State Department of Labor today released preliminary local area unemployment rates for August. The State’s unemployment rate increased from 4.3% in July to 4.7% in August, locally, Delaware County had 3.7% unemployment, Chenango County 3.3% and Otsego County 3.4% in August.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the theft of a 30-foot camper from a Case Hill Road residence in the Town of Franklin. The camper was last seen on August 13th or August 14th and was reported stolen on August 27th, it is described as beige & gray colored, Keystone Ultralite Camper with New Jersey plates TXP17X. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 68 year old Peter Maguire of East Meredith following a trespass investigation in Walton. On August 11th, Deputies responded to a report of a male entering onto and trespassing on several properties in the Village of Walton. After the investigation, the Village of Walton Court issued a criminal summons to Maguire for trespassing, he was arrested September 10th he was released and was ordered to appear in Walton Village Court at a later date..

The State Health Department reminds New Yorkers about the availability of bivalent COVID-19 vaccine boosters from Pfizer, for anyone age 12 or older and from Moderna for those 18 or older. To schedule an appointment for a booster, New Yorkers should contact their local pharmacy, county health department, or healthcare provider; or visit vaccines.gov; the latest COVID 19 stats show a 6.88% positivity rate, the 7-Day rolling average was 6.43%, Patient Hospitalization are down to 2,002, with 215 ICU Patients & 69 on ventilators.

State Police issued a statewide alert for 53 year old Norman Wilson, who is wanted for questioning in a robbery last month in Onondaga County. Wilson is wanted regarding a robbery on 4th in Brewerton, & he is expected to be charged with 1st degree Robbery, unlawful imprisonment, conspiracy & criminal possession of a weapon, Wilson is a white male, 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. The State Department of Health announced updated clinical guidance for use of the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines in children down to 6 months of age. Following the FDA authorization and CDC’S recommendation, Children 6 months to 4 years of age are eligible for 3 shots of the Pfizer vaccine, the initial 2 doses are administered 3 weeks apart, followed by a 3rd dose administered at least 8 weeks later, Children 6 months to 5 years of age are eligible for 2 shots of the Moderna vaccine, given 1 month apart.

The New York State Board on Electric Generation Siting and the Environment held a hearing this morning in Albany, regarding the Application of High Bridge Wind, LLC to Construct a Wind Powered Electric Generating Facility in the Town of Guilford, and the opposition to the project by  the Guilford Coalition of Non-Participating Residents.  The Board denied the Guilford Coalition’s petition for rehearing and request for a stay, and the proceedings will be continuing.

Bassett Healthcare Network announced that COVID-19 vaccines are now available in Primary Care and Pediatric clinics across their health system, including at all regional health centers and School-Based Health Centers, by appointment.  Patients aged 12 and older in New York State are currently eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine. A new Siena Poll released on New Yorkers opinion of Governor Cuomo, shows that 23% said he should resign immediately, 39% say he should serve out his term but not seek re-election, and 33% say he should continue to serve and run for re-election.  35% said they would vote to re-elect Cuomo for another term, 56% would prefer someone else.  Voters approve of Cuomo’s handling of the pandemic, 51-32%, on managing vaccines 66-20%, keeping New Yorkers informed (60-27%), and reopening the state 54 to 33%.

The State Assembly announced that a Committee will soon be issuing Subpoenas’ to come testify, whether Governor Cuomo sexually harassed women, or his response regarding nursing homes deaths during the COVID 19 pandemic response.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a rollover crash This Morning on State Route 17 in Windsor.  The accident occurred around 3:00 this morning, Deputies found the vehicle, but not the driver, the investigation is continuing.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies assisted State Parole Officers recently with locating and arresting 40 year-old William McLean of Hobart on a Parole warrant issued by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.  McLean was found in possession of 6 different controlled substances at the time of his arrest and was charged with 6 counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, he was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to be held as a parole violator pending a future parole revocation hearing.   McLean was issued an appearance ticket to Town of Stamford Court on a later date to answer the drug possession charges.

The State Health Department reported today that almost 72% of adult New Yorkers have received at least 1 COVID 19 Vaccine & 65.1% have completed their vaccine series.   The Statewide 7 day rolling average for Positive COVID tests is .39%; The Southern Tier Counties is slightly higher at .42%.

The Unadilla Valley Central School District will host a 5K run/walk at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, July 17, for 14 year old Cooper Hine, who is a Unadilla Valley 8th Grader, who was seriously injured in an ATV crash in New Berlin recently.  Another fundraising chicken barbecue and Chinese auction will follow at the South New Berlin Fire Department on July 17th.  Hine is hospitalized at the Upstate Medical center in Syracuse.

Chenango County Public Health announced that due to the continued decline in COVID 19 cases, they will release updates once a week.  Currently Chenango County reported 7 active cases, 14 quarantines & no hospitalizations; they have had a total of 35212 cases, 3331 recoveries, & 77 deaths since the pandemic started 15 months ago.

State Police responded Saturday to an ATV crash in the town of Davenport.   35-year-old Raina Andrews of Davenport was operating the vehicle, when it exited the roadway, struck a ditch and she was ejected.   Andrews was transported by LifeNet to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse with serious injuries.  The investigation is on-going.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a Walton resident June 19th on Delaware Street in the Village of Walton.  Deputies observed a speeding vehicle traveling north on Delaware Street, they stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as 28-year old Kassondra  Pierce of Walton,  A routine DMV inquiry revealed that Pierce’s driving privileges and vehicle registration were suspended due to an insurance lapse.  Pierce was charged with unlicensed operation of a vehicle, speeding, operating an uninspected motor vehicle as well as other charges, her vehicle was towed from the scene & she was released to appear in the Village of Walton Court on a later date.
