Governor Cuomo announced today that the state Department of Financial Services has issued new regulations aimed at protecting the private data of millions of New Yorkers, following last year’s Equifax security breach that exposed the personal information of 148 million Americans, including about 8 million New Yorkers. Cuomo said that the state financial services regulators now have oversight for the first time over credit reporting agencies operating in New York. The Governor stated that in addition to registering with the state, credit reporting firms will have to comply with the state’s cybersecurity standard.

A Chenango County Grand Jury handed down an indictment against 45 year old Philip Cuda of Morris for 1st & 2nd degree Assault. Cuda is accused of causing serious injuries to an unidentified person by stabbing the person in the stomach & back on May 29th in Norwich; resulting in the victim undergoing emergency surgery.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 31 year old Ashlee Calabrese of Walton for 2 counts of Criminal Mischief and 1 count of Endangering the welfare of a child, after deputies investigated a domestic dispute at Calabrese’s residence in the Town of Walton. Calabrese was arraigned in the Town of Walton Court and later release on $1000 cash bail. Calabrese is set to return to the Town of Walton Court on a later date.

120 cars participated in the Great Race, which made a lunch stop at the Northeast Classic car Museum Sunday afternoon. The participants started out the day in Buffalo, stopped in Norwich where crowds of people turned out to see the wide variety of cars, before they department for their next stop in Troy. The State Department of Transportation will be closing State Highway 12 north of Oxford for a 2-week period for the construction of the Fly Meadow Creek bridge, where they will replace the bridge deck over the bridge which is located between County Road 4 and Turner Street. Officials stated that sometime during the period of July 16 and August 31, 2018, the bridge is scheduled to be closed for an approximate 2-week period; traffic will be maintained through an off-site detour using County Road 32, State Highway 220 and County Road 32B.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 39 year old Cristal Cartelli of Pineville, Louisiana on an arrest warrant issued by the Village of Sidney Police Department. Deputies were alerted to Cartelli’s active warrant status and presence within Delaware County, she was turned over to Sidney Police Department, and she was arraigned at the Village of Sidney Court & was remanded to the custody of the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $1500 cash bail or $3000 bond pending future court action.

Wegner was joined at WCDO by long time Sidney Businessman Whit Whitaker & His Wife Rosemary; who shared stories of how Tobacco addiction destroyed the lives of loved ones. Whit said that he smoked for a brief period as a young man and had an interesting story of how he quit.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office investigated a reported assault with a weapon, they arrested 45 year old Philip Cuda was arrested. Deputies reported that the victim sustained injuries from a knife and was transported to Chenango Memorial Hospital then later transported to Wilson. Cuda was arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $10,000.00 cash bail.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Investigators arrested 31 year old Michael Fiske of Johnson City, on an Arrest Warrant issued by the Town of Davenport Court. The charges stem from a Criminal Contempt and Aggravated Family Offense case, Fiske was also charged with Aggravated Harassment from an incident in April. Fiske was arraigned at the Town of Davenport Court and was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear at the Davenport Town Court at a later date.

The State Dec announced that the 6 1/2 foot Boa Constrictor reported lost in Binghamton’s West Side, never left the owners apartment. The owner Brian Kaminsky told authorities that the snake was found behind his kitchen sink. It was reported lost on Tuesday, which prompted an investigation by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

Corey Hobart of Johnson City has died from a self inflicted gunshot wound at a Syracuse Hospital. Hobart was a parolee who had been involved in a standoff with police at a Cortland hotel last week; an autopsy confirmed the self-inflicted gunshot wound as the cause of death. The woman held in the standoff was not injured.

The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce presented the “Outstanding Young Farm Family” award to Ronan and Susan Robinson, owners of Moo Juice Farm in Franklin. The Robinsons milk over 50 Holstein cows each day and their farm has been a Dairy of Distinction since 2001. They received the award last week at a ceremony in South Kortright.
