37-year-old Justin Knapp was found guilty in Broome County Court for Criminal Possession of a Firearm and Tampering with Physical Evidence. On January 14, Knapp possessed an illegal .22 caliber pistol. While investigating an incident in the Town of Lisle, State Police attempted to stop a vehicle in which Knapp was a passenger in Newark Valley. The vehicle refused to stop, and a pursuit began, the car crashed, & Knapp was seen tossing something out of the window. With the help of a canine, troopers recovered the pistol later that day. Knapp faces sentencing at a later date.

The 49th Festival of Bands will be held at the Norwich High School Football Field on October 28th, with 8 field bands performing at the combination performance & fundraiser, Spokesman Paul Musk explains:

A.M. NEWS Thursday 9-28-23

Delaware County District Attorney’s Office announced that 47 year old Russell Ellis of Hancock, was convicted of 3rd degree Assault, for assaulting a woman during an argument in Deposit in July. State Police responded to the incident and took Ellis into custody, he was later remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility. Ellis appeared in Hancock Village Court and pleaded guilty to Assault and was sentenced to time served and a 1-year conditional discharge, the Court also issued an Order of Protection in favor of the victim, he was ordered to pay a fine of $500, a surcharge of $205, a DNA fee of $50.00 and to provide a DNA sample for inclusion in the State DNA database.

Daniel Erickson of Greene pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Wednesday morning to Luring a Child and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Erickson he former middle school principal in the Johnson City School District, He is accused of communicating with a Johnson City High School student in an attempt to entice the student to perform sexual acts and attempting to meet her with the intention of having sexual relations with her. Erickson was arrested on July 7th, he resigned his position as principal.

Ernest Franklin is accused of acting with his wife Heather, to murder their 16 year old special needs son Jeffrey & then set fire to the family home to cover up the crime. Heather Franklin posted bail earlier this year & was released, Chenango County Judge Frank Revoir will have his decision on Ernest Franklin Bail lowering request later this week. The Franklins will be tried separately in Chenango County Court early next year.

State Police are continuing to investigate 35-year-old Justin Mancini of Endicott, who was arrested last week for possessing child pornography. State Police are asking for the public’s help, after their investigation revealed that Mancini had solicited for babysitting jobs through Craigslist. Troopers ask that if anyone has information regarding the craiglist ad, or if they know of anyone who hired Mancini to baby-sit, to call the Bureau of Investigation at 754-3854.

Police in Middletown in are continuing to look for a man who shot 2 people in the Galleria Mall Sunday. A woman & her 12-year-old son suffered minor injuries in the shooting; the assailant managed to escaped the mall, which was crowded with holiday shoppers.

State lawmakers are beginning work on segments of next year’s state budget this week in Albany. The Governor is scheduled to deliver a joint state of the state & state budget message to a joint session of the legislature in mad January, the budget is due to be passed on April 1st.

The Binghamton Devils announced that they would be participating in a fundraiser for the Toys For Tots Campaign tonight. Governor Cuomo today announced the deployment of 72 additional New York State electric utility experts to Puerto Rico arriving today and tomorrow to assist with the ongoing recovery of Puerto Rico’s power grid. The deployment coincides with the arrival of a barge loaded with an additional 55 utility vehicles and equipment docking at the port in San Juan. Under Governor Cuomo’s direction, this week’s deployment brings the total number of New York utility personnel involved in the power restoration effort to 457 along with approximately 330 New York utility vehicles and other power recovery equipment to assist with the island’s restoration of power.
