Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 31 year old Shean Seeley of Otego following an investigation of alleged child abuse. Seeley was charged with 3 counts of acting in a Manor to Injure a Child less than 17 years of age, and 2 counts of Reckless Endangerment after a hotline report received by Otsego County Child Protective Services. Seeley is accused of routinely acting in a manner that exposed his children to risk of serious physical injury, he was released on his own recognizance to appear in Otego Town Court on a later date.

Bassett Healthcare Network and Helios Care recently announced a collaboration to provide hospice and palliative care to patients in Central New York. Governor Kathy Hochul today announced $325 million in grants is available for clean water infrastructure projects through the next round of the State’s Water Infrastructure Improvement and Inter-municipal Grant programs. Riley lost to Marc Molinaro, who only just started as the 19th district Congressman in January, after beating Riley in last November’s general election by a thin margin.

Police in Virginia have not yet charged Michael Davis of Richmond Virginia, in connection with the April 5th abduction of Tatiana David in Ithaca. Police in Virginia stopped Michael Davis’s vehicle shortly after he crossed into Virginia, he fled the scene before crashing his vehicle about 35 minutes later, he shot at troopers who returned fire, Davis is still in critical condition in a Virginia hospital. Tatiana David was found deceased outside Davis’s vehicle, the results of the autopsy have not yet been released.

Delaware County District Attorney’s Office announced that 41 year old Jason Dufton of Susquehanna, Pennsylvania pleaded guilty to engaging in a Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in Delaware County Court. Dufton admitted that he engaged in sexual conduct with a child less than 13 years old while he resided in the Town of Hancock, he will be sentenced to 7 years in state prison and 15 years of post-release supervision & he will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison & he must submit a sample of his DNA for the state’s DNA databank. Sentencing will be on May 30th.

The State Department of Corrections announced that disgraced Hollywood movie producer Harvey Weinstein has been moved to the Mohawk Correctional Facility in Rome New York. Weinstein was convicted of rape in 2020, he was sentenced to 23 years in state prison, he was also found guilty of sex crimes in California & was sentenced there to 16 years in prison. New York State Correctional officials moved Weinstein to Mohawk, following a heart procedure shortly after. His lawyers have also said that he suffers from diabetes and vision issues.

It’s been almost a year since 12 year old Aliza Spencer of Binghamton was fatally shot while walking with her father & brother April 21st in Binghamton. Aliza’s Father Fred Spencer held a press conference & asked people to come forward with information into the shooting, A reward of $32,000 is being offered, many area residents have donated to increase the reward, so far there have been no arrests in the case.

State lawmakers passed another budget extension for another week Monday, making sure that state workers get paid. State lawmakers will not be paid themselves until a budget is passed, according to state Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Sticking points in the negotiations include bail reform & the Governor’s plans for more housing statewide. The Legislature would have through April 17 to either pass a budget or extend the process again.

Broome Count District Attorney office reported that William Effner of Walton pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Effner admitted he possessed methamphetamine with the intent to sell in the Town of Nanticoke in December, he will be sentenced to 4 years in state prison and 2 years of post-release supervision in June. Effner was previously convicted of Attempted Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in 2019 in Delaware County.

43 year old Ray Hyer of Unadilla was arrested in Ohio after he failed to appear in n Otsego County court earlier this year for sentencing on a criminal sexual act charge. Hyer was located in Sandusky, Ohio on October 21st, he was arrested and was extradited back to the Otsego County Jail, he faces additional charges on top of the original criminal sexual act conviction.

Broome County officials are investigating the death of an inmate in the Broome County Jail on Friday. 30 year-old Mitchell Lindow of Binghamton was being held on a murder charge when he was found deceased by Corrections officers conducting a head count, an autopsy was conducted Friday, no cause of death was determined.

the Internal Revenue Service reports that some New Yorkers may be getting a 2nd stimulus check from the IRS. State Police are continuing to investigate an incident where a woman showed up at Chenango Memorial Hospital Friday with a gunshot wound, the woman was later transferred to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City. Chenango Memorial Hospital & 2 area school district were locked-down at the time, there was no threat to the public & the investigation is ongoing.

Assemblyman Joe Angelino & State Senator Peter Oberacker and local officials unveiled the newly-named SP4 Richard F. Walton, Jr. Memorial Highway in Gilbertsville. A bill sponsored by the lawmakers renamed a portion of State Highway 51 after the fallen Vietnam War medic, who was raised in the Town of Butternuts, he served in the 326th Medical Battalion, 101 Airborne, American Division of the U.S. Army. On February 6 1970, Walton lost his life in a helicopter crash while serving his country as a medic.

$48.7 million in federal highway safety grants have been awarded to 580 programs across New York State. The purpose of this grant program is to provide funds to local, state and not-for-profit agencies for projects that improve highway safety and reduce deaths and serious injuries due to crashes. Southern Tier Counties will receive Southern Tier $305,755.00 in grants.

The Deposit Fire Department and Eastern Broome Emergency Services responded to a house fire in the Town of Sanford, Oquaga Lake Road was closed between Old Route 17 and Hanson Road. No injuries were reported, the structure sustained significant fire damage. Mutual aid was provided by fire fighters from Windsor, West Windsor, Harpursville, Ouaquaga and Afton.

Agriculture in New York state paid close to $1 billion in wages and produced roughly $3.3 billion in gross domestic product in 2021, according to a report by New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. The sector has proved to be among the most resilient during the COVID-19 pandemic, losing just 1% of jobs in 2020 compared to the statewide annual employment loss of 8.7%. Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that 32 year old Amanda Hoyt of Binghamton, pleaded guilty to the felony offense of Attempted Burglary in the Second Degree. In January, Hoyt illegally entered a St. Charles Street apartment in the Village of Johnson City and struck the resident in the arm with a hammer causing injury. Hoyt is a Second Violent Felony Offender and will be sentenced to 5 years in state prison on November 15th.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a Fight-in-Progress Complaint in the Hamlet of Arkville on July 16th. Rolland Billadeau of Shandaken allegedly pushed and struck the victim, Billadeau was located on August 21st and was served with a criminal summons on the charge of Harassment in the Second Degree. Billadeau is scheduled to appear before the Town of Middletown Court at a later date to answer for the charge. Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted by members of the New York State Police.

The Election results have been tabulated; in the 19th Congressional District, special election, Pat Ryan appears to have defeated Republican Marcus Molinaro to fill the Congressional seat through the end of this year. 51st State Senate District, incumbent Republican Peter Oberacker won & will be on the ballot in November. In the 52nd State Senate District, Lea Webb won the Democratic party nomination, and will face Republican Rich David in November. The State Department of Health will be operating a COVID-19 vaccination clinic on the grounds of the Great New York State Fair in Syracuse during its entire 13-day run, beginning August 24.
