The City of Norwich Local Planning Committee held their first ZOOM Meeting yesterday afternoon regarding the 10 Million Dollar Downtown Revitalization Initiative Grant Award, Commerce Chenango President & CEO Kerri Green told WCDO about how quick this process is expected to move:

The State Police are out all over the state this week looking to recruit people to become part of the New York State Police Family. Troop C Commanding officer Jeffrey VanAuken was in Kirkwood today, he told WCDO News that the process to join is easier than ever:

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 36 year old Nicholas Simonds of Oxford for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia.  Simonds was found to be in Possession of a large quantity of heroin, while also possessing several items that indicated that Simonds was distributing narcotics.  Simonds was arraigned in the Town of Oxford Court and released on his own recognizance, he will appear in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.

State and local law enforcement agencies across New York will be stepping up patrols and targeting impaired driving during the Super Bowl weekend. The enforcement campaign will run from Friday through Monday. During the 2021 campaign, law enforcement throughout the state issued 26,127 tickets for vehicle and traffic law violations, including 846 arrests for DWI

A.M. NEWS THURSDAY 2-10-22

State Police charged 61 year old Douglas Webb of Sherburne for Offering a False Instrument for Filing & Falsifying Business Records. Webb, who was a bus driver at the Sherburne-Earlville School District, was initially arrested last week by State Police for Forcible Touching and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, the investigation revealed that on his application to become a school bus driver, Webb failed to disclose that he had a previous conviction on a charge of sexual abuse. Webb was released on appearance tickets to the Sherburne Village Court on February 17th.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced the end of the indoor mask mandate in New York State effective today. Previously, the state had required masks to be worn inside businesses where vaccination status was not being checked. The mandate will remain in effect at homeless shelters, healthcare centers, state-run nursing homes, schools and childcare centers, and correctional facilities. Statewide COVID-19 Cases Down 93% Since January 7th Peak, the COVID-19 Hospitalizations is down 63% since the peak on January 12th, the positivity rate for COVID 19 tests decreased to 3.67% on Tuesday

Pfizer 1st or 2nd doses will be available from 1:00 to 2:00 PM for walk-ins only. UHS hospitals announced that they are temporarily suspending visitation for all areas of Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City, Binghamton General Hospital and all UHS Primary & Specialty Care locations in the greater Binghamton region. UHS officials announced that the temporary suspension is due to the unprecedented outbreak of COVID-19, more information about the exceptions is available at nyuhs.org.

The Village of Sidney is beginning to gather the community’s ideas for reusing publicly owned land near the Susquehanna River. Sidney is 1 of 2 communities Statewide to receive support from The Nature Conservancy, Sidney Grants Manager Clarissa Walrath said that the village received a $60,000 grant to deal with flood mitigation issues:

Walrath said that after the surveys are out to the public, a planned workshop on Thursday, November 11 at 5:30 PM, the meeting will focus on community’s vision for types of outdoor amenities that would enhance the Village, it will be held as an online Zoom meeting. The latest federal figures from the CDC show almost 2/3rds of New Yorkers are fully vaccinated against COVID 19. About 12.7 million of New York’s 19 million residents are fully vaccinated, Locally County Heath Departments have reported between 50 & 60% vaccination rates.

Nasir Azmat of Franklin accepted a plea deal Friday in the Town of Sidney court, he pleaded guilty to overdriving, torturing, and injuring animals. Azmat was sentenced to 60 days in jail followed by 3 years of probation; he cannot own, possess or register animals during the 3 year probation. Azmat will also be placed on the Delaware County Animal Abuse Registry. Azmat was charged in February 2020 after Delaware County Sheriff’s Office found 20 dogs in deplorable conditions on Azmat’s property, the dog were allegedly used for dog-fighting.

Delaware County Public Health reported 1 more COVID death, 39 new positive cases, 11 hospitalized & 311 Quarantined, for Thursday & Friday of last week. The County positivity rate remains at 8.46%. Delaware County has had 60 deaths since the start of the pandemic. The county has had 51% of residents fully vaccinated.

The State Health Department tested over 208,000 Saturday for COVID 19, with over 4200 testing positive, which was just about 2% of all tested. Patient Hospitalizations are down to 2,086, Patients in an ICU bed was down to 450, & the number on Ventilators was down to 247, new deaths was 36 on Saturday.
