Last weekend, a record amount of fans attended the Binghamton Senators’ Open House at Floyd Maines Veterans Memorial Arena on Saturday. The free event provided fans with guided tours and prizes all afternoon. Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed a bill that authorizes 16 and 17-year-olds to make organ donations upon their death. The legislation includes appropriate safeguards that enable parents or legal guardians to rescind the decision if the minor dies before age 18. Current law provides that the minimum age to make an anatomical gift in New York State is 18.

Lawrence Harvey of Coventry was arrested by Chenango County Sheriff’s Office for 2nd degree menacing. Deputies & State Police responded to a dispute in the Town of Coventry where one of the participants was reported to be using a knife and a baseball bat. Harvey was subdued, arrested and was arraigned in the Town of Bainbridge Court, he will return to Town of Coventry Court at a later date.

State Police arrested 45 year old Audra Brendel-Hart of Bainbridge for aggravated harassment, after troopers responded to a report of threatening telephone calls being received at a home in Conklin. Brendel-Hart allegedly made over 10 telephone calls threatening to harm the victim with a baseball bat last Friday Night into Saturday morning. She was arraigned and released, she faces action in the Town of Conklin shortly.

The Delaware County Board of Elections will have a voting machine at the Delaware County Fair on Friday August 19 to educate the public on how to vote on the machines. It will be at the Republican Booth from 11am to 3pm and at the Democratic Booth from 3pm to 7pm. They will also have registration forms and absentee applications available.

Otsego County Conservation Association will be holding a highway cleanup along State Route 80 tomorrow from 9:00 to 11:00 AM. The cleanup is part of New York State’s Adopt-A-Highway program, Volunteers will meet at OCCA’s office at Mohican Farm, at the corner of Route 80 and Allen Lake Road, and will collect trash along a two-mile stretch of the road. State Police at Norwich arrested 35-year-old Jacqueline Kane of West Babylon for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs. The arrest followed a stop on State Route 12 in Norwich, Kane refused to submit to a blood test, she was arraigned & was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $1,000 cash bail or $2,500 bond, pending court action on April 17th.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 38-year-old Brian Cummings for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a motor vehicle. Cummings is accused of driving with a suspended license for failure to answer a traffic summons from Kirkwood Court. Cummings was arraigned in the Guilford Town Court and was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on Bail.

About 146,000 state workers this month will begin to receive their first raises since 2011. The raises were part of collective bargaining agreements, between Governor Cuomo and the state’s largest unions in 2011, when the state had a $10 billion deficit. The contracts called for no raises until the 2014-15 fiscal year, which started April 1st, and also included a no-layoff pledge. Cuomo’s budget office estimated the raises to six unions will cost the state about $189 million this fiscal year

On the 1-year anniversary of the passing of the New York safe act, gun control groups and Democratic Lawmakers said that the state should not stop at the law passed last year. State legislators against Illegal Guns-NY said that they want legislation that additional safety of gun storage for those with children, requires all semi-automatic handguns that puts a code on each spent shell casing, called micro-stamping, and limit buyers to 1 handgun purchase a month. Republicans that control the state senate are unlikely to support those proposals.

U.S. Senator Charles Schumer said that the federal funding for low income heating assistance would increase by $169 million dollars in the coming fiscal year, to a total of 3.4 billion dollars. Schumer said had called on the appropriators to raise the funding following the extreme low temperatures earlier this month. 13% of New York schools face some degree of fiscal distress with several having significant financial problems, according to a report from state comptroller tom DiNapoli, who warned that schools are dealing with budget deficits, limited revenue and depleted reserve funds. New York’s senators reported that 33.7 million dollars for the national stream gauge network is included in appropriations before congress. Senators Schumer & Gillibrand said the 6 million dollar increase in funding would help strengthen gauges in upstate counties that provide flood warnings during severe weather. The senators said that the money would help the US Geological survey keep existing gauges online and allow the ISGS to add more gauges in the high-risk flood zones in the upstate regions.

SUNY Delhi has received national recognition for their online nursing program. The 2014 edition of US News & World report, SUNY Delhi is at the top of the list for the best bachelor’s program, the program started 5 years ago when enrollment was projected to be around 50 students, the number has risen to 750. SUNY Delhi was also recently approved for the 1st graduate program for a master’s in science for nursing.

Morris will serve 6 months in Delaware County jail followed by 5 years probation orders of protection were issued for all victims named in the indictment filed against Morris. Morris was arrested following a series of threats made on Facebook against people associated with the Walton Central School district. Morris is scheduled to be sentenced in Delaware County Court on September 30th.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office will host an open house at their location on Van Winkle Drive in Binghamton Today as part of the statewide Sheriff’s Week. State police & Walton Police have arrested 28-year-old Jennifer Morris of East Branch, for 12 count each of falsely reporting an incident and 2nd degree aggravated harassment. Morris was arrested following the investigation into threats posted on Facebook toward the Walton Central School District. Morris was arraigned in the Village of Walton court & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $10,000 bail.

24-year-old John Desantis of Johnson City has been arrested for allegedly robbing the M&T Bank in Binghamton yesterday morning. Desantis is accused of entering the bank branch on Exchange Street at around 9:10 Wednesday morning; he was arrested shortly after the robbery on a charge of 1st degree Robbery & was arraigned & was remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail.

Oneonta police arrested 3 city residents on drug possession charges Tuesday. Charged were 37-year-old Terell Hardy, 20-year-old Jose Gonzalez and 21-year-old David Kohls, all of Oneonta, for 3rd degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Oneonta Police made the arrests after responding to a reported fight at 40 Maple Street; police confiscated a large quantity of drugs, about $3,000 cash, and a firearm. All 3 were arraigned in Oneonta city court and were remanded to the Otsego County Jail on bail pending future court action.

The arrest resulted from a traffic stop and investigation on State Route 12 in Guilford Huzinec was arraigned in the Town of Guilford Court and remanded to the Chenango County Jail.

The Sidney Police Department arrested 27-year-old Joseph Light of Sidney for 2nd degree Burglary, 3 counts of 3rd degree Burglary & 4 counts of Petty Larceny. Light is accused unlawfully entering and stealing property from a residence on Grand Street and garages on Willow Street, and Colegrove Street. Light was arraigned at Sidney Village Court and Remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond, he will return to Sidney court on June 25th.

22 year old Daniel Doherty of Binghamton was sentenced in Broome County Court to 23 years in jail, on a charge of 1st degree manslaughter in a plea bargain deal, in connection with the death of 27 year old Daniel Martinez of the Bronx in October of 2011, Martinez was found in a wooded area in the town of Chenango by hunters. Doherty will be required to testify at the trial of co-defendant, Joseph Ross-Jones as part of the plea deal with the district attorney’s office.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division arrested 34-year-old Shawn Bosket of Windsor, after he allegedly failed to return an annual address verification form for sex offenders, to the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services. Bosket was taken into custody in the Town of Colesville on January 4th & was ordered to appear in the Town of Dickinson Court today.

State comptroller Tom DiNapoli released a report following an audit of the town of Deposit. The town government responded, they reported that they would conduct a monthly review of the town clerk’s duties, the supervisor will review & Certify payroll before submission for payment, and have a review done by an appointed board member before it is given to the book keeper, & the town board will work to adopt budgets based on recurring revenues & amend the budget as needed, according to DiNapoli’s recommendations.
