Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 27-year-old Shakeem Enang of the Bronx on a sealed indictment warrant following a grand jury proceeding involving the sale of HEROIN in Stamford. Deputies located Enang in a bathroom inside a residence, where he allegedly attempted to flush HEROIN and COCAINE down a toilet. Enang was charged with 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled substance & 1 count of Tampering with physical evidence. Investigators seized 80 wax bags of heroin, 2 grams of Cocaine and $668 cash. Enang was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail pending future court action.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 36-year-old Paul Somers of Tompkins for Felony Criminal Mischief. Somers is accused of allowing his cattle to enter on a neighbors land & causing damage in excess of $250. Somers was released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Tompkins Court on December 21st.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 25 year old Jerry Parkes of Missouri on a Fugitive from Justice Complaint following an anonymous made to Otsego County 911. Parkes allegedly fled Missouri, where he was wanted for Domestic Assault & Felony manufacturing marijuana and synthetic marijuana. Parkes was arraigned and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail without bail pending extradition back to Missouri.

The Otsego County Health Department has reported that the Oneonta School district has 6 cases of Pertussis, also know as Whooping cough. Parents of students at the Oneonta School have been notified, Pertussis is highly contagious & is usually accompanied by fever, a runny nose & a harsh cough.

Oneonta Police arrested A Milford man for 2nd degree Assault, criminal possession of a weapon & criminal Tampering. 23-year-old Michael VanDeusen was charged following a fight in Oneonta on November 18th, where an unidentified man from Mount Vision suffered a non-life threatening stab wound. VanDeusen was arraigned; he faces action in Oneonta City Court in January.

The Afton Central School District has appointed Timothy McNamara as the new Superintendent of Schools. McNamara has accepted the position; the Afton School board is expected to act on McNamara’s appointment at their meeting this evening.

Governor Cuomo announced nearly $6.5 million in grants to 55 state-approved anti-sexual assault crisis and prevention programs operated by hospitals, non-profit organizations and governmental agencies statewide. The grants will help fund local crisis hotlines and direct services for sexual assault victims, such as crisis counseling, advocacy and trauma therapy, and support prevention and education in schools, on college campuses and in communities. NY State of Health announced enrollment in Qualified Health Plans and the Essential Plan have reached nearly 900,000, outpacing last year by 13%. Open Enrollment in a Qualified Health Plans continues through January 31st, but consumers need to enroll by December 15th, 2017 for coverage beginning January 1st, 2018. Environmental Advocates of New York released an update to its 2016 report Tapped Out: New York’s Clean Water in Peril. The new analysis published by the DEC as required by the Sewage Pollution Right to Know Act, shows that from May 2013 to July 2017, a total of 10,687 overflows were reported, translating into over 3.8 billion gallons of sewage being discharged into waterways. Statistics indicates more work is needed to help municipalities fully comply with the Act and more funding is needed for municipalities to address aging infrastructure.

Governor Cuomo today announced $2 million is available through round 3 of the Climate Resilient Farming grant program to help farms reduce their operational impact on the environment and better prepare for, and recover quickly from severe weather events. $2.9 million has been provided to 37 farms across the State to implement critical projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote energy savings, mitigate water and soil quality concerns, and increase on-farm resiliency to climate change. The Request for Proposals for the grant program is located under Funding Opportunities at agriculture.ny.gov; Proposals are due by February 26, 2018.

A name change is coming to Tri Town Regional Hospital in Sidney, as the facility is required to have its Emergency Department within 35 miles of an acute care Emergency room, as provided by Fox Hospital in Oneonta. Fox CEO Jeff Joyner explains:

Delaware County Sheriff-Elect Craig DuMond announces the selection of long-time Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Timothy Buckley to be the Undersheriff. Buckley began his career as a police officer with the Village of Hancock Police Department in 1996; in 1998 he served as a Sheriff’s Deputy and a School Resource Officer with the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office before transferring to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office in 2000.

New York State hunters have been more successful in 2017 than last year through the first several weeks of big game seasons, according to the state DEC. Through the 3rd weekend hunters reported 69,550 deer, compared to 61,184 through the same period in 2016. Hunters have reported taking 814 bears so far in the Southern Zone, compared to 775 last year. A final tally of the seasons’ deer and bear harvests will be compiled and released early in 2018.

State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman released an updated Brochure “Sexual Harassment in the Workplace: Know Your Rights”; to inform New Yorkers sexual harassment laws. New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is leading a coalition of 15 state Attorneys General, they filed a lawsuit against the EPA and EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt for failing to meet the Clean Air Act’s statutory deadline for designating areas of the country impacted by unhealthy levels of ground-level ozone pollution. The lawsuit, was filed jointly by the Attorneys General of New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Washington DC & 10 other states Tuesday.

The Oneonta Police Department is investigating the death of State University student Daniel Michaels of Dix Hills Saturday, preliminary reports suggest that a combination of drugs & alcohol led to a cardiac arrest, which led to the death the 18-year-old. Michaels was found passed out at a fraternity at 34 Academy Street in Oneonta early Saturday, he was taken to Fox Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. The full toxicology report is not expected for another 4 weeks, the investigation is ongoing. State University of Oneonta announced that they are offering additional counseling services to students affected by the Michael’s death.

Tri Town Regional Hospital in Sidney will have a new name as of January 1st, following the recent decision to have the hospital affiliated with Fox Hospital in Oneonta, rather than Bassett hospital in Cooperstown. State regulations stipulate that a satellite emergency department must be within 35 miles of an acute care facility, Fox is about 23 miles from the Sidney facility. The new name will be A.O. Fox Hospital- Tri Town Regional Campus; services that are available will be unchanged with the new name.

New York Farm Bureau & the Food Bank Association of New York State announced that New York farmers donated 9 million pounds of fresh food and farm products this year through the month of November. 7 million meals were provided to New Yorkers in need, and with less than a month to go in 2017, the number is expected to climb even more during the holiday season.

NYSEG reported that 1,193 customers without power in Delaware County, due to a utility pole that caught fire in Delancey this morning. Governor Cuomo announced the 76West Clean Energy Competition is now accepting applications from clean energy companies for its 3rd round of funding. 76West is part of the “Southern Tier Soaring,” strategy to generate economic development & NYSERDA administers the 76West Competition, which will accept applications through April 16th. 20 finalists will be selected and brought to the Southern Tier next spring to meet with prospective local partners, industry leaders, potential sources of funding, and other resources within the region. 6 winners will receive a total of $2.5 million in prizes; the Winners will be announced later next year.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 37-year-old Timothy Heady of Smyrna, fur unlawful manufacture of Methamphetamines. Heady was arrested as deputies were conducting a follow up in reference to a burglary in the area; Deputies were then assisted by the State Police Crime Scene Contamination Unit. Heady was arraigned in the Village of Sherburne Court and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on cash bail; he will reappear in the Town of Smyrna Court at later date.

State Police arrested 65-year-old Joaquin Delgado of the Bronx, for Aggravated DWI, with a B.A.C. result of .20% and other traffic violations, after troopers responded to a report of a car in a ditch on Phillips Odell Road in the town of Guilford. Michael Rodriguez of Pennsylvania was charged with reckless endangerment & assault, for firing allegedly firing a weapon at the Galleria Mall in Wallkill on November 26th. Fire investigators have ruled that it was static electricity set fire to a flammable liquid during the manufacturing process that led to a fire at the Verla Cosmetics factory in New Windsor on November 20th. 1 person was killed & 125 suffered a variety of injuries at the plant that employed 225 people.

The Broome County Legislature has tabled a vote on accepting state funding for the proposed opioid addiction center being opened in the former Broome Developmental Center. The State had offered 2.7 Million dollars toward start up costs at the facility, which was scheduled to open early next year. Syracuse Behavioral Healthcare is scheduled to operate the facility.

51-year-old John Gomes of Cohoes has been charged with reckless endangerment & arson, for allegedly trying to recreate a smithing technique he saw on television that led to a fire that destroyed 3 buildings & damaged 18 others last Thursday in Cohoes. 1 firefighter was injured in the Thursday afternoon fire, which spread rapidly from Gomes’s backyard due to 20 to 30 mile an hour wind gusts.

Chenango County Court Judge Frank Revoir made only a mild adjustment to the bail of Ernest Franklin of Guilford this week. Franklin’s cash bail remained the same at $125,000, bond was reduced from $250,000 to $200,000 Thursday, Franklin is accused of planning the murder of his special needs son Jeffrey Franklin & setting fire to the family home to cover up the murder. Heather Franklin is currently out on bail; both will be tried separately next year, according to Chenango County DA Joe McBride.

The State DEC, the Chautauqua County DA’s Office & and Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department announced that 34 year old Thomas Jadlowski of Sherman, surrendered to officers, he is accused of shooting his neighbor, 43 year old Rosemary Bilquist, while she was walking her dogs on November 22nd. Jadlowski was arraigned on a 2-count indictment for 2nd degree manslaughter & hunting after legal hours. Billquist died from a gunshot wound at a local hospital within hours of the incident.

Acco Brands of Sidney & Wal-Mart announced an agreement today in Sidney that Walmart will have a large assortment of Acco Brands products in their stores, following a 250 billion dollar Walmart corporate decision to commit to purchasing American Made Products. Governor Cuomo today announced the availability of up to $3.5 million for research and development proposals to accelerate the use of electric vehicles, reduce the cost of installing and operating charging stations, and provide recommendations on how they can be used for grid resiliency. NYSERDA will administer the solicitation, proposals could focus on How to reduce the impact of charging vehicles on the grid; how vehicles can be integrated into buildings to provide backup power; or How to remotely manage electric vehicle charging at peak times. There are about 23,000 electric vehicles registered in New York currently.

New York State of Health announced that more than 45,800 new enrollees already have enrolled in coverage in the first four weeks of the current open enrollment for next year. Enrollment is outpacing last year by about 13% & more than 140,000 consumers have already renewed coverage or newly enrolled in health plan for 2018. New York’s uninsured rate is down to 4.7%.

Assemblyman Cliff Crouch reminded pistol permit holders that due to SAFE Act requirements, they must recertify all pistol permits 5 years after the date the license was issued. Last January, the State Police mailed approximately 350,000 letters statewide to remind pistol owners of the new recertification restrictions. Governor Cuomo today announced New York has committed $2.6 million to build or improve 12 playgrounds at 10 State Parks across New York – as part of a goal to modernize 100 State Park playgrounds. Locally, Chenango Valley State Park will receive funds to construct a 3,500-square-foot splash pad as a part of the beach redevelopment.


The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and Delaware County Corrections Officers arrested several people who were allegedly conspiring with inmates to smuggle contraband into the Correctional Facility during visitation periods. arrested were Maureen Storrs of Delhi, Mary Ellen Chukoloski of Binghamton & Britney Fraser of Davenport on a vareity of drug charges & conspiracy. All three were arraigned in the Town of Delhi Court and were remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $40,000.00 cash bail or $80,000.00 bond. Deputies arrested inmates George Robinson of Delhi, Edward Reed of Binghamton, Gregory Shamus of Delhi, on a variety of charges including promoting prison contraband & conspiracy, they were arraigned in the Town of Delhi Court on November 28, 2017 and returned to the Delaware County Correctional Facility without bail.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched Sunday Afternoon to North Main Street in Sherburne for a fight in progress with 6 people involved. Deputies found a female victim with injuries to her left knee and back; she was transported to Chenango Memorial Hospital for evaluation. Deputies located 32 year old Jason Anderson, he was arrested and charged with 1 count of 3rd Degree assault & was arraigned & released pending future court action.

Delaware County Public Health will be hosting a free training session called “Self Care: A Response to Vicarious Trauma”. The program will be held on Monday December 11th from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon & from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. The program is geared to professionals who treat people with physical or emotional traumas full time, and often find themselves in need of counseling. Registration is required at 832-5200.

Governor Cuomo announced today that $5 million dollars has been awarded to 16 high need school districts state wide, to expand their pre-k programs for 3 & 4 year olds. Locally, the Windsor School District will receive $137,000 to expand that program.

A funeral service will be held for Congressman Maurice Hinchey in Saugerties this morning, at 10:00 AM. Services will be held at the St. John the Evangelist Church on State Route 212 in Saugerties. Hinchey served for 20 years representing much of this region in Congress, after serving for 18 years in the State Assembly.

State Police arrested 44 year old Joseph Bassett of the town of Maryland for Unlawful Imprisonment, Assault and Menacing, after troopers responded to a dispute on County Route 34 in the town of Westford. Bassett is accused of holding down a woman & punching her several times in the face; Bassett was arraigned in the town of Westford Court and was remanded to the Otsego County Jail in lieu of $500 cash bail or $1,000 property bond. An order of protection was issued.

State Police arrested 38 year old Erik Barber of Syracuse, for the felonies of DWI & Criminal Possession of a Firearm and other traffic violations. Troopers were advised of an erratic driver on State Route 8 in the town of New Berlin; Barber was arraigned at the village of Sherburne Court and was released on his own recognizance. His next court date in the town of New Berlin Court is December 6th.
