Central New York and the North Country regions had the largest percentages of districts in a fiscal stress category.

The proposed budget announced by Governor Cuomo this week has a 6.1 billion dollar gap, about 1/3 of that from Medicaid Spending, Local Assemblyman John Salka comments:

The Greater Oneonta Historical Association announced today that the Friends of the Oneonta Theater are looking to revitalize the building. Society Executive Director Bob Brzozowski explains:

Governor Cuomo today announced legislation in the Executive Budget to make New York’s fracking ban permanent. The measure would restrict the Department of Environmental Conservation from approving permits that would authorize an applicant to drill, deepen, plug back or convert wells that use high-volume hydraulic fracturing as a means to complete or recomplete a well.

State Senator Fred Akshar released his latest Community Voice Survey on the controversial new bail reform law that went into effect at the beginning of the year.  The poll found 49% of respondents said the changes were bad for New York while 37% said they were good for the Empire State.  Akshar supports a full repeal, he has also introduced legislation to fix key parts of the bail reform law, including a bill to restore bail for several violent crimes & he also introduced legislation to remove the option of cashless bail if the arrested individual has been convicted of a felony in the past 10 years.

Citizens Energy Vice President Michael Kennedy will dedicate a major solar array in the town of Chenango today to provide green power to subscribers of the company’s JOE-4-SUN program.  Citizens Energy has partnered with Southern Tier Solar Works, a non-profit program of the Binghamton Regional Sustainability Coalition, to bring clean energy to the region. Figary was charged with 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, he faces arraignment shortly.

Fire Investigators are trying to determine what started a fire in a trailer at the Sidney Unadilla Trailer Park on State Route 7 Thursday afternoon. The fire was called in at about 1:00 PM Thursday, the 1st trailer was fully involved when fire fighters arrived, 3 occupants escaped without injury, a neighboring trailer suffered some minor damage. Fire fighters from Unadilla, Sidney, Otego & Wells Bridge responded, no injuries were reported.

2 minors have been charged with criminal mischief, criminal trespassing & unlawful possession of a weapon, following vandalism at the Morris Central School District that occurred Sunday. The 2 are accused of breaking a window, soccer nets, and screens, and for shooting at a security camera. The Morris school district was closed Monday while officers investigated.

The State DEC announced that they are considering enacting quarantine on movement into the state of landscaping debris and similar items, in order to avoid an infestation with the destructive Spotted Lanternfly. The insect is known to attach itself to yard waste, wooden crates, fruit, produce and even lawn tractors, tarps & grills. State Police have arrested a 67-year-old Douglas Slater following a stabbing in the town of Conklin Sunday night. State Police responded to 663 Conklin Road to the report of a vicitm with a stab wound, and the fleeing of the suspect by car. Slater was spotted in a vehicle by Binghamton Police, he was charged with 1st Degree Assault & was remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail, the victim was transported to Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City where he underwent surgery.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 23-year-old Cheyenne Strong of Bainbridge on an arrest warrant issued by the Town of Davenport Court for Criminal Contempt. Strong allegedly violated an active order of protection & was arraigned in the Town of Walton Court and was released on her own recognizance. She is scheduled to return to the Davenport Town Court at a later date to answer the charges.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 31 year old Eduardo Torres Jr. of Walton for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a motor vehicle, following a traffic stop on State Highway 10 in the Town of Hamden. Deputies allege that Torres’s vehicle was stopped on a dangerous turn on State Highway 10, impeding traffic, and that he had his license suspended. Torres is scheduled to reappear in the Town of Hamden Court at a later date.

Rolfe was observed by Deputies to have been operating a motor vehicle, while his driving privileges were suspended in the State of New York. Rolfe was released on an appearance ticket and was scheduled to appear before the Town of Masonville Court at a later date.

There are an estimated 6,000 to 8,000 wild bears in New York State, with most of them living in the Adirondacks and Catskills. Bob Evans Farms is recalling nearly 47,000 pounds of pork sausage links because it might contain pieces of plastic. The items have establishment number “EST 6785” & a lot number of 8213, and were sold in several state including New York & Pennsylvania, so far, no injuries have been reported. Assemblyman Cliff Crouch announced that the Harpursville School District will be receiving funding in the form of low-cost tax-exempt bonds to help support facility upgrades.
