The Broome County Sheriff’s Office announced that Scammers are impersonating Sheriff’s detectives and deputies in an effort to solicit money and gift cards from unsuspecting victims. Residents are reminded not to provide credit card or other payment information over the phone to anyone claiming to be law enforcement. The Broome County Sheriff’s Office has received several new reports from residents who received phone calls from individuals pretending to be detectives or deputies of the BCSO. where the scammers claim that the Residents missed their court appearances and were threatened with warrants for arrest or thousands of dollars in fines. Residents are urged to terminate the call and not share any credit card information over the phone, no matter what the scammer says. if you receive a scam phone call, please contact the Sheriff’s Office at 607-778-1911.

Assemblyman Joseph Angelino will unveil the signage for the newly named 1st Lieutenant Stephen Doane Bridge spanning the West Branch of the Delaware River in Walton, Doane’s actions saved the lives of his fellow soldiers at the cost of his own life. The unveiling will be at the Walton Veterans Plaza at 171 Delaware Street in Walton on Thursday, July 13th, at 11:00 am.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested of 32 year old Darin Wignall of Binghamton, On the morning of June 29th, Deputies initiated a traffic stop on State Highway 17 in the Town of Hancock, Wignall was found to have been operating a motor vehicle on a public highway while his driver’s license had been suspended 14 times. Wignall was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a motor vehicle & Uninspected Motor Vehicle, he was released with an appearance ticket for Town of Hancock Court at a later date.

The State Health Department announced that the state is up to 379,482 Coronavirus cases since early March, with 683 new positives Monday out of almost 50,000 tests.  24,348 people have died from the virus since the pandemic hit in New Rochelle 3 1/2 months ago.

Chenango County Public Health announced that they have had 135 positive cases of the Coronavirus, 81 are quarantined, 1 person is hospitalized, 103 have recovered, and 5 have died they have conducted over 6200 tests.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 57 year old Jonathan Hatch of Cobleskill for 2 counts of DWI plus endangering the welfare of a child.  Hatch is accused of leaving 2 children at Glimmerglass State Park, after they refused to get in his vehicle.  Hatch was arraigned, an order of protection was issued & the children were turned over family.

1st Responders & volunteers searched for about 3 hours Monday at Nathaniel Cole Park to look for 75 year old Kathleen Walsh of Harpursville.  Family members called police after Walsh failed to come home after hiking in Cole Park, she suffers from dementia & became disoriented, and she did leave the park successfully last night.

The Broome County Health Department announced that they were still at 600 total coronavirus cases today, they report 1 death, giving them a total of 46, there have been 490 recoveries & 223 are being monitored by the Health Department.

Governor Cuomo signed legislation authorizing local governments to extend the deadline for filing property tax abatements to July 15th in recognition of the hardships many families and businesses continue to face as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

State Police are warning residents of a phone scam that has targets elderly residents.  Troopers reported that scammers have called identifying themselves as a police officer or court officer with a story that a relative was stopped by law enforcement and found in possession of drugs and a large amount of Bail has been set.  The caller has told the victims to money into a box outside their home and that it will be retrieved by an alleged court officer or by a courier service.  State Police reminds residents that no police agency or court will ever ask for money to be sent by mail, courier service or picked up from your home, if you feel you have been scammed, call a law enforcement agency.

Delaware County is reporting 1 new case of COVID-19, there have been 78 confirmed positive cases, with 16 people under quarantine, 2 of the cases are isolated in the hospital, 6 are isolated at home, 5 people have died and 65 have fully recovered.

Governor Cuomo today announced that $13.1 million has been awarded for 42 agricultural water quality conservation projects across the state, benefiting over 120 farms. The funding is provided to 25 County Soil and Water Conservation Districts through the Agricultural Nonpoint Source Abatement and Control Program, it supports projects that allow farmers to address water quality challenges in priority watersheds. 19th congressional district democratic party candidate Zephyr Teachout reported that in the second quarterly fundraising period that runs from April 1-June 30th, she received 69,704 contributions from 43,037 donors, at an average of $15.91, raising a total of $1,109,121.55 in that quarter. In total, Teachout raised $1,639,854.30 since she kicked off her campaign in January. The full filing will be publicly available on July 15th at www.fec.gov. Teachout faces Republican John Faso to replace Chris Gibson in the 19th Congressional district in the November General Election.

Norwich Police arrested 36 year old Gregory Huzinec of Norwich for 1st degree robbery, 2nd degree kidnapping, 1st degree burglary, & 2nd degree assault, for allegedly breaking into a Norwich residence on July 7th, forcibly stealing property, displaying a weapon, attacking a person, and causing injuries to a person. He was arraigned in the Norwich City Court & was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 Bond pending future court action today. Additional charges are pending.

Over 2 ½ inches of heavy rain, led to areas of Flash flooding in Otsego County last night.  Officials reported water over sections of Main & chestnut streets in Oneonta last night, the Otsego county sheriff’s departments reported that County Highway 31 was closed between Cooperstown and Glimmerglass State Park, and County Route 11C was closed between Route 28 and County Highway 33.

Following a 6 month investigation into the illegal sale of Heroin, Cocaine, Mushrooms and Prescription Narcotics, the SIDNEY POLICE DEPARTMENT Arrested 39 year old James Martin of Sidney, for 3rd degree Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance.  Martin was arraigned at Delaware County Court on sealed Indictments and remanded to Delaware County Jail on $10,000 cash bail and $20,000 bond pending further court action.

The SIDNEY POLICE DEPARTMENT arrested 30-year-old HERBERT BIDWELL JR, of Sidney, for 2 counts of Falsifying Business Records and 2 counts of Petty Larceny.  Bidwell was arraigned at Sidney Village Court and Remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $2,500 cash bail.  Bidwell Jr. is accused of stealing money and falsifying records at the Sidney Country Store.

Chenango county sheriffs department arrested 35-year-old Rachael O’Neill of Norwich, for 2nd degree Harassment, following an investigation into an incident involving a county social services worker.  O’Neill is accused of threatening bodily harm to a County DSS worker during the course of a meeting, she was arraigned in the Town of Norwich court and is to re-appear in the City of Norwich court at a later date.
