Delaware County Public Health reported that they are now up to 78 deaths from the COVID 19 virus pandemic. From Saturday through Monday, the County reported 105 new cases, 411 active cases with 22 hospitalized and 348 quarantined, and their positivity rate was over 15%. 53.7% of Delaware County Residents are vaccinated, 85% of active cases were not vaccinated.

George Wang of Lawrence Kansas was sentenced in Otsego County Court Monday, to go to a state run Psychiatric Center for the treatment of a mental disease. Wang was originally charged with Attempted Murder after the car he was driving veered off of State Route 28 in Hartwick on November 18th of 2020, striking a pedestrian in a parking lot, and then left the scene. Wang pleaded not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect recently, he will stay in a facility until he is deemed to be not a danger to himself or the public.

Local Lawmakers gathered in Binghamton yesterday to continue to state their opposition to the controversial Bail Reform laws put into place by Former Governor Cuomo almost 2 years ago. The latest Siena College Poll has Governor Kathy Hochul with a big lead over her Democratic challengers in the 2022 gubernatorial race. Hochul had 36%, followed by Attorney General Letitia James with 18%, New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams with 10% and Congressman Tom Suozzi with 6%, tied with New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, who is considering a bid for governor.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced the detection of 4 more confirmed cases of the COVID-19 Omicron variant in New York State, for a total of 12. 2 of the new cases are from Suffolk County and 2 are from Oneida County. Starting Today, all further Omicron updates will be included in the Governor’s daily COVID-19 progress update press release. Governor Kathy Hochul announced that New York State is the first state in the nation to receive U.S. Department of the Treasury’s approval to launch its Homeowner Assistance Fund, a program that will provide up to $539 million to help eligible homeowners avert mortgage delinquency, default, foreclosure, and displacement. UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital’s Sidney office on Pearl Street, will host a Pfizer vaccination Clinic this Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Delhi Village Police responded on May 8th for a report of a person passed out behind the wheel of a running motor vehicle, Police found 3 people who all appeared to be suffering from an opioid overdose. They were taken to O’Connor Hospital for treatment. Police discovered of a small amount of heroin in the vehicle; resulting in the arrests of 60-year-old Ronald Alston of Portlandville, 69-year-old Charles David Jr. of Delhi & 67-year-old Thaddeus David of Portlandville on drug charges, all 3 were released with appearance tickets returnable to the Delhi Town Court.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum announced expanded summer hours beginning this Sunday, from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM through Sunday of the Labor Day weekend. Governor Cuomo announced that, based on current COVID trajectory, all New York State schools will reopen for full in-person learning for the 2021-2022 school year beginning in September. The Governor said that if there is a change in the trajectory of the virus, they will revisit this decision.

The Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee joined with law enforcement to announce the kickoff of the annual “Buckle Up New York, Click it or Ticket” campaign. A Chenango County jury found Jeremy Coates of Norwich guilty of the murder of David Green in Oxford in 2016. Coates and his girlfriend Melissa Crispell robbed Green, Coates beating him 20 times with various weapons, Crispell pleaded guilty to robbery last May, in a plea deal in exchange for her testimony against Coates, Sentencing for Coates is scheduled for June 1st.

Delaware County Sheriff Deputy’s arrested 37 year old Benjamin Pankiewicz & 31 year old Ashlee Calabrese of Walton for Attempted Assault after they had engaged in a physical altercation with one another. Pankiewicz was also arrested for Endangering the Welfare of a Child, as the altercation occurred while a child was present. Calabrese was issued an appearance ticket, having to appear in the Town of Walton Court at a later date. Pankiewicz was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility in lieu of $500 cash or $1,000 secured bond.

The City of Oneonta Department of Public Service announced this year’s schedule for curbside residential brush and yard waste pick-up. City residents wards 1 through 4 will be picked up on Monday April 16th, those living in wards 5 to 8 will be picked up the following Monday, April 23rd. State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced criminal convictions and a civil resolution against Broome County trash collection firms, Bert Adams Disposal and Taylor Garbage Service. The 2 companies conspired to rig bids, allocate customers, and fix prices for trash and recycling services, which forced residents and businesses to pay artificially inflated prices for essential services, they also colluded on bidding for municipal contracts. As part of Bert Adams Disposal’s guilty plea, it will be required to pay $850,000 in criminal penalties. Taylor Garbage Service, Inc. will pay $500,000 in civil penalties, and Robert Taylor, the company’s president and co-owner, will also pay a $50,000 penalty to New York State.

Governor Cuomo announced that the State Department of Health has issued a health advisory to hospitals, emergency departments and urgent care centers following severe and life-threatening bleeding cases in Illinois, Maryland, Wisconsin, Indiana and Missouri, due to the consumption of synthetic marijuana believed to be contaminated with rat poison. To date, no cases have been reported in New York State. Synthetic marijuana is sold with street names such as K2, Spice and AK-47, which consists of plant material coated by chemicals, which are supposed to mimic the effects of naturally grown marijuana.
