Mills went missing yesterday afternoon, he was located shortly after 7:00 AM this by Security staff in the parking lot at Tioga Downs. Mills was reportedly conscious alert, weak, and wet, he is being checked out by medical professionals.

New York State Criminal Justice Services announced that an elderly man with dementia is missing in the southern tier.  77-year-old Edward Mills is missing from Nichols since yesterday afternoon , he is described as a white male, 6 feet tall, about 200 pounds, with gray hair.  Mills was last seen on walking in  Nichols, he walks hunched over and was wearing a straw hat, blue jacket, khaki pants, brown shoes, and a blue shirt with maroon stripes, he has a full white beard and large black frame glasses. He may be in need of medical attention. Anyone with information is advised to contact their local law enforcement agency.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced that his office would sponsor a gun buy-back in Utica on Saturday, as part of a new statewide program. The Attorney General’s Office will be accepting working and non-working, unloaded weapons in exchange for compensation on site. This Saturday’s gun buyback will take place at the Utica Memorial Auditorium, from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM.  Other gun buybacks will take place in Binghamton,  Poughkeepsie, Yonkers, and the Buffalo region in the coming weeks.

New York State continues to look into alternative energy systems, one that continues to be studied is Solar Energy.  Assemblyman Pete Lopez said that the initial cost might be prohibitive for some:

Another issue is available sunlight, as a 2009 state study shows that most sections of the state could use solar energy successfully, except for the southern tier, which failed to get a high enough percentage of sunlight.  The study suggests that Solar could be used as a 2nd energy source behind other traditional methods.

The Norwich School District will conduct an “early dismissal drill” today, consistent with the District’s Emergency and Disaster Management Plan and Regulations of the Commissioner of Education.  High School/Middle School will be dismissed at 1:55 p.m.  Perry Browne will be dismissed at 2:45 p.m.  Stanford Gibson will be dismissed at 3:00 p.m.   Latchkey will not be available today, parents should plan for alternative childcare arrangements this afternoon.

The American Red Cross urges people who have not yet gotten a flu vaccine to get vaccinated now due to widespread flu activity across the country. The flu has been reported in 41 include New York, & the centers for disease control recommends a yearly flu vaccine for everyone 6 months of age and older.    More information is available on redcross.org.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies investigated a one-car motor vehicle accident on Rathbun Road in the Town of Meredith.  84-year-old Edward Mills of West Davenport slid on the snow covered shoulder of the road and entered a ditch causing the car to flip on its right side.  Mills was not hurt in the accident & No tickets were issued.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies investigated a one-car motor vehicle accident that occurred on Meredith Street in the Village of Delhi.  28-year-old Justin Nilsson of Delhi was traveling south on Meredith St. when he lost control of his vehicle on the snow covered road and slid into an embankment.  Nilsson was not hurt in the accident.  No tickets were issued.

The Chenango County Sheriffs Office arrested two Smyrna residents and one Norwich resident for 6th degree Conspiracy & Petit Larceny.  Charged were 18-year-old Tyler Campbell, 18-year-old Tiffany Robbins and 18-year-old Deanna Kirwin for allegedly stealing items from the Norwich Wal-Mart store.  Campbell, Robbins and Kirwin were issued appearance tickets and ordered to appear before the Town of Norwich Court on January 17th.

The Chenango county sheriffs department arrested 25-year-old Andrew Scheiner of Richmondville on an active family court warrant for failure to obey a child support order.  Scheiner was taken into custody and was taken to the Chenango county jail without incident, he will be held for 15 days or until a $100 purge is paid.
