The Sidney Village Zoning Board will be holding a meeting tonight, regarding the plot of land near the Lutheran Church on West Main Street, for a variety of Housing, to replace those that are lost or will be lost in the River Street Area following the floods of 2006 & 2011. Tonight’s meeting will be held at the Sidney Civic Center at 7:00 PM & is open to the public.

New York State Police will have 15 new canine teams on patrols shortly. The Troopers & their canine partners graduated from a special program at the State Police Academy on Friday, 7 of the new teams will be assigned to New York City, the rest to Long Island & the upstate Troops.

Governor Cuomo announced that the state’s new $7.6 million Community Restoration Fund has purchased the mortgages for 398 homes in an effort to bring owners in targeted communities out of foreclosure and keep the homes from becoming “Zombie Properties”. The 398 homes in the program are in 33 of the State’s 62 counties, 7 of the homes are in the Southern Tier.

The Sidney American Legion will be hosting a fundraiser Saturday from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, to assist the Sidney Historical Association, as they are looking for a permanent building or space for their museum. The Greater Chenango Cares IRT Event continues at the Norwich High School, it started Friday & runs through July 24th. Chenango County United Way was able to get over 500 volunteers together to assist the military effort in providing the much needed dental, medical, eye care & Veterinary services for the region, according to spokesperson Elizabeth Monaco:

Col Erik Kirchen said that Medical personnel are not training for those fields, they are already fully accredited in their fields, they are training as part of their military commitments in case they are deployed because of their areas of expertise:

The event serviced 495 patients in the first 2/12 days, about 170 personnel are providing the services, and appointments are requested for dental or vision appointments at 337-4320. There is no cost for the services; there are no income, insurance or residency requirements. A similar IRT Event is also occurring through the 24th in neighboring Cortland County.

3 people were killed in a plane crashed in Esperance in Schoharie County Saturday evening. The FAA reported that the single-engine Piper PA-28 crashed about 6:45 p.m. Saturday in a heavily wooded area and was destroyed by fire. 1 person survived the crash & was taken to a burn unit. The plane was taking off from a small airport in the town of Esperance when it crashed about 1,000 feet from the facility. The investigation is continuing.

Local Police Agencies conducted an enhanced traffic safety enforcement campaign in the tri town area last Thursday. A total of 30 traffic summonses were issued for a variety of vehicle & traffic violations, there were also 7 arrests made for a variety o of charges including criminal l possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a controlled substance and failure to appear in court. The police agencies involved in the campaign were the Sidney Police Department, Delaware county Sheriff’s office, state Police & The Delaware County Probation department. Delaware county Undersherff Craig Dumond told WCDO News that these combined efforts make communities & highways a safer place to live, work & travel.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 45-year-old Christina Kruger of Masonville Thursday for aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, unlawful possession of marijuana and operating with an expired inspection certificate following a traffic stop on County Highway 23 in the Town of Sidney. Kruger was later arraigned & was released on her own recognizance, & will face action in Town of Sidney Court at a later date.

The 3rd annual “Delaware County Senior Fun Day” to be held at Delaware County 4H-Camp Shankitunk, in Delhi, on Wednesday, August 24th from 9:30am to 3:00pm. The event will again feature music, a variety of picnic foods & beverages. The event is open to seniors age 60 and over. Reservations are required as space is limited and need to be made by August 15th, at the Office for the Aging at 832-5750.

The 19th annual Delaware County Clean Sweep chemical disposal days are scheduled for September. County Solid Waste coordinator Sue McIntyre told WCDO News that online registration is already underway:

State Police arrested 37-year-old Jesse Henehan of Binghamton, for the felony Grand Larceny, for allegedly stealing property from a relative’s home on Walling Road in the Town of Colesville. Henehan is accused of taking over $1,700.00 worth of property, including an ATV, power tools, yard tools and other items. Henehan was arraigned in the Town of Colesville Court and released without bail.

State Police at Oneonta arrested 35 year old Kylee Minthorn of Schenectady for Driving While Impaired by Drugs, Resisting Arrest and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana. This arrest occurred after a vehicle and traffic law stop for speeding at 82 mph in a 65mph zone, on I-88. Minthorn was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Maryland on September 8,

The New York State Department of Labor today released preliminary local area unemployment rates for July 2015. Locally, Delaware county unemployment rate was 5.8%, Chenango County was at 5.2% and Otsego County had 5.3% unemployment in July. In addition, between June and July 2015, the state’s unemployment rate dropped 1/10th to 5.4%,.

Springbrook announced that Congressman Chris Gibson has been appointed to serve on their Board of Directors. Springbrook officials said that Congressman Gibson was formally elected to a 3-year term by Springbrook’s Board of Directors at the organization’s first board meeting of the 2016 fiscal year on Friday, August 14th.

The 2nd annual “Delaware County Senior Fun Day” will be held at Delaware County 4H-Camp Shankitunk in Delhi tomorrow from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The Delaware County Office for the Aging is collaborating with co-sponsors Delaware Opportunities and the Delaware County Senior Council. Shuttle buses will be operating all day from SUNY Delhi to and from the event. The event is open to seniors age 60 and over who registered this summer.
