The National Baseball Hall of Fame Induction ceremonies honored 6 players into The Hall Sunday at the Clarks Sport Center in Cooperstown; Alan Trammell, Chipper Jones, Vladimir Guerrero, Jim Thome, Jack Morris & Trevor Hoffman.

2 players inducted yesterday played their entire careers with one team, Chipper Jones with the Atlanta Braves & Alan Trammell with the Detroit Tigers. Trammell currently works in the Detroit Tigers Front Office:

Vladimir Guerrero & Jim Thome were 2 of the most feared Home Run Hitters of their time in the 90’s & 2000’s. Guerrero, through his interpreter Jose Mota had 3 reasons to celebrate, his induction into the Hall of Fame, that it was Father’s day in his home country the Dominican Republic, and his son Vlad Jr. was promoted to Triple AAA by the Toronto Blue Jays:

2 pitchers who pitched long & Successful careers were inducted yesterday, Jack Morris, who won World Championships with the Detroit Tigers, Minnesota Twins & the Toronto Blue Jays, and Trevor Hoffman who hold the record for the most saves in Major League History with 601. Morris gave some advice at the conclusion of his speech:

Former Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver sentenced to 7 years in prison & 3 years post release supervision Friday in a Manhattan federal court for accepting $4 million in illegal payments. Silver was convicted for 7 felonies from schemes where Silver used his political power to gain personal wealth.

54 Baseball Hall of Fame members are expected to return, July 27 to the 30th, to celebrate the induction of the Hall of Fame Class of 2018. This year’s inductees are Vladimir Guerrero, Trevor Hoffman, Chipper Jones, Jack Morris, Jim Thome and Alan Trammell, they will be inducted on Sunday, July 29, with the Induction Ceremony beginning at 1:30 PM at the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown.

Oneonta Police arrested 2 residents Tuesday on Drug charges after they executed a search warrant at the Mayrose Apartments on Lewis Avenue. Police arrested 56 year old Doris Frimpong & 31 year old Dashawn Braxton on 4 counts each of criminal sale of a controlled substance. Police confiscated crack cocaine & powered cocaine, packaged for sale, both were being held in the Otsego County jail pending court action.

State Police arrested 36 year old Henry Kortekaas of Laurens for Menacing & Resisting Arrest, after Troopers responded to a report of a fight in progress on Main Street in the village of Laurens. Kortekaas is accused of threatening 2 people with a knife, he was arraigned & was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 bond, pending action today in Laurens Court.

State Police arrested 40 year old Jason Lowe of Greene for DWI & Unlawful possession of marijuana. A trooper patrolling State Highway 206 in Greene observed Lowe traveling at a high rate of speed. After a traffic stop was initiated, the trooper determined Lowe was intoxicated and possessed 13 grams of marijuana. Lowe was released on appearance tickets returnable to the town of Greene Court on July 19th.

State Police arrested 43 year old Stephanie Spathelf of Coventry for Making a Punishable False Written Statement and Obstructing Governmental Administration. On July 1, troopers were dispatched to a 1 car rollover on State Highway 7 in Colesville, when they arrived, no one was in the vehicle, Spathelf told troopers someone else was driving the vehicle. Troopers learned that Spathelf was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash, she was arrested July 9, & was arraigned at Central Arraignment and released on her own recognizance.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies are currently investigating the theft of heavy duty York rake owned by the Town of Hancock Highway Department. The orange, heavy duty tow behind York brand rake was stolen from a highway pull off near the intersection of Charles Medlar Road and Bert Medlar Road in the Town of Hancock between Tuesday, July 3, and Monday, July 10. The rake has wheels and is 8 feet in width. Deputies are asking the public to contact the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office 832-5555, or 287-4759.

Oneonta-area non-profit organizations are getting an assist from students in a Hartwick College grant writing class. Students in the “Introduction to Grant Writing” class, partner with a local organization with the goal of developing and submitting a grant proposal on their behalf. This year, 6 students assisted: Girls on the Run, the EDD Memorial Fund, Valleyview Elementary School, the Oneonta Fire Department, and the College’s own Yager Museum of Art & Culture with grant writing assistance. The National Baseball Hall Of Fame announced that the 2018 Inductees Exhibit is open and will remain on display through May 2019. The exhibit is located on the first floor & features a display for Vladimir Guerrero, Trevor Hoffman, Chipper Jones, Jack Morris, Jim Thome and Alan Trammell. The exhibit is accompanied by a highlight video for each member of the Class of 2018. State DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos announced $4 million in grant funding for generators of excess wholesome food and food scraps to expand their capacity to donate it to organic recycling facilities. An estimated 40% of the food produced in the United States goes uneaten while about 2.5 million New Yorkers go hungry. Seggos said that much of the wasted food is disposed of in solid waste landfills where its decomposition accounts for more than 15% of emissions of methane, which is a potent greenhouse gas.
