM to 12PM for residential garbage only.   More information is available at 337-1792.

Governor Cuomo Held his Daily Briefing in Brooklyn today, he announced that he will sign an executive order for retail business owners, allowing them to keep people without masks out of their establishments:

Governor Cuomo said that the total Hospitalizations statewide was about 4000 patients for the Coronavirus, there were 74 more deaths Wednesday,  bringing the state death toll to 23,722,  there are 366, 733 positive coronavirus tests in the state since early March.

Purdue farms of the state of Maryland is the latest business to sue Maines Paper & Food Service of Conklin for breach of Contract, for allegedly failing to pay for 1.4 Million dollars in food deliveries earlier this year, on top of another $4 million dollars in overdue payments from previous invoices.  Maines is facing similar action from 6 other companies that have been filed in US District Court.  Maines recently closed down their “Broadline” operations in Conklin & laid of hundreds of employees.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 47 year-old Lionel Simard of Davenport for possession of stolen property, he is accused of possessing license plates that were reported stolen from a parked vehicle in the Town of Davenport on May 21st.  Simard was issued an appearance ticket in the Town of Davenport Court at a later date.

State Police, Sherburne Police & several other agencies, responded to a report of a person in the Chenango River that went underwater and had not resurfaced in Sherburne.  The New York State Underwater Recovery Team and divers and an air boat from the Chenango County Bureau of Fire searched the river, Shortly after 8:00 p.m., the victim was located & was pronounced deceased at the scene & has been identified as The victim is identified as 18-year-old Nicholas Russell of Smyrna.  Police said that Russell and 3 friends were swimming in the Chenango River when he began to have difficulty staying above water.  A witness attempted to assist Russell but he went under water and never re-surfaced.

State Department of Labor released local unemployment rates for April.  The number of private sector jobs in the State was 6,467,600, the State’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased from 4.1% to 14.5%.  Locally, Chenango County’s Unemployment rate was 11.7%, Delaware County 12.4% & Otsego County was 12%.

State Police responded to a residence on Spruce Street in the Village of Roxbury for a serious injury.   An investigation revealed that a 36-year-old male was slashed in the midsection with a knife.  The male was transported by LifeNet to Albany Med where he is in critical condition.  Several people that were in the residence are being interviewed and cooperating with State Police, There is no threat to the public. The investigation is ongoing and more will be released as it is available.

State Police issued more than 8,900 tickets during a special traffic enforcement period over Memorial Day Weekend, which started last Friday, through 3:00 AM Tuesday.  During this enforcement period, State Troopers arrested 203 people for DWI, and investigated 457 crashes, which injured 11 people. State Police responded to two fatal crashes during the weekend.

To date there have been 73 confirmed positive cases,  with 30 people under quarantine, 5 cases are receiving care in the hospital, 8 are isolated at home, 4 people have died and 56 have fully recovered.

Otsego County Department of Health announced 2 more positive Coronavirus cases, bringing them to 65 total cases.  Both new cases were asymptomatic both worked in nursing homes outside of Otsego County.  All Nursing home workers are tested for the Coronavirus twice a week in New York State.

Governor Cuomo travelled to Washington DC today to meet with President Trump, to try to get money to the states struggling with the deficits they incurred by battling the coronavirus pandemic, he said he spoke with the President about the need for finally starting much needed infrastructure projects to jump start the economy again:

The Governor said that the state is looking at a 61 Billion dollar deficit over the next 4 years & without Federal aid, there will be 20% cuts in education, police departments, fire departments & hospitals.  The US House has passed the Americans First Bill with State aid; The Senate has not acted on it.

The Broome County Health Department reports an increase in Croronavirus cases and deaths today.  527 Positive cases have been reported, there are now 41 deaths, 341 recoveries and 426 are being monitored for the Virs by the Health Department.

The Otsego County Department of Health Announced today that the free rabies clinics for the month of June have been cancelled, any updates or charges in the future regarding the rabies clinics will be posted on the Otsego County Health Department website.

The Afton Fair Board has announced that this year’s Afton fair has been cancelled, and they plan to hold the next fair in 2021.  The 2020 Afton Fair was originally scheduled for July 9 to July 12.

The State Board of Elections reminds all state residents that the deadline to register to vote for the June 23rd Primaries is this Friday. Mail-in voter registration forms must be postmarked by midnight, May 29th; New Yorkers wanting to register in-person may do so at their county boards of elections, but must do so no later than this Friday.  Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, mail in registration is recommended.    The voter registration form can be downloaded from ELECTIONS.NY.GOV or through your account with the State Department of Motor Vehicles website.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 38-year-old Joseph Navas of Davenport on May 19th for attempted assault, menacing, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration.  Deputies responded to a report of a domestic dispute in progress involving a male subject threatening others with a knife, Upon arrival Deputies learned that Navas allegedly bit a victim & threatened a number of people with a knife.  Navas was issued a temporary order of protection and, & was released on appearance tickets for the Town of Davenport on a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance in their investigation of recent vandalism to the historic Hamden Covered Bridge. On May 21st, a local resident reported discovering new graffiti spray painted on the interior of the wooden covered bridge and area road signage, the names “Jake” and “Dylan” were spray painted inside the bridge,   Delaware County DPW employees have removed the paint from the road signage, and began attempting to remove the spray paint from the rough cut lumber of the bridge.  Deputies are asking anyone with information, to call 832-5555, or toll-free (888) 914-9111.

The State Health Department today announced that 73 people died Monday from the Coronavirus, bringing the state death toll to 23,564, Hospitalizations were down to 4200 statewide, the total number of Coronavirus cases is up to 363,836.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 27 year old Dylan Katen of Windsor for possession and use of a credit card that was stolen during a burglary of a Town of Sanford residence in 2019.  Broome County Sheriff’s Office Detectives learned the stolen credit card was utilized at a Deposit convenience store in December, they requested assistance from the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division.  The joint investigation led to Katen’s arrest, for 1 count of criminal possession of stolen property & petit larceny, he was arraigned by teleconference Friday night & was released on appearance tickets for Deposit Town Court on a later date.

The Broome County Health Department continues to see an increase in the number of Coronavirus case, they are now up to 513 positives, with 35 deaths, 341 recoveries & 361 are being monitored by the Health Department.

Chenango County Public Health is reporting 119 total positive cases of the coronavirus today, there are 50 people in quarantine, 1 person is hospitalized, there have been 5 deaths and 87 recoveries, and they have performed 3041 tests.

On Memorial Day there was no General Clinton Canoe Regatta but several locals decided that they would start at Otsego Lake and do the 70 mile course anyway; Duke Fisher was one of the organizers & Participants:

Fisher said that they echoed the time of the original paddlers from the early 60’s, finishing the course in 11 to 12 hours.

The State Health Department reported well over 362,764 coronavirus cases, the state death toll is over 23,488 since early March.

Delaware County is reporting no new cases of COVID-19 and 1 additional recovery. The known active cases in the County is now 12.  To date there have been 72 confirmed positive cases, with 26 people under quarantine,  5 are in the hospital, 7 are isolated at home, 4 people have died and 56 have fully recovered.

Otsego County Department of Health has received notification of 1 new confirmed positive coronavirus case Saturday, this patient did not attend the Unadilla Livestock auction May 16th.  The county has 63 total confirmed cases, none one is hospitalized currently, 57 have recovered, there have been 5 deaths, and 13 people are quarantined

The Otsego County Department of Health & the Susquehanna SPCA will continue to hold free weekly rabies vaccination clinics on-site for the foreseeable future.  The shelter is scheduling vaccination appointments for dogs, cats, and ferrets on Wednesday afternoons from 1-3 p.m. and on Thursday mornings from 9-11 a.m. Individual appointments allow for proper social distancing.  Registration is available by calling 547-8111, extension 108.  More information is available at sqspca.org.

Governor Cuomo is alerting New Yorkers they may receive a phone call where the Caller ID may say “NYS Contact Tracing” and they need to answer that call:

Governor Cuomo said that the state has added enough tracers through the help of foundations from former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg; most of the state has now been able to re-open as they have enough tracers to follow up on contacts of those who have been tested positive for the Coronavirus.

The Otsego County Department of Health has learned of a potential exposure to coronavirus at a public venue & they are now seeking to identify and notify individuals who attended a livestock auction at Unadilla Livestock 38 Maple Avenue in Unadilla on Saturday May 16th.   Otsego County Assistant Public Health Director Kim Schlosser told WCDO News that the auction was agricultural and was allowed to be open in Phase 1 of the Reopening:

Schlosser said that an individual who lives in another county attended the auction from 1:30-9:30pm has since been confirmed to have COVID 19 & that individual was not wearing a mask.  Anyone who attended the auction, who develops symptoms, should contact their primary care provider, or the COVID Hotline at 547-5555 or the Otsego County Health Department at 547-4316 to get tested, also, if attendees know someone who attended the auction in the Amish community, to inform them of positive test & self-monitor for symptoms of the illness.

The State Health Department announced Friday that they are reporting over 358,000 coronavirus cases, with another 1696 positives discovered Thursday.  109 people died from the virus Thursday , bringing the state death toll to 23,195 since early March.

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation will open 16 beaches across the state for swimming today with lifeguards staffed at normal levels to ensure public safety. Beach-goers are reminded to practice social distancing, State Parks will limit parking and other means of entry to keep capacity at 50% or less,   Locally Glimmerglass State Park & Chenango Valley state park will be open from 11:00 Am to 7:00 PM over the Memorial Day Weekend, More information is available at parks.ny.gov/covid19.

Chenango County Public Health announced their Coronavirus statistics, they announced a 5th death, there is 1 person in a Hospital, 33 are quarantined, there are 118 total cases & 86 recoveries, they have performed 2236 tests.

The Broome County Health Department announced that they were up to 468 positive Coronavirus cases Friday, with 32 deaths, 331 recoveries & 237 are being monitored by the Health Department.  They have conducted just under 9000 tests so far.

According to the preliminary results from the U.S. Department of Labor’s business and household surveys for April 2020, the number of private sector jobs in New York State decreased over the month by 1,764,600, or 21.4 percent, to 6,467,600. This was the state’s largest monthly employment drop on record. Just under one-third of the monthly jobs decline occurred in leisure and hospitality, mostly in accommodation and food services.  In April 2020, New York State’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased from 4.1% to 14.5%, the largest recorded monthly increase since current record keeping began in 1976.

State Police will increase patrols to combat drunk, impaired and reckless driving throughout this Memorial Day weekend. The STOP-DWI enforcement period starts on Friday, May 22, and runs through Tuesday, May 26. State Police and our local law enforcement partners will be out in force to remove impaired and reckless drivers from our highways.  On Memorial Day weekend in 2019, Troopers arrested 225 people for drinking and driving, issued 13,693 total tickets, and investigated 134 personal injury crashes, which resulted in four fatalities. ?In addition to the New York State Police, numerous counties and agencies throughout the state also participate in the annual Memorial Day Crackdown.

Delaware County Public Health received 3 positive lab reports for COVID-19 Thursday, the total is now up to 68 positive cases, 54 have recovered, 7 are isolating at home, 3 are hospitalized, 4 are deceased & 17 are quarantined.

Congressman Antonio Delgado announced the award of nearly $100,000 in federal funding through U.S. Department of Transportation & the Federal Aviation Administration. Delgado announced $69,000 for Columbia County Airport in Hudson and $30,000 for Sidney Municipal Airport in Delaware County.
