On Sunday, New York State extended the Executive Order to continue to maximize the resources available to protect New Yorkers against polio through vaccination. So far. Only 1 case of polio has been identified, but ongoing wastewater surveillance provides evidence of repeated polio-virus detections in sewage samples throughout the state. The latest wastewater results in Brooklyn & Queens, tested by CDC, found samples genetically linked to the case original case in Rockland County. Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 40 year old Christopher Lacey of Downsville for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, following an investigation into a motor vehicle accident on October 5^th on River Road in the Town of Colchester. Deputies reported that the driver left the scene, Walton Police located Lacey, who’s driving privileges were revoked for refusing to submit to a chemical test. Lacey was issued an appearance ticket for the Town of Colchester Court at a later date.

Sidney SSAD program & Catholic Charities are teaming up again this year for a 5K/10K Walk run and the Color run, Sidney SSAD coordinator Jonathon Yurka explains that the event is back after a it was suspended due to the pandemic:

The 2022 New York State Fallen Firefighters Memorial Ceremony will honor 11 firefighters who gave their lives in the line of duty. The Memorial was dedicated in 1998, to honor fallen firefighters every year in October, it also pays tribute to the more than 100,000 New York State active firefighters who risk their lives every day to protect New Yorkers. Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado will deliver remarks at this mornings memorial, starting at 11:00 AM in Albany.

52 year old Michael Slack of Otego has been charged with making a terroristic threat, Menacing, criminal possession of a weapon, & Harassment, following the report of a domestic dispute Tuesday. Slack is accused of making terroristic threats about government officials, & threatening a victim with a rifle; he was arraigned & was remanded to the Otsego County jail on $25,000 cash or $50,000 bond.

The City of Oneonta Department of Public Service announced this year’s schedule for curbside residential brush and yard waste pick-up. Those living in wards 1-4 will be have their yard waste picked up on Monday April 16th, those in wards 5-8 will be picked up the following Monday, April 23rd. Residents should have brush and yard waste out no sooner than the weekend before the scheduled pick-up to prevent possible code violation. Brush pick up will continue through the end of November.

State Police released more details about the death of Whitesboro Police Officer Kevin Crossley, who was killed Wednesday night when his patrol car collided with a pickup truck driven by 26-year old Nicole Moshier-Harris of Whitesboro. Investigators reported that there is no indication that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. Officer Crossley was a full-time member of the Whitesboro Police Department for 7 years, he was 34 years old.

The Delaware County Historical Association will feature Kurt Reigel, who owns & is restoring the Andrew Mann Inn on State Route 7 Riverside Sidney. The presentation will begin at 2:00 pm Saturday regarding the building that was built in 1787; it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Howie Hawkins of Syracuse announced today that he is running for Governor to demand more progressive reforms and system change. Hawkins finished 3rd in the 2014 Gubernatorial race. His 184,419 votes moved the Green Party up to the 4th line among ballot qualified parties.

Afton’s 2nd Annual Chili Cook Off Challenge will be held tomorrow from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The event will be held at the Afton Town Hall, proceeds will benefit the Afton Community Park Fund.

The 20th annual SADD “Strides for Safety” 5K will be held Sunday in Oneonta. Students will run, or walk from upper East Street to the Oneonta High School, money raised will go to facilitate activities that promote drug- and alcohol-free lifestyles, for teenagers.

State Police CNET arrested 36 year old Matthew Mazepa of Harpursville, in the City of Binghamton on active felony bench warrants from Chenango County Court. Mazepa was found to be in possession of an assault rifle, crystal methamphetamine, cocaine, crack cocaine, marihuana, ammunition and drug paraphernalia. Mazepa was charged with Criminal Possession Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Tampering with physical evidence, Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia & Resisting Arrest, he was arraigned and remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail.

State Police arrested a 21-year-old man following a domestic incident. Joshua Backus of Greene was charged with 2nd degree Burglary, Criminal Possession of a Stimulant, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, 4 counts of Menacing and Harassment and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana. Troopers were called to a residence in the Town of Oxford to investigate a domestic dispute; Backus pushed 2 subjects and threatened them with a hammer, pointed a gun at them and attempted to hit them with his vehicle. Troopers observed Backus drive by the residence, he was arrested, arraigned and was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $40,000 cash bail or $80,000 bond pending Grand Jury action on April 18th.

Erin Collier of Cooperstown, who is a candidate for Congress in New York’s 19th district, announced today that she has qualified to be on the ballot for the Democratic Primary on June 26th. Collier’s campaign filed over 2,700 signatures in support of her candidacy with the State Board of Elections, more than double the required number of signatures.

Binghamton police are investigating the shooting of 40 year old Grady Hunter on Sunday, Hunter was hospitalized with life threatening injuries, Police reported that Hunter was sitting in his car outside a Deli at 121 Susquehanna Street at around 12:00 Noon Sunday. A suspect has been taken into custody today, anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call detectives at 772-7080.

5 people died & 1 was critically injured in a house fire on State Route 145 in East Durham early Monday Morning. Nicholas and Mary Mammano, & their 3 grandchildren died, John Mammano was taken to an area hospital for treatment of injuries. The cause of the fire was under investigation, and Autopsies have been ordered to determine the cause of death.

U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer visited Awestruck Ciders in Sidney this afternoon; he is calling on the Alcohol & Tobacco Tax Trade bureau to reverse a provision that would get in the way of the growth of Awestruck & Other Cideries.

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration announced that the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York entered a consent decree of permanent injunction against Vulto Creamery or Walton. The defendants cannot prepare, process, manufacture, pack and/or hold FDA-regulated food products until they can ensure that Listeria is not present in their facility and their food. Vulto Creameries products were linked to a multi-state outbreak of Listeria in their cheese products, 2 people died & 8 were hospitalized after consuming the products contaminated by Listeria.

Governor Cuomo announced more than 60 new farms & businesses have received research permits under the State’s Industrial Hemp Agricultural Research Pilot program, many of those are located in the Southern Tier. The State has invested more than $4.6 billion in the region since 2012 to lay for groundwork for the plan to expand Hemp production.

The Copes Corners Park Spring Fest committee for the Town of Butternuts is soliciting craft, artist, product, and general vendors for its 4th annual Spring Fest. Delaware County Public Health is holding a “Medical Countermeasures” drill today to practice and test the ability to dispense large amounts of medicine in the event of a public health threat such as a disease outbreak or bioterrorism threat to the community. The public is invited to attend the drill & participate, there is no pre-registration required. No medications are actually being dispensed. Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro is expected to reverse course & will launch his campaign for governor after all. Molinaro said in January that he wouldn’t run, but he said that “outpouring” from supporters made him change his plans, he will face State Senator John DeFrancisco for the Republican party Nomination in the primary later this year.

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies invite fans to their annual Meet the Rumble Ponies Dinner on Tonight at the Holiday Inn in Downtown Binghamton. Tickets are on sale, at the Box Office at NYSEG Stadium. Rumble Ponies players will arrive at 5:30 PM for the “Meet the Rumble Ponies” autograph reception.
