State Police have arrested a 67-year-old Douglas Slater following a stabbing in the town of Conklin Sunday night. State Police responded to 663 Conklin Road to the report of a vicitm with a stab wound, and the fleeing of the suspect by car. Slater was spotted in a vehicle by Binghamton Police, he was charged with 1st Degree Assault & was remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail, the victim was transported to Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City where he underwent surgery.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 23-year-old Cheyenne Strong of Bainbridge on an arrest warrant issued by the Town of Davenport Court for Criminal Contempt. Strong allegedly violated an active order of protection & was arraigned in the Town of Walton Court and was released on her own recognizance. She is scheduled to return to the Davenport Town Court at a later date to answer the charges.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 31 year old Eduardo Torres Jr. of Walton for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a motor vehicle, following a traffic stop on State Highway 10 in the Town of Hamden. Deputies allege that Torres’s vehicle was stopped on a dangerous turn on State Highway 10, impeding traffic, and that he had his license suspended. Torres is scheduled to reappear in the Town of Hamden Court at a later date.

In the Southern Tier; Work will begin soon to make $3.8 million in safety upgrades at 123 locations, 48 sites this year & another 75 sites to be completed in the summer of 2019.

The contract to keep the Veterans Affairs Clinic on State Route 7 in Bainbridge will expire at the end of the year, they see between 75 to 100 Veterans a day, and are scheduled to get a 2nd doctor to serve their, yet the facility may be moved to Oneonta. State DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos announced $4 million in grant funding for generators of excess wholesome food and food scraps to expand their capacity to donate it to organic recycling facilities. An estimated 40% of the food produced in the United States goes uneaten while about 2.5 million New Yorkers go hungry. Seggos said that much of the wasted food is disposed of in solid waste landfills where its decomposition accounts for more than 15% of emissions of methane, which is a potent greenhouse gas. A Chenango County jury found Jeremy Coates of Norwich guilty of the murder of David Green in Oxford in 2016. Coates and his girlfriend Melissa Crispell robbed Green, Coates beating him 20 times with various weapons, Crispell pleaded guilty to robbery last May, in a plea deal in exchange for her testimony against Coates, Sentencing for Coates is scheduled for June 1st.

State Police arrested 22 year old Kody Kemp of Friendsville Pennsylvania for Criminal Possession of a Weapon & Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & 30 year old Scott Maxey of Montrose Pennsylvania for Criminal Possession of a Weapon, after Troopers observed their vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Colesville Road in the town of Kirkwood. Troopers located a loaded gun in the vehicle and drug paraphernalia. Both were remanded to the Broome County Jail pending future court action.

Otsego County has received more than $842,000 in grants for improvements to emergency and public safety communications infrastructure and equipment. The $684,650 award will be used to complete 3 tower sites needed to complete the emergency services telecommunications project, the 2nd grant totaling over $157,000 will add a dispatcher position, and an alarm systems at tower sites.

The State Department of Labor today released preliminary unemployment rates for January. The State’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was unchanged at 4.7% in January, Locally, Chenango County had 7.1% unemployment, Delaware County 7.3% & Otsego County had 6.6% unemployment.


State Police at Sidney arrested 32 year old Dasheem Street of Utica, for Criminal Possession of Marijuana, after Street was observed traveling at a high rate of speed on State Highway 8 in the town of Guilford. Street was arraigned and released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to re-appear in the town of Guilford Court on March 13, 2018.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a 17 year old youth of Hamden, New York on charges of Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana. The youth was also cited for no headlamps. This arrest stemmed from a traffic stop on Stockton Avenue in the Village of Walton. Deputies were assisted by the Village of Walton Police Department.
