The Delaware County District Attorney’s Office announced that 42 year old Melissa Astalos of Sidney appeared in Delaware County Court Monday and was arraigned on a sealed indictment. The 3 Count Indictment was unsealed, Astalos is accused of selling methamphetamine in the Village of Sidney August 3, 2022, also on September 1, 2022 & for possessing methamphetamine, with the intent to sell it, on February 16, 2023, also in the Village of Sidney. After being arraigned, Astalos pleaded not guilty she was released from custody under the supervision of the Delaware County Probation Department. Each charge carries a maximum 10-year sentence is convicted..

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli reported today that only 1 year after the Division of the Budget forecast fiscal stability and no projected budget gaps in Fiscal Year 22-23, the 23-24 plan shows looming gaps up to $36.4 billion through the next 3 fiscal years. DiNapoli said that declining revenue, a weak economic forecast, stock market volatility, and spending increases are among the reasons for the outlying budget gaps, DiNapoli recommends beginning to transfer the $13.2 billion in fund balance designated for “economic uncertainties” and controlled by the Governor’s office be placed into the statutory rainy day reserves on a monthly basis over the course of the fiscal year, which would bring the reserves to $19.5 billion. The Air Quality Alert remains in effect through midnight tonight, according to the National Weather Service & The State DEC. DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos said that the smoke is streaming in on winds from British Columbia in Western Canada, where 25 million acres has burned, many fires continue to burn out of control. The current stream of smoke particulates should leave the region by Wednesday afternoon at the latest, more alerts are expected throughout the summer, daily information is available at airnow.gov.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame Parade of Legends returns to Cooperstown at 6:00 PM Saturday. The parade originates at Lake Street and Chestnut Street, proceeds down Chestnut Street toward Main Street and onto Main Street to the Baseball Hall of Fame. The Parade of Legends will feature more than 4 dozen returning Hall of Famers as well as Class of 2023 members Fred McGriff and Scott Rolen. The Induction Weekend will conclude with the inductions of McGriff and Rolen Sunday at 1:30 at the Clark Sports Center.

37 year old Nikita Kingsbury of South Kortright was arraigned on a sealed indictment in Delaware County Court. The indictment charges accuses Kingsbury of selling methamphetamine in the Village of Sidney on August 11, 2022, she pleaded not guilty and a Court conference is scheduled for August 14th. Kingsbury was then arrested for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with the intent to sell, for allegedly possessing narcotics with intent to sell in Walton on November 9, 2022, she was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on the new charge.

The State Health Department announced that the number of Coronavirus cases statewide went up to 368,284. Hospitalizations dipped below 4000 for the first time in weeks, the number of deaths Thursday was 67, giving the state a death toll from the virus of 23,780.

Broome County Health Department reported that they were up to 546 total coronavirus cases, they now have had 43 deaths, 362 recoveries & 415 patients are being monitored by the Health Department.

Early Thursday morning the Sidney Police Department assisted Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies with the arrest of a Walton woman on a Warrant of Arrest issued by the Delaware County Court for violation of probation.   33 year-old Nikita Kingsbury was charged with violating the terms of her probation imposed in December as a result of her conviction for criminal possession of a controlled substance.  Kingsbury was arrested September 5, 2019, along with several others at for trafficking methamphetamine from 37 Union Street in Sidney.   Sidney Police located and arrested Kingsbury, she was turned over to Sheriff’s Deputies, she was arraigned remotely by Delaware County Court & was ordered held in the Delaware County Correctional Facility without bail pending further court action.

The Chenango County Department of Public Works announced that Effective June 1st, the Brisben and North Norwich Transfer Facilities will both be Open normal hours: Monday 8AM to 12PM, Tuesday through Saturday 8AM to 4PM.  The Landfill in the Town of Pharsalia will be Open normal hours: Monday through Friday from 8AM to 4PM to Residents and Haulers.  Saturday the landfill will be open from 8AM to 12PM for residential garbage only.   More information is available at 337-1792.

Delaware County Public Health received no positive lab reports for COVID-19 Thursday, so far there are 73 Positive Results, 58 have recovered, 6 are isolated at home, 5 are hospitalized, 4 have died & 30 are quarantined.

Chenango County Public updated their Coronavirus numbers Friday, they now have 126 confirmed cases, 103 people are quarantined, 1 person is hospitalized, there have been 5 deaths and 92 recoveries, and they have conducted over 3500 tests.

Green said that the Phase 2 reopening could come in the next few days, as the 7 key criteria that is being measured is still favorable locally, even though some of the numbers have had a slight uptick in the last week.
