4 Towns Forward will be holding their 2nd annual Community Yard Sales, but due to the predicted poor weather condition this Saturday, the event will be moved to the following Saturday May 6th, according to 4Towns Forward President Teri Schunk:

Sidney’s Annual Arbor Day Celebration will be held tomorrow morning at 10:00 AM at Keith Clark Park, spokesperson Lorrie Roach explains;

Roach said that a Japanese Red Maple tree will be planted in recognition of Mary Jane Plummer contributions to the community. Sidney has also been designated as a “Tree City USA” community for the 27th year.

Today, the Governor’s Office sent state agencies to Assist Local governments IN Sullivan County following Saturday’s Tornado in Callicoon Center and Roscoe. Affected residents can call the Disaster Hotline at 800- 339-1759 For Insurance-Related Questions. The State Department of Agriculture and Markets Encourages Affected Farms to Contact U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency to Report Damage. The National Weather Service in Binghamton determined the tornado was an EF2, with maximum winds of 115 mph. The tornado traveled 10 miles with a maximum width of 300 yards.

Law Enforcement Agencies around the state are participating in “Operation Safe Stop Day” today, where police officers are checking to see if motorists are stopping for school busses with their flashing lights on, picking up or dropping off students. It is estimated that 50-thousand New Yorkers illegally pass stopped school buses each day that school is in session. Penalties for a first-time offense include a fine of up to 400 dollars, five points on a person’s drivers license and possibly 30 days in jail.

The family of Jorge Jimenez, who was fatally struck by a vehicle driven by former Syracuse University basketball coach Jim Boeheim in February 2019, has agreed to settle a lawsuit against Boeheim. Terms of the settlement will remain sealed, Jimenez was a passenger in a car that that skidded on Interstate 690 and hit a guardrail. Boeheim was driving home after a game when he swerved to avoid the car and hit Jimenez, who was later pronounced dead at a hospital. Boeheim was not charged by police investigating the crash.

32-year-old Kyle Packer was arrested by Otsego County Sheriff’s deputies following a domestic dispute in Edmeston. Packer allegedly choked a victim & several items were also damaged, he left the scene, but was later arrested on a separate outstanding warrant for allegedly trying to use a fake $100 bill to purchase items at a retail establishment. Packer was charged with Strangulation, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, Criminal Mischief, Harassment, Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument & Petty Larceny, he is being held in the Otsego County Jail pending arraignment.

The plans call for increasing prevention efforts by trying to limit prescriptions for the legal medications from Doctors, opioid education to prescribed patients & Establishing a Narcan kit registry. The plan also calls for increased penalties for existing & new laws dealing with the sale of controlled substances. This year’s state budget commitment of $166 million for heroin and opioid crisis, treatment, outpatient, and residential services, was increased by another $25 million follow the report from the Senate task Force.

U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer introduced a bill to expand Brady background checks. Schumer introduced Brady Bill 2 after more than 2,000 advocates flooded his office Monday morning with phone calls. Senator Schumer’s original Brady Bill has prevented more than 2.6 million gun sales to domestic abusers, violent felons, and people with dangerous mental illnesses; the new bill will expand background checks to all gun sales.

The brand name Time Warner Cable will soon disappear, as Charter Communications announced that they will phase out Time Warner Cable’s name as a result of its $55.1 billion acquisition of the company. Charter Officials announced that the Time Warner aquiisition along with that of Bright House Networks, will both be combined under the “Spectrum” brand name.

The State DOT will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, May 24, regarding plans to rehabilitate a bridge on State Route 28 in the town of Milford. The meeting will be held at Milford Central School, at 7:00 PM. The bridge was built in 1985 and carries State Route 28 over State Route 7 and the Norfolk Southern Railroad Freight Main Line. Capital Reserve Propositions Passed IN Bainbridge Guilford, Gilbertsville Mount Upton, Laurens, Unatego & Unadilla Valley; bus propositions passed in Afton, Bainbridge Guilford, Laurens, Oneonta, Oxford Unadilla Valley & Walton, & library Propositions passed in Milford, Norwich, Walton & Sidney.

Governor Cuomo announced $1 million in funding to expand access to addiction treatment services and family supports in the Southern Tier, and other locations to connect patients in Emergency Departments to appropriate treatment and support programs. In the Southern Tier, $250,000 was awarded to Addiction Center of Broome County in Binghamton, for those in need in Broome and neighboring Counties, starting June 1st.
