Senator Seward voted against the NY-SAFE act and is supporting legislation to repeal the law.  Seward said that he supports laws to crack down on those who obtain guns illegally and commit crimes with firearms and he supports regulations to prevent the dangerously mentally ill access to guns.

Oneonta city police arrested 27-year-old Heather Ferris of Schenevus on charges of 2nd degree attempted assault, and endangering the welfare of a child, for allegedly striking a 5 year old student on an Oneonta school district bus with a buckle Thursday morning.  Ferris was fired after the incident by the Birnie Bus Company, which is contracted to provide bus service for the Oneonta city school district.  The investigation is continuing.

The Planned Parenthood of South Central New York has changed its name the Family Planning Center of South Central New York, effective today.  CEO Deb Marcus explains:

Marcus sad that the centers mentioned served over 10,000 clients last year regarding women’s health issues such as gynecological exams, sexual education, and HIV testing.

State Troopers arrested 23-year-old Deanna Olmstead of Windsor for Driving While Intoxicated with a BAC of .19%. The arrest was the result of a motor vehicle accident on State Route 17; Olmstead was issued traffic tickets returnable to the Town of Kirkwood Court on March 7th.

The Delaware County Sheriffs Deputies were called to a 1 Car Personal Injury automobile accident on Road Thirteen in the Town of Sidney. 52-year-old Niki Frantzis of Sidney was traveling south on Road 13 when she lost control and struck an earth embankment. Frantzis & an unidentified passenger were taken to Tri-Town Hospital in Sidney; Frantzis was issued a summons for speed unreasonable for road conditions.

24 people will be inducted into the Section 4 Hall of fame tomorrow, included in that group, as a contributor is WCDO’s own sportscaster Greg Davie, who has broadcast sports since the early days of WCDO in the 80’s.  The inductions will take place tomorrow afternoon at the Broome County Arena at about 3:00 PM.

The deadline to submit a comment regarding hydraulic fracturing returning to New York, ended Friday afternoon oat 5:00 PM.  Thousands of comments were submitted over the course of the DEC accepting comments over the last few year’s, they may render their decision on hydraulic fracturing by February 27th.

Delaware County Public Health will be holding a Flu clinic on Monday, January 21, 2013 from 1:00 PM-2: 30PM by appointment only, at Delaware County Public Health, 99 Main St, Delhi, NY 13753.  Public Health has a limited supply of Flu vaccine for ages 3 and up, the cost of the vaccine is $25.00, and insurances will not be billed.  To make an appointment for the flu shot people must call Delaware County Public Health at 607-832-5200.  More information is available at the State Health Department website at: health.ny.gov/diseases

Commerce Chenango announced that Development Chenango Corporation has been awarded $250,000 to establish a Main Street Grant Program in the Village of New Berlin.  New Berlin Mayor Terry Potter commented:

The funding from the New York State Office of Community Renewal will leverage an additional $84,000 from the owners of the 6 downtown buildings that will be renovated.   4 other Chenango county projects were also funded Sunrise Family Farms in Greene; the Village of Greene to conduct a sewer collection engineering study; DCMO BOCES & Golden Artist Colors.

State Police at Oneonta arrested 22-year-old Koby Marble of Oneonta for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs. The arrest resulted from a DWI road check in Oneonta, Marble was issued tickets returnable in the Town of Oneonta Court on February 2nd.

State DMV Commissioner Barbara Fiala will deliver Governor Cuomo’s State of the State address in Norwich tomorrow.   The presentation will be held at the SUNY Morrisville Norwich Campus at 20 Conkey Avenue beginning at 11:00 AM.  RSVP is required at 721-8605.

State Police at Sidney arrested 21 year old Michael Brady of Long Beach and 20 year old Jeremiah O’Brien of Wantagh for Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. The arrest resulted from a traffic stop on Interstate 88 in Sidney, Both were issued Appearance Tickets returnable in the Town of Sidney Court on February 14th.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies investigated a one-car motor vehicle accident that occurred on State Highway 17.  24 year old  Sarah Stenuf of East Syracuse was traveling east when her vehicle left the roadway and struck the guide rail, she was transported to Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris to be evaluated and was released.

NYSEG is beginning a new round of stray voltage testing their service area, it involves hundreds of thousands of pieces of equipment from transmission, distribution, streetlight poles and traffic signals to substation fences, pad-mounted transformers and manhole covers.  Stray voltage is an electric current in the earth, or in ground water, resulting from the grounding of electrical equipment or an electrical distribution system. This testing is required by the New York State Public Service Commission.
