Recent Congressional candidate Josh Riley of Ithaca announced his campaign to run for Congress again, in what is expected to be the 19th District again. Riley lost to Marc Molinaro, who only just started as the 19th district Congressman in January, after beating Riley in last November’s general election by a thin margin.

Police in Virginia have not yet charged Michael Davis of Richmond Virginia, in connection with the April 5th abduction of Tatiana David in Ithaca. Police in Virginia stopped Michael Davis’s vehicle shortly after he crossed into Virginia, he fled the scene before crashing his vehicle about 35 minutes later, he shot at troopers who returned fire, Davis is still in critical condition in a Virginia hospital. Tatiana David was found deceased outside Davis’s vehicle, the results of the autopsy have not yet been released.

Delaware County District Attorney’s Office announced that 41 year old Jason Dufton of Susquehanna, Pennsylvania pleaded guilty to engaging in a Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in Delaware County Court. Dufton admitted that he engaged in sexual conduct with a child less than 13 years old while he resided in the Town of Hancock, he will be sentenced to 7 years in state prison and 15 years of post-release supervision & he will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison & he must submit a sample of his DNA for the state’s DNA databank. Sentencing will be on May 30th.

The State Department of Corrections announced that disgraced Hollywood movie producer Harvey Weinstein has been moved to the Mohawk Correctional Facility in Rome New York. Weinstein was convicted of rape in 2020, he was sentenced to 23 years in state prison, he was also found guilty of sex crimes in California & was sentenced there to 16 years in prison. New York State Correctional officials moved Weinstein to Mohawk, following a heart procedure shortly after. His lawyers have also said that he suffers from diabetes and vision issues.

It’s been almost a year since 12 year old Aliza Spencer of Binghamton was fatally shot while walking with her father & brother April 21st in Binghamton. Aliza’s Father Fred Spencer held a press conference & asked people to come forward with information into the shooting, A reward of $32,000 is being offered, many area residents have donated to increase the reward, so far there have been no arrests in the case.

State lawmakers passed another budget extension for another week Monday, making sure that state workers get paid. State lawmakers will not be paid themselves until a budget is passed, according to state Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Sticking points in the negotiations include bail reform & the Governor’s plans for more housing statewide. The Legislature would have through April 17 to either pass a budget or extend the process again.

Broome Count District Attorney office reported that William Effner of Walton pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Effner admitted he possessed methamphetamine with the intent to sell in the Town of Nanticoke in December, he will be sentenced to 4 years in state prison and 2 years of post-release supervision in June. Effner was previously convicted of Attempted Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in 2019 in Delaware County.

State Police report that 2 people were arrested after a golf cart from Fire Fox Resort in the town of Nanticoke was located in the town of Maine on July 3rd 2018. An investigation revealed that 23 year old Jordan Preston of the town of Union and 27 year old Amanda McGovern of Whitney Point took the golf cart joy riding before abandoning it in the town of Maine. Preston was located on September 24th and was arrested for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property; McGovern was located February 21st and was also charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, she was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the town of Maine Court on March 13th.

Animal Adventure Park once again held a public vote to name the giraffe; she is 14 years old and will be the mating partner of Tajiri once he matures. Governor Cuomo admitted that he is still trying to get Amazon to reconsider their recent decision to back out of their plans to open a 2nd headquarters in Queens. Cuomo said that he talked to CEO Jeff Bezos & other top officials with the internet giant; he said that so far they have not moved from their most recent decision to back out of the New York City deal after local political pressure.
Governor Cuomo launched a Tax Fairness for the Middle Class Campaign to make the property tax cap permanent and cut middle class taxes again:

Cuomo said that he wants to reduce the rate for incomes up to $150,000, the rate is now 6.85, and this would bring that down to 5.5%. And up to $300,000, the rate is 6.85%; bring that down to 6%.

State Police arrested 32 year old George Odbert of Laurens, for 3 counts of Menacing, Resisting Arrest and Obstructing Governmental Administration. Troopers were dispatched to a report of a physical dispute at a residence in the town of Laurens. Odbert is accused of physically restraining the victim, who sprayed Odbert with pepper spray and left. Odbert became disorderly with the troopers and refused to comply, Odbert told his large dog to attack troopers, He was pepper sprayed by a trooper and ultimately arrested. Odbert was arraigned in the town of Hartwick Court and remanded to the Otsego County Jail.

A new poll from the Siena Research Institute shows that Governor Cuomo’s approval ratings are down to their lowest levels, 44% said that he was doing an excellent or good job, while 56% said that his work to be fair or poor. Despite the low ratings, Cuomo was more popular that the 3 Republicans most often named as potential candidates in the next gubernatorial election, those 3 are Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, state GOP Chairman Ed Cox and former candidate Carl Paladino.

State Troopers arrested 23-year-old Katrina Ellis-Seymoure of Walton for driving while impaired by drugs & driving while intoxicated with a child less than 16 years of age in the vehicle. State police investigated following the report of an erratic driver, they stopped Ellis-Seymoure on County Route 21 in Franklin. Ellis Seymoure is accused of driving while impaired by prescription medication, with her 4-year-old child in the vehicle; she faces court action on December 12th in Franklin town court.

The Chenango county sheriff’s office reports that Stolen items have been recovered following a recent investigation. The larcenies occurred from vehicles between the evening of November 5th and November 6th in the area of State Highway 41, Collyer Road & Cummings Road in the Town of Smithville. State police at Norwich arrested 42 year old Patrick Seeley of Norwich for criminal obstruction of breathing and 2nd degree harassment. The arrest resulted following a dispute on Dan Main Hill Road in Norwich, Seeley was arraigned in the Norwich town court and released on his own recognizance to reappear on November 21st. The judge issued an order of protection for the victim.

State troopers in Oneonta arrested 22-year-old Kelsey Knutsen of Oneonta for DWI with a BAC result of .16%, twice the legal limit. The arrest occurred after troopers initiated a vehicle stop on North Street in Oneonta, Knutsen was released with tickets to appear in the Oneonta town court on December 10th.

Michael Buck of Middlefield was arraigned in Otsego county court on charges of 2nd degree murder, 1st degree assault, criminal use of a firearm and criminal weapons possession. A grand jury indicted Buck earlier this week, in connection with the murder of his father Joseph Buck on September 22nd in the town of Middlefield. Buck was returned to the Otsego county jail on $500,000 cash bail or $1 million dollars bond pending additional court action.

Governor Cuomo was presented with the final report of the New York State Tax Reform and Fairness Commission, which, outlines options to modernize the current tax system. The report suggests modernizing the sales tax while funding low- and middle-income tax relief, modifies the estate tax, reforms the state’s corporate and bank franchise taxes & reviews best practices to make the system more equitable for local governments, businesses and homeowners. Governor Cuomo will consider the Tax Relief Commission’s recommendations for including in the next state budget.

New York’s utility regulating agency has removed a barrier to the spread of charging stations for electric vehicles. The Public Service Commission decided it doesn’t have jurisdiction over publicly available electric vehicle charging stations. The PSC said its decision reduces regulatory barriers, in keeping with the Governor’s initiative to encourage growth in the use of electric vehicles. The Governor wants to see a statewide network of up to 3,000 charging stations over the next five years

The 315 area code in central and northern New York will not be split up any time soon. The state Public Service Commission is postponing the proceedings to determine how to create an additional area code in the 315 region, which includes all or part of 18 northern and central New York counties. Officials thought the 315 area code would run out of numbers in the first quarter of 2015, but now they project that won’t happen until the third quarter of 2016. Regulators say they should be able to re-start the proceeding quickly should the need arise.

Upstate New York homeowners would avoid increases in their flood insurance premiums under legislation introduced in Congress, according to U.S. Senator Charles Schumer. Under the Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability Act, premium increases in National Flood Insurance Program policies would be delayed until the FEMA completes an affordability study. The legislation would apply retroactively to homeowners who recently purchased a home in a flood zone. The rate hikes for those homeowners took effect October 1st. Many homeowners in New York and New Jersey are facing higher online canadian pharmacy flood insurance rates as a result of Super storm Sandy and tropical storms Lee.

The husband of a Pennsylvania woman found dead back in July is now charged with involuntary manslaughter. Scott Kunkle, 29, of Monroe Twp., is charged with aggravated assault and involuntary manslaughter in the death of his wife, 28-year-old Patricia Kunkle, in July after Pennsylvania State Police responded to a domestic dispute at the couple’s home. An autopsy at Lourdes Hospital ruled Patricia’s death a homicide and the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head and internal injuries. Toxicology reports showed the presence of bath salts in Patricia’s system. Kunkle was originally arrested for simple assault and reckless endangerment before those charges were withdrawn Monday morning by the Bradford County District Attorney. He was released on $50,000 unsecured bail.

A two vehicle accident near the town line of Nanticoke and Glen Aubrey has left two dead. 34 year old Brett Berg, of Johnson City was driving his car south on Route 26 when it crossed into the opposite lane while going around a curve and hit an SUV. Berg and Michael Smith, 49, of Homer, were pronounced dead at the scene. Passenger Gail Renninger-Smith, 50, of Homer, was taken to Wilson Memorial Hospital for treatment of her injuries.
