Troopers discovered 50 year old Guillermo Soto of Morris had apparently lost control of his vehicle for an unknown reason, and struck a tree, he was found deceased in the driver’s seat with his seat belt on. Otsego County Coronor’s office responded to the scene and Soto was taken to Fox Hospital in Oneonta for a possible autopsy. The investigation is ongoing.

State Police arrested 33 year old Howard Archer of Unadilla for operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs and criminal possession of marihuana 5th, they also arrested 58 year old John Barkman of Sidney for unlawful possession of marihuana, after a vehicle stop when Archer was observed speeding on State Highway 8 in the Town of Unadilla. Police detected the odor of marijuana & a search of the vehicle and two occupants was conducted, they were issued tickets returnable to the Town of Guilford court on November 3rd.

For every dollar New York sends to Washington it receives about 91 cents back in federal spending, compared to a national average of nearly $1.22, according to a report released today by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. New York ranked 46th in the nation in its balance of payments between the amount it generated in federal taxes and the amount of federal government spending it received. , New York contributed $10,896 per capita in tax revenue to the federal budget, nearly a third more than the national average, and received an estimated $9,885 in per capita federal spending, slightly below the nationwide average.

State Police arrested 29-year-old Veronica Winchell of Andes, for menacing, criminal mischief, resisting arrest & harassment 2nd and 51 year old Marc Goodkin of Andes for 3rd degree Assault. Troopers responded to domestic dispute in Andes, Winchell physically resisted being handcuffed, & during processing Winchell damaged a window blind. Bother were arraigned & were remanded to the Delaware County jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 property bond, they face court action on Thursday.

the City of Oneonta & Cleinman Performance Partners & Asbury Gardens announced plans to build a memorial park to Oneonta’s late Mayor Dick Miller. Plans call for a memorial at the southwest corner of the intersection of Main Street & Lettis Highway, with year round plantings, benches, a walkway & a sculpture garden.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office & State Police arrested 24-year-old Ruslan Opatskyy of Binghamton in connection with the armed robbery at the Mirabito Gas Station in the Town of Windsor on Thursday. Opatskyy has been charged with 2nd degree robbery & faces court action in the Town of Windsor Court at a later date. Opatskyy and Catherine Boyea-Kaninsky, 21 of Port Crane were also charged with 2nd degree robbery for the armed robbery at the Kwik Fill Gas Station in Port Crane last Tuesday.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 78-year-old Frank Kriz of Oxford with 2 counts of Identity Theft, for allegedly opening 5 lines of credit using other people’s information. Kriz was arraigned in the Town of Oxford Court and was released on his own recognizance to return at a later date.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 22-year-old Michael Beckwith of New Berlin for 2nd degree Harassment & Resisting Arrest. Beckwith is accused of making several threats towards arresting Deputies & for resisting arrest. Beckwith was arraigned in the Town of North Norwich Court and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $500 cash bail. Beckwith is to reappear in court at a later date to answer to his charges.

The Chenango County Farm Bureau Annual Meeting date is tonight at the Silo Restaurant in Greene. A short film entitled “Every Farmer” produced by New York Farm Bureau will be shown. There will be FFA students and teachers from several schools present along with NY State Legislators & local officials. Agriculture is still the number one industry in New York State and Chenango County.

Barnhart left WCDO with $3148 yesterday, about 97% of the money collected goes directly for toy purchases.  Donations are being accepted at WCDORADIO.com for toys for tots, toys are still being accepted at the WCDO Studios today, they will also be collected in Bainbridge this Saturday when the Toys for Tots train stops at noon.

A wood stove is blamed for a Saturday fire in Deposit.  Deposit Firefighters & fire fighters from 7 other departments responded to 2941 China Road around 3:30 a.m. Saturday, the house was a total loss, the Red Cross is assisting occupants.

State police at Sidney arrested 31-year-old Howard Archer of Unadilla for unlawful possession of marihuana.  The arrest resulted from a vehicle stop on Pine Hill Road in Sidney.   Police searched Archer’s vehicle & confiscated 15 grams of marihuana and two smoking pipes with burnt marihuana residue, Archer was released on tickets returnable to the Sidney town court on December 12th.

State troopers arrested 32-year-old Nicole Caves of Beacon, New York Saturday, after a property damage automobile accident on State Route 17 in Hancock. Caves was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a reportable BAC result of .26%, more than 3 times the legal limit.   Cave was issued tickets to appear in the Hancock town court on January 26,

The Oneonta Common Council approved a 2014 budget by a vote of 5 to 2 Last week.  The $15.3 million dollar general fund budget for 2014 carries a tax levy increase of 1.5%, a public hearing on the plan Will be held tonight at Oneonta City Hall at 7:00, the council will then likely vote on the budget.

NEWS WEDNESDAY 6-26-13 http://www.wcdoonline.com/localnews/p-m-news-wednesday-6-26-13/ Wed, 26 Jun 2013 17:54:50 +0000 http://www.wcdoonline.com/localnews/?p=1074 Continue reading ]]> State police responded to a 2-vehicle accident with 9 injuries at around 7:30 this morning in Madison County.  Reports said that a Department of Transportation dump truck hit a Sherburne Earlville school district van, after the district vehicle went through a stop sign in Smithfield.  Troopers reported that the school van was carrying 6 teachers to Syracuse, the DOT Truck had 3 passengers, both vehicles went off the road & both overturned.   All 9 were taken to area hospitals, the investigation is continuing.

The State Labor Department today released unemployment rates for May. The state’s unemployment rate was 7.6% in May, locally Chenango County’s rate dropped ½% to 6.9%, Delaware County’s rate dropped 4/10’s to 7.9% and Otsego County’s rate dropped ½% to 6.9% in May.

The Chenango county sheriffs department arrested an unidentified 16-year-old female from Guilford on a charge of 2nd degree harassment.  The juvenile was arrested after an investigation into a fight on a school bus where the suspect struck the victim in the head and face several times.  The juvenile will appear in the Town of Guilford Court at a later date.

State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team and the Vestal and Endicott Police Departments executed a search warrant this morning & arrested 37 year old Raheem Gibson & 35 year old Ann Vargas of Westover on charges of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, Unlawful Possession of Marihuana and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Police confiscated cocaine, marihuana, and a scale; both were issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Union Court at a later date.

The 2013 farm aid concerts will come to the Saratoga performing arts center later this year. The show will be on Saturday September 21, featuring John Mellencamp, Willie nelson, Neil young, Dave Matthews and many other, tickets will go on sale on Friday.

Delaware County’s solid waste composting facility has been operating for 7 years now, and the product from the facility is sold daily for a number of reasons.  Solid waste management coordinator Sue McIntyre explains:

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Pennsylvania resident on an active Family Court Warrant.  27-year-old Alfredo Gonzalez of Browndale, Pennsylvania was wanted on a warrant issued by the Chenango County Family Court for failure to pay child support; he was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional facility on $1,000 purge or to serve a 60 day sentence.
