28 time General Clinton Canoe Regatta Champion Serge Corbin will be competing for the 1st time in a mixed Pro Team, in this years 70 mile Race on Sunday with a new partner, Ev Chamberlain, they talked to WCDO’s Craig Stevens about coming to The Regatta this year:

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli’s Office audited the Village of Sidney, covering the period of June 2020 to June 2022. The Audit said that the Board and Clerk-Treasurer did not properly monitor selected financial activities, so the total general fund balance for fiscal year-end 2021-22 was overstated by $571,719. For the past 5 years, the total airport operating deficits exceeded $293,000, Delinquent taxes totaling $575,182 date back to fiscal year 2011-12 and officials cannot identify which taxpayers owe $60,452 of that total. General fund assets were overstated by $288,510 and liabilities by $434,929 in fiscal year 2021-22. 2 capital project funds and 3 community development funds have negative fund balances. The Audit’s Recommendations were to determine whether revenues are adequate to cover expenditures, Collect delinquent real property taxes & Maintain proper accounting records, Village officials generally agreed and indicated corrective actions would be taken.

The State Police will increase patrols to combat drunk, impaired, and reckless driving throughout this Memorial Day weekend. The special enforcement period starts today and runs through Tuesday. Drivers can expect to see sobriety checkpoints and increased patrols by State Police and local law enforcement agencies during this holiday weekend. On Memorial Day weekend in 2022, Troopers arrested 213 people for driving while impaired, issued 13,688 total tickets, and investigated 808 crashes, which resulted in four fatalities.

Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that 50 year old Michael Seaman was sentenced to 4 years in New York State prison followed by 5 years post-release supervision after pleading guilty to felony Attempted Assault. Seaman admitted that on October 18, 2022, in the Town of Fenton, he attempted to cause serious injury to an 18-year-old male by stabbing him in the leg with a knife during a road rage altercation. The victim was hospitalized and required surgery. Seaman was located in Chenango County later that day.

The General Clinton Canoe Regatta gets underway tonight with a variety of events at General Clinton Park, as well as the Generation gap races tonight, races & events will continue throughout the weekend, culminating with the 70 mile races on the Susquehanna River Sunday, Monday Memorial day will be an off day again this year.

The Hall of Fame Classic will be held Saturday at historic Doubleday Field in Cooperstown with the first pitch scheduled for 1:05 pm. Norwich Police Department’s new Chief Reuben Roach was sworn in by City of Norwich Mayor Brian Doliver Tuesday. Roach has had a 19-year career in law enforcement, serving in multiple positions over his career.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is currently looking for Brian Dart on multiple outstanding warrants and asking the residents of Broome County for assistance. Dart was last known to frequent the Route 7 area of Port Crane. Anyone with information on the location of Brian Dart is asked to contact the Broome County Sheriff’s Office. SUNY Oneonta & the Sidney Central School District have set up a teacher pipeline initiative to bring SUNY Education students into the Sidney School District, which could lead to a teaching position in Sidney for the SUNY graduates, Sidney Superintendent Eben Bullock explains:

Bullock said that the program started last fall and doubled in size from 22 students in the fall to 22 students on campus and 19 working at the Pre-K off campus program at the Cullman Center this spring. Bullock said that there has been a teacher shortage and this program may help alleviate that issue in Sidney.

A Cortland man charged with DWI after colliding with Broome Sheriff’s Office patrol car in the Town of Lisle Sunday. Additional Sheriff’s deputies responded to the accident, conducted the investigation and interviewed the driver, 26 year4 old Zackary Kohout of Cortland. Kohout was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Following Too Closely, Speed Not Reasonable & Prudent, & Consumption of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle, he was arraigned and released on an appearance ticket for the Town of Lisle Court later this month. The deputy whose patrol car was struck sustained minor injuries and was transported to Wilson Hospital for evaluation. He was subsequently treated and released.

19th District Congressman Marc Molinaro announced that Opportunities for Otsego will receive $4.3 million dollars. The funds will be used to support the Head Start program, which provides early childhood education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement services to children from low-income families.

Delaware County District Attorney’s Office announced the conviction of 43 year old Jonathan Sanchez of Meredith for criminal contempt, harassment. Sanchez was accused of contacting a protected party who had an order of protection filed against him, he is accused of violating that order, he will remain incarcerated at the Delaware County Correctional Facility until an opening at a rehabilitation center becomes available, where he will spend a 3 year term of probation supervision.

Binghamton Police Department responded to the report of shots fired & a vehicle fleeing the scene. The vehicle was eventually stopped, with Skylar Pierre Louis and Juan Genao in the vehicle. Drugs, drug paraphernalia and money were also found in the car. Genao was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, Louis was charged with Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, the investigation is continuing and more charges are expected.

The State Department of Labor announced that the number of private sector jobs in New York State increased over the month by 17,400, to 8,061,000 in September, the 1st time the number has been over 8,000,000 since early 2020, prior to the start of the COVID 19 Pandemic. The State’s unemployment rate decreased from 4.7% in August to 4.3% in September 2022.

The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce is again participating in the Annual Toys For Tots Campaign. Any Delaware County Business that is interested in becoming a ?’Toys for Tots’ Collection Site, where the public can drop off new, unwrapped toys, should contact the Chamber soon at 607-746-2281. Governor Hochul announced this week that over $15.5 million is being invested by the State to expand child care access at State University schools. The funding includes $10.8 million to address child care weaknesses across SUNY campuses that have kept parents continuing their education.

Former Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the launch of a new podcast entitled “As a Matter of Fact … with Andrew Cuomo”, with the debut episode available today, with former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci, who served briefly in the Trump White House. Broome County Sheriff’s deputies responded Tuesday to a Town of Fenton residence, where they found 18 year old Gavin Marsh with a stab wound to his upper thigh, following a road rage incident on Upper Front Street. The other driver was identified as 50 year old Michael Seaman, who allegedly followed Marsh to his residence & engaged in a fist sight with Marsh & another teenager, before allegedly stabbing Marsh. Marsh was transported to Wilson Hospital for treatment. The Broome County Sheriff’s Office & the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office located Seaman in South New Berlin, he was taken into custody, he was been charged with Felony Assault and was turned over to Broome County Sheriff’s Office Correctional Staff.
