A portion of a railroad bridge in downtown Syracuse has collapsed, causing closures in the area & stopping Central New York Rail Traffic this afternoon. Emergency crews blocked off the area of West Onondaga Street and South Clinton Street after part of a bridge collapsed in Syracuse This afternoon at about 1:00 PM. Syracuse
Mayor Ben Walsh said that nobody was hurt in the accident, some utility lines were brought down. The bridge is owned by the New York, Susquehanna and Western Railway.

Catholic Charities announced that they will hold their Family Color Run Walk on July 21st in Keith Clark par in Sidney. Spokesperson Tracy Martindale said that there is a discount if people sign up to participate by tomorrow:

US Senator Chuck Schumer visited Brewery Ommegang in Cooperstown Tuesday, where he discussed a proposal to cut taxes by 50% for the growing number of small breweries opening up across the state. Schumer was also calling for more funding for the Tobacco Trade & Tax Bureau, who are understaffed with inspectors tasked with reviewing & allowing permits for the growing amount of small breweries.

State DEC Officials announced that 2 men have been charged, for allegedly dumping waste from the power cleaning of the Oneonta High School Track, into the Oneonta creek nearby. John Scott & Victor Doratto of Copeland Coating Company were ticketed for disturbing a protected stream, after local residents reported the change in color of the creek.

The race for the 19th Congressional District is heating up, after the recent Democratic primary. Both republican Incumbent John Faso & Democratic challenger Antonio Delgado appeared in Oneonta this week, Faso toured Custom Electronics in Oneonta Tuesday, Delgado campaigned in Neahwa Park Wednesday during the annual 4th of July Hometown Festival.

Bullthistle Brewing Company of Sherburne will be photographed and videotaped on Monday July 9 for the Brew Central national advertising campaign, which brings together the stories behind craft beer, hard cider, wineries and spirits in Central New York with a website and ad placement in some of the nation’s premier beer magazines. Bullthistle Brewing Company will also be featured in the next installment of the YouTube series, “Stories on Tap”, the filming is scheduled for about 5:00 PM Monday at the Company’s site at 45 South Main Street in Sherburne.

Service arrangements for Trooper Nicholas Clark have been set for Saturday and Sunday. Calling Hours will be held Saturday from 1:00PM to 6:00PM at Alfred University’s Physical Education Center; the Funeral Service will be on Sunday at 11:00 AM at Alfred University’s Physical Education Center. Trooper Clark was fatally shot Monday Morning responding to the report of a suicidal suspect barricaded in his residence, in Steuben County.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies 22 year old arrested Daniel Tompkins of Gilboa for Criminal Mischief, Tampering with Evidence, Assault, Conspiracy, Tompkins allegedly assaulted an individual after having conspired with others and that Tompkins damaged the property of the assaulted victim with damages estimated to be in excess of $1500.00. Tompkins is accused of altering & hiding evidence from this incident. Tompkins was arraigned at the Town of Stamford Court; he was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 in bond. He will re-appear in the Town of Stamford Court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to Delaware Valley Hospital in Walton on June 26th as a result of patients seeking medical treatment following an ATV accident. The Investigation revealed that a 12 year old Walton girl was operating an ATV in the Town of Tompkins when she lost control, left the roadway, traveled down an embankment, overturned and came to a rest in a creek bed. The driver and 2 passengers on the ATV, 42 year old Beth Czerniak and an 8 year old girl, all 3 were treated at Delaware Valley Hospital. Czerniak was later transported to Wilson Hospital, Johnson City, for further treatment of a head injury. Deputies have arrested Beth Czerniak of Walton for 2 counts of endangering the welfare of a child and for numerous other traffic charges, she will appear in Town of Tompkins Court at a later date to answer the charges.

Troopers accused Woodruff of driving while impaired by drugs when he crashed into the rear of a stopped Broome County Transit bus. Woodruff was arraigned in the Town of Chenango court and was remanded to the Broome County jail on $1,000 cash bail or $3,000 property bond pending court action in Town of Chenango on June 28th.

State Police at Sidney are currently investigating a burglary that was reported on June 5th, at the Frog Pond Farms located at 2001 State Route 7, in the Town of Bainbridge. State Police arrested 22 year old Zachary Ruffles of Burlington Flats, for criminal mischief, endangering the welfare of a child and harassment, after troopers responded to dispute complaint in the Town of Burlington. Ruffles is accused of shoving the vicitm, & damagin g clothing and a cell phone, in fornt of a child. Ruffles was arraigned in Town of Hartwick court and was released on his own recognizance, he faces court action on June 13th, an order of protection was issued.

15 years after 9/11, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum will pay tribute to baseball’s role in the healing process with a 6-month exhibit, & a special recognition during Hall of Fame Weekend. On Saturday, June 18, the Museum will cut the ribbon on “Baseball After 9/11” which will feature will be the Mets jersey 2016 Hall of Fame electee Mike Piazza wore on Sept. 21, 2001, in the first game played in New York after 9/11. Additional artifacts include both the “NYPD” hat worn by Mets manager Bobby Valentine and the “FDNY” hat worn by Mets pitcher John Franco on Sept. 21, 2001, as well as a game ticket to the scheduled Sept. 11 game at Yankee Stadium between the Yankees and the Chicago White Sox.

Projects supported by New York’s Industrial Development Agencies (IDAs) produced nearly 36,000 additional jobs in 2014, an increase of 18 percent from the prior year, according to a report issued today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. This is DiNapoli’s ninth annual report examining the performance of the state’s IDAs and how these entities work to attract, retain and expand businesses within their communities. DiNapoli’s report shows the state’s 109 active IDAs provided $1.1 billion in total tax exemptions in 2014. These exemptions were partially offset by $483 million in payments-in-lieu of taxes, leaving the total net exemptions for the year at $632 million – a decrease of $28.5 million, or 4.3 percent, from 2013.

Governor Cuomo announced $16.3 million to fund rail and port improvement projects across New York State. The grants from the Governor’s Passenger and Freight Rail Assistance Program will support projects that strengthen infrastructure vital to the movement of goods throughout the state, as well as support economic development by leveraging an additional $12.8 million in additional public and private investments. In the Southern Tier, the New York, Susquehanna and Western Railway will receive $1.4 million for construction of a state of the art Rail Terminal in Binghamton.

Governor Cuomo announced that $48 million in grants have been awarded for transportation improvements across the State, which will leverage an additional $80 million in federal, state and local funding. The grants are funding projects that will improve transportation infrastructure and support economic development.  Grants are being awarded locally for the Eaton Airport in Norwich for a New maintenance Vehicle, for the Sidney Municipal Airport for Fuel farm upgrades, for New York, Susquehanna & Western Railway Corporation to Relocate interchange between CSX & NYS&W to NYS&W property to improve safety & service on both lines. A $1.1 million federal grant will bring new pavement to Greater Binghamton Airport’s west apron. U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, and Rep. Richard Hanna announced the $1.1 million dollar grant from the federal Department of Transportation. The 168,000-square-foot asphalt apron is separate from the runways and taxiways. There, aircraft load and unload, and are boarded, parked and refueled. The pavement currently shows signs of distress and requires rehabilitation.

New York added 22,700 private-sector jobs in August, but the unemployment rate rose as more people try to re-enter the workforce.   New York’s unemployment rate rose from 7.5 percent in July to 7.6 percent in August. The national rate was 7.3 percent in August. The number of unemployed New Yorkers rose from 717,400 to 729,700 between July and August.

New York electric customers will get a small credit on an upcoming bill, as the state Public Service Commission approved of a 1-time credit to electricity bills of up to $3.00, depending on usage.  Regulators reported that the credit steams from a settlement that included a $110 million dollar civil penalty against constellation Energy commodities Group, on grounds that the power producer manipulated wholesale energy sales in 3 regional markets.  The credit will be passed on as soon as utilities received the funds.

Emergency responders remind resident to have a plan with family members as to where to meet following an emergency, they should also have a disaster kit with 3 days worth of food, a can opener, clothing, medications and hygiene items.  The Red Cross will hold an Emergency Preparedness Fair tomorrow at Binghamton University from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
