44 of New York State’s 62 counties are already reporting cases of the flu, according to the state Health department. Health officials encourage New Yorkers to get the flu vaccine, with the flu starting a little earlier than normal, and especially as high rates of COVID 19 are still being reported statewide. Southern Tier counties are sill reporting an 8.35% COVID 19 positivity rate, more information about the flu, COVID 19 % other healthcare issues can be found at health.ny.gov.

New York Attorney General Letitia James took action today to maintain the Concealed Carry Improvement Act, after a federal judge granted a temporary restraining order last week. James said that the Act was passed by the State Legislature and was enacted this summer, with requirements for concealed carry permits, prohibits guns in sensitive places, requires individuals with concealed carry permits to request a property owner’s consent to carry on their premises, enhances safe storage requirements, requires social media review ahead of certain gun purchases, and requires background checks on all ammunition purchases.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 42 year old Kory Minshall of Burlington Flats in Morris October 1st. Minshall was pulled over and was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance for Methamphetamines, Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Operating a Motor Vehicle without Insurance, along with several other similar charges, he was also wanted on an active warrant out of Otsego County Family Court and had a suspended driver’s license. Minshall is being held in the Otsego County Jail on the Family Court warrant. He will appear in the Town of Morris Court on a later date.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 21 year old Dylan Rulison of Johnstown, following an investigation of a motor vehicle accident with a stolen vehicle in Montgomery County. Rulison was arrested by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office on several charges, the vehicle had been stolen from the Town of Worcester, he was charged in Otsego County with Grand Larceny and Unauthorized use of a Motor Vehicle, he was released & will appear in the Town of Worcester Court on October 11th.

2 teenager were shot outside of the home of Congressman and Republican candidate for governor Lee Zeldin, in Shirley in Suffolk County Sunday afternoon. The 2 teenage boys were taken to area hospitals, they had been walking with a third teenager when they were hit by gunfire from a moving car. The wounded teens hid under his porch and into the bushes, while the 3rd person fled the scene. Zeldin & his wife were in the Bronx campaigning at the time of the shooting, their teenage daughters locked themselves inside & called police

The Otsego County District Attorney’s office is investigating the death of an infant in Laurens last Tuesday. An autopsy will be conducted, the investigation is continuing.

The State DEC issued an update on drought conditions across the state. The State’s Drought Management Task Force updated the drought status to “Normal” from “Drought Watch” for multiple regions including most of upstate New York because of recent rainfall and higher levels of ground and surface water. The following counties will return to Normal designations: Broome, Chenango, Delaware & Otsego Counties locally.

The 2022 New York State Fallen Firefighters Memorial Ceremony will honor 11 firefighters Tuesday in Albany, who gave their lives in the line of duty. With the addition of these 11 names, the Memorial will honor 2,631 individuals who lost their lives in the line of duty.

State Police responded Thursday Morning to a 2-vehicle-crash on State Route 23 in the town of Roxbury. One person was pronounced deceased at the scene. The investigation revealed that a 79-year-old woman was traveling east on State Route 23 when she crossed over the double yellow line into the opposite lane of traffic, she struck a Curtis Lumber flatbed truck, which unsuccessfully attempted to avoid the crash. The woman was pronounced deceased on scene, her name will be released following the notification of family, The driver of the flatbed was taken to Bassett Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing.

Rochester police officer Anthony Mazurkiewicz was killed and Officer Sino Seng was injured in an ambush shooting Thursday night. Mazurkiewicz was a 29-year veteran of the Rochester Police Department, he was patrolling with Officer Seng when a male approached them and opened fire. Seng was shot in the lower body and is expected to survive, a woman who witnessed the attack was also shot and was injured with non-life-threatening injuries, the investigation is continuing.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced $387 million is being delivered to 1,452 local governments across the New York State to help boost their pandemic response infrastructure. The announcement is part of the State’s ongoing preparation efforts to tackle any potential pandemic-related surges this fall and winter. This financial backing is made possible by the Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery Fund, part of the American Rescue Plan Act, which provides relief for smaller local governments who have shared in the public health response. The amount local governments will receive is available at budget.ny.gov.

Gill joins the Black Bears after being the head coach and general manager of the Vermont Lumberjacks in the Eastern Hockey League. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrested 43-year-old David Jakubonis of Fairport for 2nd Degree Attempted assault, he was processed & released in his own recognizance, Zeldin was not injured.

Village of Delhi Police Department arrested 29-year-old Carmine Yonnone of Delhi for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Hypodermic Instrument and several traffic violations. Yonnone was issued appearance and traffic tickets returnable to the Delhi Town Court. Yonnone was turned over to the Oneonta Police Department on an Arrest Warrant issued by the City of Oneonta Court.

Former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino throwing his hat in the ring for the party’s nomination, as he makes another attempt to run for Governor.  Astorino ran for governor in 2014, losing by a large margin to Andrew Cuomo.  Astorino is the 3rd Republican to announce a run for Governor in 2022; the others are Long Island Congressman Lee Zeldin and Lewis County Sheriff Mike Carpinelli.

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand introduced legislation to permanently implement a Universal School Meals program, which would provide free school meals for all students:

Currently the United States Department of Agriculture provides free schools meals through COVID-19 waivers through the 2021-2022 school year only.  Gillibrand said that her legislation would also encourage the use of local foods in school meal programs, Gillibrand is pushing for the inclusion of the Universal School Meals Program Act of 2021 in the upcoming Child Nutrition Reauthorization currently being negotiated by the Senate Agriculture Committee, and Senator Gillibrand is a member of that Committee.

The State Health Department reported a 1.1% COVID test positivity rate for Tuesday, with Hospitalization, ICU Patients & patients on Ventilators at the lowest levels since last November.

Governor Cuomo today signed legislation extending a moratorium that prevents utility companies from disconnecting utilities to residential households and small businesses that are struggling with their bills due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The moratorium is extended for a period of 180 days after the COVID-19 state of emergency is lifted or 180 days after December 31st.
