Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond has been elected as the President of the New York State Sheriffs’ Association yesterday, with the ceremony at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Albany. The ceremony was attended by Governor Kathy Hochul to introduce Sheriff DuMond. In his new capacity, Sheriff DuMond will lead the New York State Sheriffs’ Association in its mission to enhance the quality of law enforcement and public safety services throughout the state. His leadership is expected to bring forth collaboration, best practices, and advocacy for policies that bolster the essential work of law enforcement.

The State Department of Labor announced that the number of private sector jobs increased by 5,800, or 0.1%, to over 8.26 million in December 2023. The State’s unemployment rate increased from 4.3% in November to 4.5% in December, the State’s total labor force decreased by 7,500, the statewide labor force participation rate decreased slightly to 61.6% in December.

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is calling for continued federal funding for the Low Income Household Water Assistance Program in the upcoming government funding bill. The Program assists households whose drinking water and/or wastewater services have been disconnected, or are about to be disconnected, because of inability to pay,

Senator Gillibrand said that the program was established in 2021, it has helped over 1 million households nationwide, including over 35,000 in New York, afford their water and wastewater bills:but it expired last year, she is pushing for funding for this program to be renewed in the next federal budget.

49-year-old Charles Bodie of Meredith & Edmeston pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation of a child, in federal court in Syracuse. Bodie admitted that from December of 2021 through October of 2022, he exchanged sexually explicit text messages with his victim, & to engaging in sexual activity with the same victim, who was between 13 to 15 years old. Bodie faces 15 to 30 years in prison, between 5 years and life on supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000, as well as restitution to the victim. He will also be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison, sentencing is on Wednesday, May 15.

The Bainbridge-Guilford Central School District will be holding a vote on their $15.4 Million Dollar capital project on Wednesday, December 7th, BG Superintendent Tim Ryan explains:

The State Health Department reported that COVID 19 statistics continue to increase, as the regular flu cases are also widespread. Statistics from November 5th through the 7th showed that 6.84% of those test were positive for the virus, patients hospitalizations are approaching 3000 statewide, with 302 ICU patients and 105 of those were on ventilators. There were 66 more deaths reported in Hospitals & nursing homes over the 3 day reporting period.

Several people were injured in a house fire at 83 Rush Avenue in Binghamton early this morning. several people were taken to area hospitals, Binghamton firefighters had the fire under control in about 45 minutes, the cause of the fire is under investigation.

State Police announced that In the month of October, members from Troop “C” removed 34 impaired drivers off the roadways. 3 of those impaired drivers also had a child under the age of 15 in the vehicle with them, 5 of those drivers were more than double the legal limit, 7 of those drivers were under the influence of drugs.

State Police responded Wednesday to an SUV Rollover accident on Frost Hill Road in the town of Plainfield, where the vehicle driven by 28 year old Amber Brown of Rome went off the roadway, struck an embankment and partially overturned. 3 year old Amina Estrada was pronounced dead at the scene, 2 adults & 4 children in the Estrada family were taken to Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Utica for further medical care. The accident is still under investigation.

Last year, Development Chenango purchased 14 to 16 South Broad Street, Norwich, for the purpose of developing a boutique hotel. 18-year-old Payton Gendron of Conklin was charged Wednesday by an Erie County Grand Jury with domestic terrorism motivated by hate and 10 counts of 1st-degree murder. Gendron has been in custody since the May 14th shooting at a Buffalo TOPS Supermarket, the 25-count indictment also contains charges of murder and attempted murder as a hate crime and weapons possession.

State Police responded to a report of a head-on collision involving an SUV and a Trailways bus on State Highway 23 in the town of Davenport. The only occupant of the SUV, a 65-year-old woman of Stamford, was pronounced deceased on scene. Her name is being withheld pending notifications to family. 5 people were on the bus, the driver is a 44-year-old woman of Astoria, and passenger who is a 59-year-old female of Hartwick were transported to Bassett Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. 3 other passengers were not injured, The investigation is on-going.

A law introduced after the murder of Utica teen Bianca Devins has passed in the State Senate and Assembly. Bianca’s Law would create criminal and civil penalties for disseminating personal images of crime victims. In 2019, Bianca Devins was murdered by Brandon Clark in Utica, he posted photos of her body on social media, which were spread on various platforms and sent directly to members of her family. The law is headed to Governor Hochul’s desk for approval..

A Black Lives Matter gathering in Bainbridge was met by dozens of counter protestors supporting Police agencies Saturday afternoon.  Gilda Ward of the Tri-County Tea Party Patriots said that she was there to Support the police of the area:

The State Health Department reported 408 new positive COVID 19 cases Sunday, out of just fewer than 57,000 tests.  There were 534 hospitalizations, with 133 in ICU beds & 64 on ventilators; there were 6 deaths Sunday, bringing the state death toll to 25,256.  425,900 New Yorkers have tested positive for the virus since March.

Chenango County Public Health announced that they were at 218 total positive cases of COVID 19 since March.  91 people are quarantined, 1 is hospitalized, 197 have recovered, there have been 7 deaths, and they have conducted over 19,600 tests.

The Broome County Health Department announced that they are up to 1110 positive COVID 19 cases since March, with 74 deaths, 965 recoveries & 440 people are being monitored by the Health Department, they have conducted over 33,400 tests.

The Otsego County Health Department announced another free COVID 19 testing site on Thursday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, at the Southside Mall Parking Lot in Oneonta.  The testing is for people who are not sick but want to be tested, by a nasal swab.  This is a drive up testing site. Individuals will be required to remain in their vehicle and wear a mask when pulling up to the testing tent.  This testing site is for Otsego County residents only, call 547-4279 to pre-register for the clinic.

The Governor said that on Sunday, more than 60,000 Coronavirus tests were conducted state wide, with only 1% testing positive.

New York State Department of Health announced that only about 1% of those tested for the Coronavirus this weekend tested positive.  The state had only 702 new cases Sunday, bringing the state total to 378,799.  24,299 have passed away since the pandemic started in early March.

Chenango County Public Health announced that they have 134 total cases of the Coronavirus, with only 1 hospitalized, 101 have recovered, 99 are quarantined, there have been 5 deaths, & over 5900 tests have been performed.

The Proposed budget for the Afton District is $16.4 Million dollars & the Building project is about 19 Million Dollar Building Project.  Governor Cuomo announced over the weekend that they will extend the deadline for school districts to receive school budget ballots, they can be hand delivered by 5:00 PM tomorrow and can be received by mail through June 16th.

Governor Cuomo announced Sunday that the state is considering allowing outdoor Graduation ceremonies up to 150 people with social distancing later this month:

Governor Cuomo signed legislation extending the deadline to submit absentee ballots until the day of the election.  Primary Ballots must be postmarked by June 23rd, the Governor will extend the deadline for school districts to receive school budget ballots, they can be hand delivered by 5:00 PM tomorrow and can be received by mail through June 16th.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 31 year old Mario Darder of Hancock following an investigation into a domestic dispute.  Deputies located an individual walking away from the scene of the reported domestic dispute, Darder possessed methamphetamine and heroin, he was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, he was released on an appearance ticket and directed to appear in the Tompkins Town Court on a later date.

The Broome County Health Department announced Sunday that they have had 597 positive cases of the Coronavirus since Early March.  There have been 45 deaths, 474 recoveries, 273 patients are being monitored by the Health Department, and they have conducted more than 14,000 tests.

The State Health Department reports over 1300 new coronavirus cases in Hospitals across the state Monday, bringing the state total since March of 373,040.  Another 58 died from the Virus Monday, bringing the state death toll to 24,023.

The State Health Department continues to double check the discrepancies of Coronavirus deaths attributed to both Nursing homes & Hospitals.  Early in the Pandemic, officials have learned that a Nursing home could send a positive patient to a hospital, where they later died, the hospitals would list the death among their reporting to the State, and the Nursing home, which was the patient’s legal address, would also report that death to the state.  The investigation by the Health Department is ongoing.

Governor Cuomo announced today that Summer Day Camps Can Reopen on June 29th, a decision on sleep away summer camps has not yet been reached, plans will have to be drawn up to provide for social distancing in the sleeping areas as well as during various camp activities.

The Broome County Agricultural Society announced today that they have decided to cancel the 2020 Broome County Fair.   The Board of Directors aims to resume the Broome County Fair, July 27 to August 1, 2021.

Delaware County Public Health received no positive lab reports for COVID-19 Monday, they currently report 73 Total Positive Results, 63 have recovered, 4 are Isolating at Home, 2 are Hospitalized, 4 are Deceased, 18 are Quarantined, they have performed over 26oo tests.

Chenango County Public health announced that they are up to 133 confirmed cases of the Coronavirus.  There are currently 107 people quarantined, 1 is hospitalized, 5 have died, 93 have recovered, they have conducted 4467 tests.

Otsego County Health Department announced that they have had their first positive Coronavirus test.  The individual was in close contact with another person who had tested positive in another county, that person is quarantined & close contacts have been notified.

The New York State Public High School Athletic Association announced today that they are officially cancelling the 2020 winter state championships. The sports that were still left to play were boys and girls basketball, bowling and ice hockey. Plans are being developed to honor and formally recognize the students and teams who qualified to participate in these championship events. The status of the spring state championships will be determined on or prior to Monday, April 27th.

Delaware County Board of Supervisors Chairperson Tina Mole is asking people from outside of the county, to not visit here at this time.  Mole also reminded residents that Congregations of more than 50 persons are a direct violation of the Governor’s Executive Order & it could quickly overwhelm the County healthcare system if there is a large influx of coronavirus cases.

President Donald Trump has approved a major disaster declaration for New York due to the coronavirus outbreak.  The FEMA announced federal disaster assistance is available to New York to supplement coronavirus recovery efforts.  The move makes federal crisis counseling funds available to affected individuals in all areas of the state.

Delaware County received 2 new positive reports Saturday, 1 positive case do not reside in Delaware County; the case was transferred to New York City Health Department. Currently, Delaware County has 2 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19, they are unrelated. Delaware County Public Health Services in partnership with the New York State Department of Health, local hospitals and healthcare providers is actively investigating these cases and providing guidance on reducing the spread (i.e., quarantine, cleaning and other recommendations) as appropriate.

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar announced Saturday that the 1st person in Broome County has died from the coronavirus in Lourdes Hospital. The individual was a new case in addition to those 2 previously announced late last week; the Broome County Health Department is trying to locate all those who came in contact with the deceased for testing & possible quarantine.

The Bainbridge Guilford Central School district announced that 1 member of their staff has tested positive for the Coronavirus, they do not believe that there was any contact at the school & there should be no risk to staff or students at this time.  The investigation is ongoing.

The Delaware County Clerk has announced that All Department of Motor Vehicles Offices will be closed as of Monday March 23, 2020 until further notice.  This is in compliance with the Executive Order of Governor Cuomo on March 20, 2020.  This order supersedes the previous posting of reduced hours for Department of Motor Vehicle Offices in Delaware County.
