2 of yesterday’s 6 inductees into the National Baseball hall Of Fame, spent time pitching for the New York Yankees.  Mike Mussina pitched 10 years for Baltimore before coming to New York; he said that he had to be convinced to come to the big city by then Yankee Manager Joe Torre:

Governor Cuomo and Attorney General Letitia James today announced that New York is holding Equifax accountable for the 2017 data breach that exposed the sensitive financial and personal information of millions of Americans, including 8.5 million New Yorkers.   Under the settlement, Equifax will pay a fine of $10 million to the Department of Financial Services & $9.2 million to the Attorney General’s Office as part of $175 million to State Attorney Generals including New York, and Equifax has committed up to $425 million to the consumer restitution fund.

American Red Cross Blood drives are scheduled today in Walton & Oneonta. In Walton, a blood drive is being held from 12:00 Noon until 5:00 PM, at the Watershed Agricultural Council, 44 West Street; In Oneonta, a blood drive is scheduled from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at the Quality Inn on State Highway 23.  Donors of all blood types, especially type O, are urged to make an appointment to donate using the Blood Donor App, at RedCrossBlood.org or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS.

Work is continuing on restoring water to the Hamlet of Mount Upton, according to town of Guilford officials.  A Boil Water Order is in effect, results of the 1st & 2nd required water tests should be available by Wednesday afternoon, the order will remain in effect once the Chenango County Department of Health gives their approval, & that approval will be available at guilfordny.com of at the Town of Guilford Facebook Page.  More information is also available by calling the Guilford Town Clerk’s office at 895-9966.

Supplies are needed & pets are ready for adoption, at the Delaware Valley Humane Society in Sidney, Director Erin Insinga and a few children from Dewitt Drive in Sidney stopped up to visit WCDO this morning, they raised $100 selling lemonade & donated it to the Shelter.  Erin Insinga told WCDO news where the shelter is & how to follow what they are doing:

6 players were inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame Sunday at the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown: 

The inductions started with the induction of 2 starting Pitchers, 1st up was Mike Mussina who played 18 years for the Baltimore Orioles & The New York Yankees, who won 270 games without putting up some of the gaudy statistics that other Hall of Famers did:

The 2nd starting pitcher inducted Sunday was the late Roy Halladay, who died in a small plane crash in November 2017; on the baseball field among his achievements, he authored only the 2nd no hitter in post season baseball, his wife Brandy struggled through the speech, but believed her husband would have said the following in his speech:

This year, 2 Designated Hitters were inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, 1st up was Harold Baines, who was known for his quiet leadership over his lengthy career, he simply followed the advice of his late Father:

Edgar Martinez played his entire career with the Seattle Mariners, he was so prolific as a DH, that the Annual Award is named after him; he said that it was a long wait to get in the Hall Of Fame, but it was worth it:

The last 2 to give their speeches for induction into the Baseball Hall Of Fame were two of the greatest “Closers” in baseball History. 

Lee Smith pitched for a number of teams in his career & when he retired, he had more saves than any one on baseball history, and he said in life & in baseball, it is important to be dependable & reliable:

The final speech of the induction ceremony in Cooperstown Sunday was delivered by New York Yankee Great Mariano Rivera, who joked about always being “Last”  & thanked friends, Family, Teammates & even the President of his home country of Panama for being with him on this big occasion:

Officials estimated that about 55,000 fans attended Sunday’s Hall of fame Inductions in Cooperstown.

State Police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating 27 year old Amanda Lee Chandler of Oneonta.  Chandler was last seen about a week ago in the City of Oneonta and has not had any contact with any family or friends, she is described as 5’5″, approximately 150 pounds, blue eyes, shoulder length brown hair with blonde ends, she was last seen wearing a t-shirt, jeans and black sneakers.  Anyone with information is asked to call State Police at 432-3211.

39 Year Old Gary Nichols of Norwich was arrested officers got a complaint of a trespasser going through a parked vehicle on Plymouth Street. Residents chased the Nichols into a wooded area, Nichols allegedly stabbed one of the people pursuing him, & biting another person. The stabbing victim was hospitalized for 10 wounds to the head and torso. The biting victim was treated and released from the hospital.  Nichols was charged with 1st-degree assault, 3rd-degree assault, criminal possession of a weapon and petty larceny & trespassing.

State police made almost 800 arrests for impaired driving over the holiday season, as part of the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.   48,877 tickets were issued, 783 people that were arrested, there were 643 personal injury crashes, which resulted in 8 fatalities.  Police said that there were over 16,000 tickets for speeding, over 9500 for Distracted Driving, over 1200 were Seatbelt violations 1,223, and 437 were charged with violating the Move Over Law.

State Senator Fred Akshar released the results of his recent online survey regarding  the “Dream Act”, which would allow for the children of undocumented immigrants to apply for state-funded, free college tuition assistance programs for New York State colleges or universities.   Akshar’s survey drew 2,200 total responses, within the 52nd Senate District, 85% of respondents opposed the proposal, 14% supported it, while outside of the 52nd Senate District, respondents opposed the measure 93% to 5% with 1% undecided.  The results in the district were very similar to last year’s survey.    Senator Akshar plans to release a new public survey on a new issue this week.

US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is launching an exploratory committee for a run for the Presidency.  Gillibrand made the announcement last week on the “Late Show with Stephen Colbert”, she has since opened up a campaign office in Troy, she has more than $10.5 million left over from her 2018 re-election campaign that she can use toward a presidential run.

The State Labor Department announced the unemployment rates for local counties today, for the month of December.  Chenango County had 4.4%, Delaware County was 4.2% & Otsego County was at 4.0%, the statewide rate was 3.9%.

Students in Greece New York alerted Police regarding a plot to attack Islamberg in the town of Deposit with explosive devices.  The Greece Police Department arrested 20-year-old Brian Colaneri, 19-year-old Vincent Vetromile of Greece, 18-year-old Andrew Crysel of East Rochester & an unidentified 16 year old following an investigation at Odyssey Academy.  Police seized 23 firearms & 3 homemade bombs, the 3 older suspects were charged with 3 counts of 1st degree criminal possession of a weapon or explosive and one count each of conspiracy, they were being held at the Monroe County Jail on $50,000 bail.

Governor Cuomo signed into law the Reproductive Health Act, which protects women’s reproductive rights by ensuring New Yorkers can make healthcare decisions and medical professionals can provide services without fear of criminal penalty.

The legislation codifies Roe v. Wade into New York State law & cannot be undone by Federal law changes.

Governor Cuomo has directed SUNY and CUNY to assist students with college-related expenses during the prolonged federal shutdown. Payments for tuition and related college expenses will be postponed, and no late fees or penalties will be charged to impacted students. This temporary reprieve will apply to federal employees, dependents of federal employees, and students who are dependent on loans from the federal government that may be delayed.

State Attorney General Letitia James announced that New York has joined with other states and the federal government to reach an agreement with Walgreens, to settle allegations that Walgreens violated the False Claims Act by billing Medicaid at rates higher than its usual and customary rates for certain prescription drugs.  Walgreens will pay New York State 14.5 Million dollars to the states’ Medicaid program.

Edgar Martinez, Mike Mussina, Mariano Rivera and the late Roy Halladay were elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame yesterday on MLB Network, with Hall of Fame President Jeff Idelson announcing the results. The inductees will join the “Today’s Game” Era electees Harold Baines and Lee Smith at the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies on July 21st in Cooperstown.
