Prindle on State Route 7 in Bainbridge on October 27th in 2014. Guzy has waived his right to a jury trial; the presiding judge will decide his fate.

Governor Cuomo is inviting New Yorkers to an Open House at the Executive Mansion on Sunday, March 27th to celebrate Easter Sunday. Visitors and their families will be welcome to tour the Executive Mansion, meet the Governor, and participate in an inaugural Easter egg hunt. All adults over the age of 16 wishing to attend must have a ticket. Individuals who receive tickets will be allowed to bring 1 guest and any underage children from their household. The registration period takes place at governor.ny.gov until Friday, March 18th at 5:00 PM. The Open House will be held from 1:30PM to 3:30PM on March 27th.

19-year-old Jonathan Garcia pleaded not guilty to murder and other charges in Broome County Court today. Garcia was charged with 2 counts of 2nd degree murder, 2 counts of robbery and 1 count of criminal possession of a weapon for the shooting death of Jamaal Moses in Binghamton on February 14th. Garcia was apprehended in Florida & was returned to New York, he was remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail.

Delaware County Sheriff Deputies conducted a traffic stop on State Highway 268 in the Town of Tompkins, they arrested 36 year old Thomas Evans of Walton for speeding, improper passing, aggravated unlicensed operation, & Criminal Possession of controlled substance. Evans was arranged and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $500 cash bail pending court action in the Town of Tompkins Court at a later date.

State Police arrested 46-year-old Ronald Sanford of Middletown for criminal mischief. The arrest occurred after troopers were advised of a domestic dispute that occurred on March 11, in the Town of Middletown. During a verbal argument, the victim attempted to get into her car and driveway, Sanford allegedly grabbed a large rock and threw it at her car twice, causing over $4000 damage. Sanford was issued a ticket returnable to the Town of Middletown court on March 16, 2016.

Delaware County Sheriff Tom Mills announced that the Sunday Fundraiser at Danny’s Restaurant in Walton netted nearly $30,000 for the K-9 program. The K-9 unit has become increasingly important as the county battles the ongoing drug problem. Sheriff Mills stated that the money raised would be used for the continuance of the K9 unit & the upkeep for “Ozzie”

Village elections will be held tomorrow, with some races of local interest. In Bainbridge, Phillip Wade & Steven Eisenberg are running, as Chick Darling has decided to step aside & pursue a village trustee position. Others running for village trustee positions in Bainbridge are Timothy Mayes, Edward Gorton & Erik Barnard. In Unadilla, Christopher Winkler, Paul Baldwin & Jeff Jones are running for 2 trustee positions, Dave Welch is running unopposed for Mayor. In Sidney, Thomas Ford is running unopposed for a village trustee position.

Governor Cuomo announced $26 million is now available through the Farmland Protection Implementation Grant program to help farmers protect valuable and at-risk farmland. The  Grant program is part of the Environmental Protection Fund, which Governor Cuomo’s 2016 Executive Budget proposal has more than doubled, to $300 million. Municipalities, counties, soil and water conservation districts and land trusts are eligible to apply at agriculture.ny.gov/RFPS.html.

State Police have announced a 2nd arrest in connection with the April 2015 kidnapping of KyLea Fortner and her sister Shaeleen Fitch-Fortner. the teens were found last week at 327 Torrance Avenue, Vestal, at the home of 29 year old Amanda Hellman, who was charged with 2nd degree kidnapping. on Friday, the girls mother, 36 Year old Cindy Fortner of Homer was also charged with 2nd degree Kidnapping, she was arraigned and was remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail. Anyone with information is requested to contact 775-1241. The investigation is continuing.

Garcia was wanted for the fatal shooting of 28-year-old Jamaal Moses of Binghamton on Sunday. Garcia was still in Miami this morning, he has been charged with 2nd degree murder & is being held at the Dade County Correctional Facility, he should be brought back to Binghamton in the next couple of days.

Afton Fire Fighters responded to State Highway 41 for a Working Barn Fire, at about 1:00 AM this morning. Afton was assisted by firefighters from Coventry, Bainbridge, Masonville, Harpursville, Sidney, Deposit, Sanitaria Springs, Greene & Unadilla. No injuries among firefighters were reported, Firefighters were able to remove some animals, while an undetermined amount died in the fire. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

Firefighters from several area companies responded to a structure fire at county route 10 & The Sheehan Road in the town of Meredith Sunday Morning. A family of 3 was left homeless, there were no reports of injury, but fire fighters were hampered by sub zero temperatures in fighting that blaze.

Town of Hancock Supervisor Sam Rowe has issued a State of Emergency for the Town of Hancock. All town roads in the town of Hancock are closed at this time due to ice conditions. Town of Bovina roads remain closed at this time as well.

40-year-old Kyle Smallin of Mount Vision has been arrested for allegedly stealing a wallet at Bassett Hospital. Smallin was charged with grand larceny and petty larceny, & for violating the terms of his probation from a separate offense. Smallin was arraigned, posted $1,000 cash bail & he will return to the Town of Otsego Court Wednesday.

NYSEG has filed paperwork to get approval to replace the natural gas pipeline that runs from Norwich to Oneonta. Plans call for the pipe to be 10-inches, instead of the current 8 inch pipe, Nyseg is also seeking to replace other pipelines in the southern tier over the next few years to safeguard their natural gas pipeline network.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 38 year old Sarah Wiley of Delhi on a Bench Warrant issued by Hamden Town Court for failure to appear to answer the charges of operating a motor vehicle with an expired registration, without a license, without insurance, & while not wearing a seat belt. Wiley was arraigned and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $250 dollars cash bail.

The shooting occurred at about 1:00 am this morning. Moses was taken to Wilson Memorial Hospital where died from his injuries. The suspect has been described as a Hispanic male, in his twenties, approximately 5’10” tall with a thin to medium build, wearing dark colored clothing and may have left the area in red colored vehicle. This Afternoon, 19 year old Jonathan Garcia of Binghamton has been identified as a person of interest in connection with the shooting, Binghamton Police are seeking any information that may lead to Garcia’s whereabouts. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Binghamton Police Detective Bureau at 772-7080.

The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed a narcotics search warrant at 2 Baker Road in the Town of Chenango; they arrested 50-year-old Ann Affholder on a variety of drug charges for 4 allegedly possessing & selling methamphetamine. Affholder was charged with 4 counts of sale of methamphetamine, she was arraigned at the Town of Chenango Court and was remanded to the custody of the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility without bail.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s department arrested an Oneonta couple for allegedly using an elderly neighbor’s checking account to pay their bills. 29 year old Gordon Carr-Wisner, & 25 year old Rebecca Carr-Wisner were arraigned in the Town of Oneonta Court, Rebecca was remanded to the custody of the Sheriff on $1,o00 cash or $2,000 bond and set to appear in the Town of Oneonta court on March 3rd, Gordon was remanded into custody with no bail and set to appear in court on March 10th.

37 year-old Ronald Boecke of Davenport was arrested for 3rd degree rape & endangering the welfare of a child, for allegedly performing sexual acts with a female under 17 yeas of age. Boecke was being held in Otsego County jail on $2,500 cash or $5,000 bond bail pending future court action.

Several pipes burst in the Walton high school and middle school buildings at the Walton Central School District. The school had vacation days scheduled through Wednesday, will use two snow days on Thursday and Friday to give the maintenance staff time to clean and repair. The pipe bursts were mainly in the high school offices, as well as the high school guidance office. There were a few cracked pipes in the middle school, but valves were turned off before the ice gave way, so no water released into the rooms. School will resume Monday, February 22nd.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Department arrested 3 County residents on drug charges Thursday, on Sealed Grand Jury Indictment Warrants for allegedly selling Heroin in Walton. Deputies arrested 42-year-old Jenny Bowers of Delhi, 37-year-old Adam Green of Walton & 26-year-old Frank Mastrorocco of Walton. All 3 were remanded to the Delaware County jail; Green was arrested at the County Jail where he was being held on separate drug charges. Mastrorocco violated the terms of his Probation in 2014, he was returned to the Delaware County Jail on the latest charges.

Delaware County Deputies investigated a 1-car property damage auto accident on Loomis Brook Road near Teed Road in the Town of Walton. Jeffrey Lambrecht was traveling on Loomis Brook when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into some trees. He then drove the vehicle from the scene and parked it in a nearby driveway. He was issued a ticket for leaving the scene of a property damage auto accident; he faces court action in the Town of Walton Court on February 24th.

Delaware County Deputies investigated a 2-car personal injury auto accident on County Hwy 14 near Mostert Road in the Town of Delhi. 25-year-old Kayla Hadley of Delhi lost control of her vehicle due to the snowy road conditions; she traveled into the opposite lane of traffic and was struck by 24 year old Kyla Roche of Delhi. Hadley was transported to O’Connor Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. There were no tickets issued.
