Officials with Spiedie Fest announced that all events at Otsiningo Park today are canceled, due to the storms in the area, The Meet & Greet with Kurt Angle is going on until 6:00 PM at the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena, followed by the concert with John Waite & Tommy DeCarlo. All activities at Otsiningo Park will begin again tomorrow at 6:00 AM.

Train Traffic Along the Mohawk River Corridor has come to a halt today, following a freight train derailment in the town of Amsterdam. State Route 5 has been closed down as well to allow for easy access by emergency personnel. the clean up is ongoing & they hope to have train travel running again as soon as possible.

Norwich Police Department arrested 42 year old Jaswinder Singh of Norwich for allegedly selling tobacco products to underage minors at his A&R Smoke Shop on North Broad Street. Singh was charged with unlawful dealing with a child. 42 year old Harminder Singh of Norwich was also charged , they face court action at a later date.

47 year old Daniel Greaves of Endicott was arrested by the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force after they executed a narcotics search warrant in Endicott. Greaves was charged with a number of counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance plus criminal possession of a firearm, officers seized Cocaine, Methamphetamine, Tramadol Hydrochloride along with scales & packaging materials used for selling narcotics, along with a Shotgun & $620 in cash. Greaves was taken to Central Arraignment at the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility.

37 year old Michael Salamey of Frankfort appeared in Delaware County Court Wednesday & a 2 Count Indictment was unsealed Salamey was charged with Grand Larceny for allegedly stealing over $360,000, by entering into a contract to improve property in the Town of Roxbury. The Indictment said that the owner of the property paid Salamey the money to install a septic system, underground electric utilities, foundations, and small homes & that the work was not performed & her stopped communicating with the property owner. Salamey was released & a conference is scheduled in Delaware County Court on August 21st.

State Police arrested 36 year old Joseph VanLeuvan of Shandaken, for Grand Larceny and 16 counts of the Forgery, after Mountain Ridge Excavation and Construction reported that several checks were written out to VanLeuvan that they had not issued. VanLeuvan allegedly issued 16 checks to himself without authorization, totaling $15,000. VanLeauvan was already incarcerated in the Delaware County Jail for another matter, he was processed and was returned to the Delaware County Jail.

The Spiedie Fest has made some changes to their schedule due to the weather forecast. Spiedie Fest had decided to move the meet and greet with WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle and concert featuring John Waite and Tommy DeCarlo to the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena. The remainder of Friday’s festival and activities will go on as planned at Otsiningo Park. The events will still take place at their scheduled times. The meet and greet with Kurt Angle will be from 3 to 6 p.m. John Waite will perform at 6 p.m., followed by Tommy DeCarlo at 7:30 p.m.

State Police reported that 2 pedestrians that were struck by a vehicle in the town of Middletown Wednesday. State Police stated that 68 year old John Guidice & 67 year old Joyce Guidice, both of Middletown, were struck by a vehicle while on the shoulder of New Kingston Road, the vehicle did not stop, Numerous lifesaving measures were performed & Joyce was pronounced dead at the scene, John was taken to Margaretville Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A vehicle with front end damage was located & a 70 year old man from Staten Island was being interviewed by Investigators. The investigation is on-going. More will be released once it is available.

Attorney General Letitia James and DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos today announced a settlement with FrieslandCampina Ingredients North America, Inc. in Delhi over numerous violations of state and federal environmental laws. The Delhi manufacturing facility was emitting dangerous air and water pollution into the surrounding community, putting public health at risk. The agreement with Federal & State Agencies requires Friesland to come into full compliance with environmental protection laws and pay a penalty of $2.88 million. New York will receive $1.44 million to fund projects that benefit public health and the environment in the Delhi area.

4 people have been arrested after the discovery of multiple illegal items in Binghamton. The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force, along with the Binghamton Police Department Community Response Team and Patrol Division executed a search warrant Tuesday at 35 Baxter Street, Officers seized weapons, $3,540 in suspected drug proceeds, Oxycontin and items used for packaging and weighing narcotics. Arrested were 47 year old Jaime Marte-Viera, 27 year old Juan Genao, 20 year old Sincere Pryor and 32 year old Tyron Howell on a variety of Drug & Weapons Charges, all face court action shortly.

The State Comptroller’s Office reported that local government sales tax collections in New York state totaled $5.7 billion in the 2nd quarter of 2023, an increase of 3%, compared to the same period last year. 2nd quarter growth was lower that the 1st quarter, due to a steep drop in gas prices, sales tax collections on motor fuels decreasing by -19% year over year.

Delaware County District Attorney’s Office announced that 48 year old John Jormack of Franklin has been indicted for 3 counts of Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child, for allegedly engaging in sexual conduct with a child less than 11 years old and a child less than 13 years old in the Town of Franklin. Jormack is being held in the Delaware County Jail on $50,000 bail.

The State Commission on Judicial Conduct has determined that Justice Jeremy Persons of the Guilford Town Court. The Commission’s decision stated that Person’s offensive sexual comments in court, the gratuitous displays of a firearm, his failure to account for court funds, the disregard of his own traffic tickets, and his failure to cooperate with investigating entities, demonstrated his unfitness for judicial office.”

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 53 year old Matthew Knutsen of Otego following an accident investigation on April 13, 2023 in the Otego. Knutsen was charged with Aggravated DWI- Blood Alcohol Content .18 or higher, Consumption of Alcohol in Motor Vehicle, Speed Not Reasonable and Prudent Moved from Lane Unsafely, & Failure to Keep Right Knutsen was issued an appearance tickets for the Otego Town Court on a later date.

During Earth Week, Governor Kathy Hochul announced 8 new large-scale renewable energy infrastructure projects have been completed, which should support the creation of nearly 1,800 jobs and spurred nearly $800 million in private investment, while contributing nearly $70 million to their host communities for of school, town, and county payments. The recently completed projects include Puckett Solar of Greene in Chenango County, which is a 20 MegaWatt solar facility developed and constructed by CS Energy and is owned by MN8 Energy.

The Lineup of performers coming to the 39th Annual Spiedie Fest & Balloon Rally was announced today. On Friday, August 4th – John Waite and Tommy Decarlo of Boston will perform at 6:00 PM, Saturday, August 5th Country music act Scotty McCreery at 5:00 PM, and Sunday, August 6th Gavin DeGraw will play his hits at 5:00 PM. Organizers also stated that there will also be a meet & greet with professional wrestler Kurt Angle from 3 to 6 pm. on Friday, and a Little Mermaid concert at 1 pm. on Saturday.

The General Clinton Canoe Regatta will be held May 26th though the 28th this year. Co-Chairman Mike Kauffman told WCDO News that they will stick with the 3 day event and leave Monday Memorial Day as an off day again this year:

Delaware County District Attorney’s Office announced that 38 year old Chad Ostrander of Grand Gorge was arraigned on a 5 count indictment for Attempted Assault of a Police Officer for trying to run down a police officer in Walton, Reckless endangerment for driving at more than 130 miles an hour during a police chase from Walton to Colchester, Criminal Mischief for kicking a door & engaging in a physical domestic dispute in front of a child. Ostrander pleaded not guilty to all 5 counts, & he was remanded back to the Delaware County Jail pending future court action.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 32 year old Victoria Spataro of Oneonta following a traffic stop in the City of Oneonta. Spataro was charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Driving While Intoxicated & Inadequate Lights, Spataro was issued appearance tickets returnable to the Oneonta City Court at a later date.
