The Broome County District Attorney’s Office announced that 32-year-old Stephen Moran of Binghamton was arraigned in Broome County Court Thursday, he was charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, vehicular manslaughter, 2nd degree manslaughter, along with several other charges, he is accused of driving intoxicated at an excessive speed August 8th on the Vestal Parkway, his vehicle crashed into a vehicle occupied by Alfred and Paula Latessa, Alfred was pronounced dead at the scene, Paula succumbed to her injuries at an area hospital shortly after the crash.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office announced that a man missing from Delaware County was discovered illegally harvesting ginseng in the town of Middletown. The unidentified man was reported missing on August 31st after he failed to return home; an acquaintance found the man’s vehicle on a private logging road in the town of Middletown. The Sheriff’s Office K9 team located the missing person in good health, An Environmental Conservation Office seized the ginseng he was charged with harvesting ginseng without landowner permission, trespassing, and petty larceny.

The Greater Binghamton Airport announced today that they will be offering additional flights to New York City shortly. Officials announced that Delta Airlines will be offering 2 flights a day to LaGuardia Airport, starting on January 9th. Tickets for the New York City flights will be sold starting tomorrow.

State Police are continuing their search to locate Frederick Mayock who was last seen on the Canadarago Lake boat launch with a kayak on October 22, 2022. Investigators are asking the public who live or have businesses near Canadarago Lake and near the boat launch on State Highway 28 to review security or surveillance footage that show a white kayak (pictured below). If anyone has video of the kayak from Saturday, October 22 between the hours of 9am and 8pm to please contact New York State Police at (607)561-7400.

Otsego County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Dollar General on State Highway 28 in Hartwick for the report of a vehicle running into a utility pole, where the driver fled the scene on foot. Deputies and Cooperstown Police located the driver , 40 year old Kevin Clapper of Fly Creek a short distance from the scene. Clapper was arrested and charged with Aggravated DWI; Leaving the scene of a property damage accident & Consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle among several other charges, He was issued appearance tickets to the Town of Hartwick Court at a later date.

State Police are looking for 2 people who scammed a clerk at the Owego Speedway October 5th, by engaging in a series of purchases including lottery tickets and Visa cards, stealing over $3,693 from the store. The incident occurred on October 5, and it is believed the pair conducted a similar scam in Johnson City earlier that evening. They may be operating a white Ford sedan. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a 1 car motor vehicle accident Thursday on State Highway 23 in the Town of Davenport, near the intersection of Brick House Hill Road.  The investigation determined that a 13-year-old passenger sustained a serious head injury from the accident & LifeNet airlifted the teen to Albany Medical Center.  The driver 35 year-old Robert Smith of Davenport sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.   Deputies learned that Smith fell asleep at the wheel, the car travelled across the on-coming lane of traffic and ran off the roadway where it struck a tree, Smith was charged with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration, moving from a lane unsafely, failure to keep right, he will appear in the Town of Davenport Court at a later date.

The State Department of Transportation is advising motorists that, beginning tomorrow, Chenango Street in City of Binghamton, will close in both directions at the I-81 overpass. The closure is expected to last approximately three months.  Motorists are advised that detours will be posted, through traffic heading north on Chenango Street will be diverted at Frederick Street & Southbound traffic will be diverted at Bevier Street.  Local traffic will retain access to homes, businesses, places of worship, and side streets located between the diversions and the overpass. Bicycle and pedestrian access will be maintained through the work zone on Chenango Street.

Plans will be in the works shortly, as Unadilla House Owner Gus Hatzidakis & Unadilla Mayor Jack Insinga will work together to try to get funding to rebuild & restore the long time Unadilla Centerpiece, Mayor Insinga said that he discussed it with Hatzidakis today & told WCDO what they expect to do next:

Insinga said that the Unadilla House had become problematic with squatters and drug users damaging the property in recent years, the squatters have left and they are now hoping to turn that around, re-open the business & fix the apartments.

Delaware County Public Health announced that a 53rd death from COVID 19 complications, they have had 100 new positive cases in the last week, there are 118 active cases, 4 hospitalized and 170 are quarantined.  The CDC & Delaware County Public Health recommends everyone should wear a mask indoors in public places.  Vaccine clinic sites at can be found at covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov.  Currently, 49.4% of the Delaware County population is vaccinated, 77% of the positive cases are unvaccinated, 23% of the positive cases are vaccinated & 2.5% of positive cases are college students/employees.

UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital’s Sidney office on Pearl Street, will host a Pfizer vaccination Clinic this Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Local Dr. Rohan Jayasena told WCDO News that the Pfizer Vaccine is the favored Vaccine for children 12 to 18, that will enable them to get back to pre-covid activities like school & sports:

Delhi Village Police responded on May 8th for a report of a person passed out behind the wheel of a running motor vehicle, Police found 3 people who all appeared to be suffering from an opioid overdose. They were taken to O’Connor Hospital for treatment. Police discovered of a small amount of heroin in the vehicle; resulting in the arrests of 60-year-old Ronald Alston of Portlandville, 69-year-old Charles David Jr. of Delhi & 67-year-old Thaddeus David of Portlandville on drug charges, all 3 were released with appearance tickets returnable to the Delhi Town Court.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum announced expanded summer hours beginning this Sunday, from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM through Sunday of the Labor Day weekend. The Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee joined with law enforcement to announce the kickoff of the annual “Buckle Up New York, Click it or Ticket” campaign.
