State Attorney General Letitia James announced that 2 conservative political operatives; Jacob Wohl and Jack Burkman, will have to pay $1.25 million under a settlement to New York. Wohl & Burkman orchestrated a robocall campaign to dissuade about 85,000 Black people from voting in the 2020 election, in Ohio, Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania and Illinois. The robocall told the victims that they could be subjected to arrest, debt collection and forced vaccination if they voted by mail. Wohl and Burkman pleaded guilty to felony telecommunications fraud in Ohio, they were sued in New York by The National Coalition on Black Civil Participation, they also recruited a college student to falsely claim he was raped by then-Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg.

Broome County District Attorney’s office announced that 39 year old Majid Richardson of Binghamton was found guilty of 4 counts of Criminal Contempt, plus 3rd degree Robbery and 2 counts of Grand Larceny by a Jury in Broome County Court. On June 1, 2023, Richardson forcibly stole from a victim and then attempted to contact that victim multiple times from Broome County Jail after an order of protection was issued. Richardson is due back in court for sentencing on July 3, 2024, where he will be sentenced to State Prison.

Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchack announced that 48 year old Lance Johnson was sentenced to 70 years in Prison in Broome County Court Thursday. Johnson was found guilty for the murder of of his girlfriend Alison Salisbury, who was killed august 7th of 2020.

The State Department of Transportation announced that construction is complete on a $16 million project to replace the bridge carrying Front Street over Interstate 81 at Exit 5 in the Town of Dickinson. The project consisted of roundabouts placed at 2 intersections, along Route 11 and the upgrade of another intersection with new traffic signals.

$55.4 million in financial assistance will be available for water infrastructure improvement projects throughout the state. Locally, the City of Oneonta will receive $6.7 Million Dollars from interest-free financing for upgrades to the city’s wastewater treatment plant.

Governor Kathy Hochul will deliver the State of The State address on Tuesday, January 10 at 1:00 PM in Albany. The address will be delivered in the State Assembly Chamber to a joint session of the legislature.

The Binghamton Black Bears announced that the long standing Binghamton Hockey tradition, the Teddy Bear Toss, will be part of Saturday night’s game against the Delaware Thunder at the Arena. Fans are invited to bring teddy bears, or other stuffed animals, to the game and throw them on the ice after the Black Bears’ first goal, the bears will be picked up and donated to the Crime Victims Assistance Center, where they will be given to local children as gifts this Christmas. Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 36 year old Thomas Palmatier of Butternuts, following the investigation of an accident in the Town Of Morris. Palmatier was charged with 2nd & 3rd degree Aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, failure to keep right, among other charges, he was issued an appearance ticket for town of Morris Court at a later date.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 20 year old Andrew Wellman of Hartwick, for endangering the Welfare of a child & 2nd degree harassment, following the report of a physical domestic dispute on November 17th. 27 Year Old Tyler Streeter of Norwich has been arrested following an investigation by the Department of Homeland Security, the Norwich City Police. Streeter was arrested Monday for interstate transportation of a minor, with the intent that the minor engage in prostitution or any criminal sexual activity. The alleged offense took place in April in the state of Maine, Streeter is being held in the Oneida County Jail pending transfer to the State of Maine by the U.S. Marshals Service.

The State Health Department continues to monitor the surge in COVID 19 cases statewide. Over 178,000 people were tested Monday with 7166 positive, just over 4% of all tested. Hospitalizations continue to increase, to 2580, the number in an ICU bed is just under 500 again & the number on Ventilators is 242, there were 31 deaths from COVID in Hospitals & Nursing homes Monday.

State Police and local law enforcement agencies will participate in a special traffic safety initiative to prevent unsafe driving behavior during the Thanksgiving weekend today through Sunday. temporary lane closures for road and bridge construction projects on New York State highways will be suspended beginning Wednesday, Nov. 24 at 6 am. through Monday, Nov. 29 at 6 am. The State Police will supplement regular patrols statewide with dedicated impaired driving patrols including Drug Recognition Experts, fixed sobriety checkpoints, underage drinking enforcement, speed enforcement, and the use of Concealed Identity Traffic Enforcement patrol vehicles to better locate drivers talking or texting on handheld devices.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office announced the 2nd arrest of a Walton man on Grand Larceny charges resulting from a lengthy and ongoing investigation. On Monday, Deputies and Investigators arrested 58-year-old Raymond Albertina of the Town of Walton, for 1 count of 3rd degree Grand Larceny for allegedly making numerous unauthorized purchases using another person’s credit card, in excess of $3,000.00. Albertina was previously arrested on November 4th for 2nd & 3rd degree Grand Larceny for allegedly stealing property from business associates determined to be valued over $53,000.00. Albertina was arraigned in the Town of Franklin Court and again released to reappear at a later date.

The Sidney Police Department investigated 2 incidents of a scheme where a forged postal money order had been used or attempted to be used at the Sidney Federal Credit Union in Sidney. The investigation revealed that the Sidney cases were similar to cases in other jurisdictions. Sidney Police teamed up with Police in Delhi, Walton and Bainbridge, they arrested 22 year old Daron Bartholomew of Brooklyn for Grand larceny & Scheming to defraud, & 21 year old Anthony Someone of Merrick for Possession of a forged instrument & Attempted Scheming to defraud, both were arraigned in Village of Sidney Court and were released & will return to court at a later date.

Broome County Health Department reported another 81 positive COVID 19 Friday, they have had a total of 4565 cases, they reported another death, they are up to 113 deaths, they’ve had 3881 recoveries & over 4000 are being monitored.

Chenango County Public Health is up to 531 COVID 19 cases since March, they have 57 Active Cases, 4 Hospitalizations, & 411 Active Quarantines.  There have been 465 Total Recoveries, 10 deaths and over 42,000 Tests have been performed.

Hartwick College reported 1 new case of COVID-19, there is 2 active cases on campus; the total number of cases detected since August is 68.  After today, Hartwick students will be completing the rest of the semester remotely, as planned.

The Helio Health Center announced 50 new stabilization and rehabilitation beds in Binghamton, in the fight against the ongoing opioid crisis.  The $13 million investment will add 50 more beds to the current 50 bed facility on Glenwood Road.

Otsego County Sheriff’s office arrested 23 year old George Wang of Lawrence Kansas for Attempted Murder, Vehicular Assault, DWI & Operating a vehicle while impaired by drugs, after intentionally striking a pedestrian with a motor vehicle in the Town of Hartwick Wednesday afternoon.  Wang allegedly drove off the roadway and shoulder into a grassy area in front of TOPS Plaza, where he struck a pedestrian, Witnesses aided the victim, Wang fled at a high rate of speed south on State Route 28.  State Police stopped Wang at State Route 28 and the I-88 interchange; he was arraigned & is being held at the Otsego County Jail on $300,000 bond.  The victim is listed as in stable condition and is being treated for multiple injuries sustained during the incident.

Otsego County Health Department had 14 new COVID 19 cases reported Thursday & they continue to investigate a cluster of cases linked to the Copper Fox. Otsego County had had 1142 total confirmed cases, 75 active cases with 1 hospitalized.  There have been 8 deaths, 762 cases linked to SUNY Oneonta & 67 confirmed cases in Hartwick College students

Delaware County Public Health had 7 new COVID 19 cases on Thursday, with 5 hospitalized, 55 active cases, & 187 people are quarantined.  They are up to 296 total cases, with 232 recoveries & 9 deaths.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to County Highway 14 in the hamlet of Treadwell Wednesday to investigate a report of a female slumped over in the driver’s seat and causing a traffic obstruction.  60-year-old Lora Leitenberger of Treadwell is accused of operating a motor vehicle in an intoxicated condition, she was charged with the felony DWI, for having 2 prior DWI convictions within the previous 10-years.  Leitenberger was also issued traffic summonses for parking on pavement & open container; she faces court action at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff Deputies responded November 8th to the Town of Davenport where 65-year-old Jack Burgess of Davenport allegedly engaged in communications and the exchange of images with a child, in violation of an order of protection issued for that child.  On Tuesday November 10th, Deputies located, arrested and charged Burgess with criminal contempt of court and endangering the welfare of a child, Burgess is directed to appear in the Town of Davenport Court on a later date.

Chenango County Public Health announced that they are up to 133 confirmed cases of the coronavirus Monday.  112 are quarantined, 1 is hospitalized, 92 have recovered, there have been 5 deaths, & just fewer than 4300 tests have been conducted.

The Broome County Health Department announced today that they were up to 559 total positive cases of the Coronavirus, they have 44 deaths, 392 recoveries & 395 are being monitored by the Health Department.

A report released by New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli found 50% of the contracts in 2019 between Not-for-Profit organizations and the state were not processed until after the contract start date. DiNapoli’s report showed that  50% were processed after their start or renewal dates, he recommends that State agencies make prompt contracting a priority, The Not-for-Profit Contracting Advisory Committee should meet regularly & that State agencies should use electronic means to pay promptly & pay any interest due with the first payment to avoid cash flow problems.

Governor Cuomo announced that New York dentists can reopen statewide today. Dentists’ offices will be subject to state guidance on best practices for safety and social distancing. Binghamton Fire Fighters responded overnight to a fire at Recreation Park.  Officials with the Binghamton Fire Department reported that the fire started around 12:45 AM & destroyed the entire playground.  The investigation is continuing.

Governor Cuomo signed into law a new measure providing death benefits to the families of frontline workers who lost their lives fighting Coronavirus in New York. The bill establishes a COVID-19 death benefit for the families of state and local government employees who have been on the front lines of this public health emergency.

Delaware County Public Health is reporting no new cases of COVID-19 Sunday and 1 additional recovery, the known active cases is 10, there have been 73 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19, with 20 people quarantined, 6 are in a hospital, 4 are isolated at home, 4 people have died and 59 have fully recovered.

The Otsego County Department of Health has learned of a potential exposure to coronavirus at a public venue & they are now seeking to identify and notify individuals who attended a livestock auction at Unadilla Livestock 38 Maple Avenue in Unadilla on Saturday May 16th.   Otsego County Assistant Public Health Director Kim Schlosser told WCDO News that the auction was agricultural and was allowed to be open in Phase 1 of the Reopening:

Schlosser said that an individual who lives in another county attended the auction from 1:30-9:30pm has since been confirmed to have COVID 19 & that individual was not wearing a mask.  Anyone who attended the auction, who develops symptoms, should contact their primary care provider, or the COVID Hotline at 547-5555 or the Otsego County Health Department at 547-4316 to get tested, also, if attendees know someone who attended the auction in the Amish community, to inform them of positive test & self-monitor for symptoms of the illness.

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation will open 16 beaches across the state for swimming today with lifeguards staffed at normal levels to ensure public safety. Chenango County Public Health announced their Coronavirus statistics, they announced a 5th death, there is 1 person in a Hospital, 33 are quarantined, there are 118 total cases & 86 recoveries, they have performed 2236 tests.

The Broome County Health Department announced that they were up to 468 positive Coronavirus cases Friday, with 32 deaths, 331 recoveries & 237 are being monitored by the Health Department.  They have conducted just under 9000 tests so far.

According to the preliminary results from the U.S. Department of Labor’s business and household surveys for April 2020, the number of private sector jobs in New York State decreased over the month by 1,764,600, or 21.4 percent, to 6,467,600. This was the state’s largest monthly employment drop on record. Just under one-third of the monthly jobs decline occurred in leisure and hospitality, mostly in accommodation and food services.  In April 2020, New York State’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased from 4.1% to 14.5%, the largest recorded monthly increase since current record keeping began in 1976.

State Police will increase patrols to combat drunk, impaired and reckless driving throughout this Memorial Day weekend. The STOP-DWI enforcement period starts on Friday, May 22, and runs through Tuesday, May 26. State Police and our local law enforcement partners will be out in force to remove impaired and reckless drivers from our highways.  On Memorial Day weekend in 2019, Troopers arrested 225 people for drinking and driving, issued 13,693 total tickets, and investigated 134 personal injury crashes, which resulted in four fatalities. ?In addition to the New York State Police, numerous counties and agencies throughout the state also participate in the annual Memorial Day Crackdown.

Delaware County Public Health received 3 positive lab reports for COVID-19 Thursday, the total is now up to 68 positive cases, 54 have recovered, 7 are isolating at home, 3 are hospitalized, 4 are deceased & 17 are quarantined.

Congressman Antonio Delgado announced the award of nearly $100,000 in federal funding through U.S. Department of Transportation & the Federal Aviation Administration. Delgado announced $69,000 for Columbia County Airport in Hudson and $30,000 for Sidney Municipal Airport in Delaware County.
