The Governor has designated eight hospitals statewide to treat potential patients with Ebola, the State Department of Health has issued a Commissioner’s Order to all hospitals, diagnostic and treatment centers, and ambulance services in New York State, requiring that they follow protocols for identification, isolation and medical evaluation of patients requiring care. An education session for healthcare workers will be held in New York City on TUESDAY.

Long time area businessman Ralph Cuozzo Senior died Wednesday following a motor vehicle accident in the town of Sidney. Cuozzo owned & operated RC Sales & Service on Route 7 in Sidney, calling hours will be at C.H. Landers Funeral Home in Sidney from 1:00 to 3:00 PM and 5:00 to 8:00 PM this Sunday. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, at Sacred Heart Church on Liberty Street Sidney.

State senator Jim Seward is urging new farmers in the region to get the information about new state grants to assist in start up farms, or farms that are passed down to the next generation.

An open 911 call Thursday morning led to the arrest of a 22 year old James Garcia of Monroe, for felony Unlawful Imprisonment charge. Monroe is accused of being in a violent domestic incident with a passenger in his vehicle on State Highway 28 in the Towns of Delhi and Bovina, whee he allegedly was involved in 2 separate motor vehicle accidents, 1 of which led to the passenger sustaining injuries. Garcia is accused of threatening the victim with a weapon and restricting the victim’s movements and escape, then seizing and disposing of the victim’s cell phone. Garcia was charged with Unlawful Imprisonment, Menacing, Criminal Mischief & Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident. He was arraigned in the Town of Delhi Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility in lieu of $1000 cash bail pending a future court appearance and a Temporary Stay Away Order of Protection was issued.

13th District Broome County Legislator Anthony Fiala said he would not resign from office, he admitted to driving drunk & pleaded guilty earlier this month after he hit a bicyclist in Binghamton and left the scene. He is the son of Barbara Fiala, who now serves as state commissioner of the DMV.

A man accused of killing his neighbor in Johnson City more will go on trial. The trial for 43-year-old Christopher Davis will begin in Broome County Court Monday. He faces charges of 1st degree murder, 2 counts of 2nd degree murder and robbery. He’s accused of killing his neighbor, 50-year-old Patricia LaCaprara, during a robbery in July 2013, she was found dead in her home on Brown Street and as a result of traumatic head injuries.

Over the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend, State troopers conducted an underage drinker identification detail.  Troopers checked a total of 16 convenience stores in Broome County, all 16 businesses and sales clerks were found in compliance and no arrests were made.

Free 5-gallon pails of remixed exterior latex paint are now available to non-profit agencies and Otsego County residents.  The pain is available on a first come first serve basis, it was collected as part of the county’s annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day in September, it was re-mixed and packaged for distribution through the generosity of Golden Artist Colors of New Berlin.  More information is available by calling the Otsego County Planning Department at 547-4225.

State police at Oneonta arrested 21-year-old Travis Cole & 27-year-old Heather Cole of Oneonta for unlawful possession of marihuana.  The arrests occurred after a vehicle stop for loud exhaust on Orchard Street in Oneonta, a search of the vehicle and occupants found them to possess marihuana.  Both were issued tickets returnable to the Oneonta town court on December 10th.

A free electronic recycling event will be held at the Sidney library tomorrow from 9:30 to 3:30.  Residents can drop off their old electronics for recycling at the back entrance to the Smart community room.

The Chenango memorial hospital auxiliary will host ”Breakfast with Santa” tomorrow from 8:00 to 10:00 AM in the hospital cafeteria.  The event includes a full breakfast buffet and pictures with Santa, courtesy of NBT Bank; tickets are $5.00 at the door.

The Sidney Central School District Freshman Class is having a toy drive to help replace the Toys For Tots toys lost in the storage facility fire in Norwich last Friday.  School officials said that the freshman class decided to do the toy drive, as many remember that Roger Barnhart, the Toys for Tots coordinator, donated toys to kids who lost toys in the flooding.  Toys can be dropped off at the Sidney High School offices by Monday, December 9th.

U.S. Senator Charles Schumer is proposing cutting the excise tax on small breweries, to help them grow their businesses, hire new employees and revitalize communities. Schumer’s legislation would cut the excise tax on small breweries in half, from $7 to $3.50 per barrel for the first 60,000 barrels they brew per year.

The Supreme Court refused to consider throwing out New York State’s taxes on Internet purchases on websites like Amazon.com. The high court refused to hear appeals from Amazon.com LLC and Overstock.com, in their fight against a state law that forces them to remit sales tax the same way in-state businesses do. Amazon has been collecting sales tax in New York as it fights the state over a 2008 law that was the first to consider local affiliates enough of an in-state presence to require sales tax collection
