Military Veterans from the Vietnam War era are invited to a Recognition Event in Oneonta in May, put together by several area organizations. Grant Coates of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 85 told WCDO news about the event:

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 27 year old Clayton Utter of Unadilla for DWI, On March 25th, Deputies were at the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office processing an unrelated individual for DWI, when they received a complaint of a vehicle disabled/stuck on the property of the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies located a vehicle stuck near the building and determined that Utter was coming to pick up an individual in custody for DWI, Deputies arrested Utter fro DWI, driving with a BAC of .08% or more, Criminal Mischief, & an inoperable headlamp. Utter was released on appearance tickets and turned over to a sober driver to appear at the Town of Delhi Court at a later date to answer the charges.

State Lawmakers were late in getting the budget completed by midnight Monday night, and negotiations are going on in private between the Governor’s office & leaders from both houses of the legislature. Local Assemblyman Joe Angelino told WCDO News what the hold ups are:

Attorney General Letitia James today secured the largest multi-state agreement with JUUL Labs and its former directors and executives for their alleged role in contributing to the nationwide youth vaping epidemic. As part of a multi state agreement, JUUL will pay $462 million to 6 states and the District of Columbia, New York will receive $112.7 million, which will support underage vaping abatement programs across the state.

Firefighters in Mount Upton & South New Berlin have responded to a reported Structure Fire at 415 Copes Corners Road, in the town of Butternuts. The fire was called in at about 1:00 PM this afternoon, early reports suggest that it is contained to a barn, WCDO News will have more details as they become available.

Governor Kathy Hochul has nominated Rowan Wilson as chief judge of the state’s Court of Appeals, which is the state’s highest court. Wilson is a Harvard Law School graduate who currently serves as an associate judge of the Court of Appeals, which he has held for 6 years. Wilson is Hochul’s 2nd nomination for the position, she previously nominated Hector LaSalle, that choice was rejected by lawmakers in the Governor’s own party.

The Broome County Court District Attorney’s Office announced that 30-year-old Dominick Howe pleaded guilty to felony Criminal Mischief. In December of 2022, Howe was accused of cutting off his GPS monitor and damaging it, he was required to wear it because of a previous felony conviction for Attempted Robbery, he will be sentenced to 2 to 4 years in State prison on June 23rd in Broome County Court.

The annual statewide burn ban is in effect until May 14.

Trout Creek Firefighters responded to a blaze at 9275 State Highway 206 Monday at about 4:00 AM. The house was completely destroyed, nearby structures suffered heat damage, Trout Creek Fire Department received assistance from firefighters from Masonville, Sidney Center, Walton and Sidney Fire Departments, the cause of the fire was accidental and started in the laundry room of the house.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli announced the results of an audit of the Town of Delhi Highway Department. The Audit claims that Town officials did not accurately maintain employee leave records. Leave balances for the former deputy highway superintendent from 2015 through 2019 were overstated by a total of 362 hours valued at almost $8,000, the former deputy was arrested in September 2020 and charged with grand larceny.

The suspect is accused of going through a vehicle while it was parked at Animal Adventure Park near Colesville on October 16 and taking money, credit cards and checks. The suspect’s picture was obtained when she attempted to cash a check using the victim’s identification at the NBT Bank in Syracuse. The Delaware County Board of Supervisors passed their 103 million dollar budget at their meeting Wednesday in Delhi. The tax levy increase was held to about 1.4%, the board also approved of forming the substance Abuse Prevention Task Force which will include members of several County Agencies to try to combat the ongoing Heroin & Opioid problem.

The Autopsy performed on 50 year old Wade Bostwick of Milford showed that he died of carbon monoxide poisoning. Bostwick was found dead in his home after firefighters responded to a fire at his Center Street Milford Address last Saturday afternoon.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Department arrested 20 year old Christopher Robinson of the Town of Maryland, following allegations of an adult having sexual encounters with a juvenile. Robinson was charged with 2nd degree Rape & Criminal Sexual Act, for allegedly performing sexual acts with a female who was 14 & 15 years old at the time of the incidents in question. Robinson was arraigned in the Town of Worcester Court & is being held on $5,000 dollars cash bail or $10,000 bond at the Otsego County Jail.

Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville and the Wildlife Conservation Center of Virginia announced that Tajiri, the calf of April born before the whole world last year, will be transported to the Carolina Wildlife Conservation Park outside of Raleigh, North Carolina. Animal Adventure Park owner Jordan Patch stated that this move will allow Tajiri to play a vital role in the conservation and propagation initiatives that align with the facilities mission statements. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 55 year old Douglas Jones of Hamden, Friday for Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The arrest occurred following an investigation regarding a Facebook messenger conversation between Jones and a child under the age of 17, where Jones is accused of acting in a manner likely to be injurious to the child’s mental and moral well-being. Jones was arraigned & was released upon his own recognizance, and scheduled to appear before the Town of Davenport Court at a later date.

State Police arrested 41 year old Bobbi Falank of Sidney for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a BAC of .22%. Troopers were dispatched to a report of an erratic driver on Woodland Road in Sidney who had driven through a lawn. Troopers caught up with the Falank, she was arrested and released on appearance tickets returnable to the town of Sidney Court on September 20th.

State Police arrested 49 year old Scott Ray of Afton for DWI, after Troopers on patrol observed the vehicle Ray was operating speeding and cross over the double yellow line while on County Road 39 in Afton.
